Golden Vision Optometry

I needed a quick repair on my sunglasses, a screw was missing from the nose piece. Unilocaled for a repair store and this place came up. Swung by the store after work, the wait was minimal and the repair itself took less than 5 minutes. And, the best part! It was a free repair! Omg! So awesome! Would totally recommend this place!

Updated — - Had my first appointment and it went great. The acknowledge my bad experience my first go around and definitely made up for it. Learned a lot of new things and had a great appointment.

My sister and I recently ordered new pairs of glasses here with an outside prescription. Henry helped us out with choosing our frames, ordering, and making adjustments to the frames. He even gave us these stick-​on nose pads to take home, which are great for people like me who need a little help getting the frames to sit right because of a low nose bridge haha. While my sister had no issues whatsoever with her glasses, there was a delay in receiving my glasses for the first time, and then a mix-​up in terms of the type of lens material ordered, so I needed to come back to the office a few more times over a few weeks. I wasn’t really in any hurry to get my glasses though, and Henry and the rest of the staff were all very nice and accommodating. I felt like they went out of their way to address my needs. Great place to get designer frames! :)

Wonderful, professional and extremely nice staff. I had been seeing another eye doctor in the area and wasn’t happy with him so my son recommended I visit Golden Vision. I’m so glad I took his advice!

These guys are the best you can find in Irvine. All the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I’ve come back a few times to fix my broken glasses and they did it without hesitation. You can also make appointments online which is great for those who hate calling in. Everything can be communicated via e-​mail. They even sent me my prescription so I didn’t need to go in to pick it up. A+, I will continue to be a customer here.

I’m not quite sure that why it took about over 2 weeks to waiting for picking up my contact lens while they already messed up the first time. till now, I still didn’t receive the call yet.

I honestly don’t understand why people give 4 or 5 star reviews, maybe they are friends with people who work there. But my experience wasn’t pleasant at all. I think if you are paying cash, they may give you reasonable price, but if you have health or vsp insurance, they are ripping you off. First time I was there, I was there for an eye infection, they screwed up on the insurance billing by sending the wrong social security number for claiming and sent me a bill claiming the insurance is invalid. So, after I looked at their claim form, I told them, the information you put on the insurance claim is wrong. Seriously, the back office never checked the patient information and insurance information before sending a claim? And they never apologized. The second time I was there was for contact lenses exam. My VSP usually covers $ 110 exam plus lenses, which is standard. On the day of the exam, they asked for $ 35, so when I called a week later, someone at the receptionist told me I have $ 75 allowance left to order lenses. Which I told them go ahead. Never heard from them in 3 weeks. After I called 3 weeks later, another lady said there is no order and no is no more allowance left on my insurance to order. So the reality is they charge $ 145 for the eye exam. $ 110 vsp allowance plus the $ 35 I paid. And the billing clerk’s attitude was really bad. I don’t recommend this place to anyone who has VSP insurance. I felt it’s a scam since they never explained the charge when I paid the $ 35 on that first day nor provide any details, just a credit card receipt. So not just they over charged customers, they also give bad attitude when you asked them why you charged this amount. THIS WILL BE MY LAST TIME THERE. DON’T EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!!

I came across Golden Vision while shopping for Christmas presents for my wife and sister-​in-​law. While surfing the internet, I saw Golden Vision’s promotion for 50% off all Ray Bans. I decided to call them to verify. I spoke to Henry, one of the staff who was very informative and helpful throughout the entire ordering process. His sales pitch and marketing strategy to promote Golden Vision’s products were great. The Ray Bans that I wanted were not available in store but Henry special ordered them for me for the 50% off-​deal. The price for the sunglasses were better than local competitors, both retail and individual stores. Henry’s follow-​up was timely. I received both Ray Bans for my wife and sister-​in-​law on time for Christmas. They are happy with their Christmas presents. Golden Vision Optometry/​Henry, you have my 5 stars.

UPDATE. I went back in for another appointment and this time ended up talking with the main owner/​doctor. Nicest lady in the world. You can tell how much she cared about her costumers and her practice. I’m updating this review from 1 start to 5 all thanks to the owner. The staff there though is still unprofessional and unwelcoming. Especially the kid that kept calling me a «Bro» over the phone as I mentioned in my previous review. I also realized that the previous doctor I talked to during my first visit was new and had given me the WRONG prescription to take home. I was a little disappointed to hear that too but the main doctor gave me the right ones and made sure to have me try one different ones and I’m currently happy with what I have.
If I ever go back here I will make sure to only see the main owner/​doctor.

I honestly hate going to doctors because the visits just aren’t fun. I hadn’t been to an optometrist in maybe 2 years. Seeing as Golden Vision has some good reviews and takes my HMO insurance I made my appointment. They were a little booked up but that’s okay I did not mind putting off seeing a doctor.
I’m not sure if it is just my GPS but I had a little bit of a difficult time finding this place because the plaza is a big circle and the store is not too noticeable. The parking was just terrible even on a week day morning.
Upon entering the office seemed like an average office. The waiting area has couches and chairs. The front desk helped check me in. They did see me right on time which is always nice. I was first seen with one of the assistants. He did the routine screenings and tests. My only gripe about this was that when they were doing the tests the tables did not raise of lower you had to lower the chair you were sitting in. I’m normal height and had to hunch down to reach all of the machines. I can’t imagine if someone was taller than me.
The doctor I saw was Dr Yu. She was so friendly and helpful. The exam itself was tough but that is just because eye exams are not fun. She did provide plenty of guidance with picking the best contacts to fit my eyes and that were cost efficient so I could tell she was not just trying to get me to pay more.
I left with a trial pair so I could test them out. I called today to order some contacts but the front office has not been up to par. I called at 11 am and the guy just said he would need to call me back because everyone was busy. I called again a few hours later and spoke to a woman who said she could help me but did not seem to understand my questions or how to make the correct order. So after spending a total of 10 minutes on the phone I did not get my order and I have to wait to speak to Dr Yu.
Overall the doctors seem to be the saving grace of this place. They are the most important part of the practice but the supporting staff could use some training.

I have been going to Golden Vision Optometry for about 8 years now. Dr. Jennie Fan is the best eye doctor around. She’s sweet, caring, and most importantly, HONEST. All of the staff are super helpful and nice as well. They have a great supply of designer frames, and some cheaper options for those without insurance (99 dollar lens and frames w/​polycarbonate).
If I had to pick all over again, it would be this place. They’re not super busy all of the time, and they’re open on weekends, too. This place is great.

My favorite Karen Walker sunnies have been dropped multiple times and sat on several times by me. One day I noticed it was missing a screw and the right arm was starting to extend out. After visiting dumb sales people at sunglasses hut and nordstrom who looked at me like I was crazy, I thought I take it to people who might know better. I still had my doubts when I consulted with Henry thinking what if he breaks the arm off. The next day, not only did I get an education on how glasses are suppose to fit but he found the right screw and made sure my sunnies framed my head perfectly no charge. Be sure to check this place out!

My son broke his frame and Henry helped him find and replaced it for free! Also, Kevin put the lenses into his new frame within an hour, so he can have and wear his eyeglasses ASAP! This place is awesome!

Nice, clean, and organized optometry shop. I came in to get a minor repair done on my sunglasses and they were kind enough to do it free of charge. Great service and friendly people — would highly recommend!

I had broken my favorite glasses and so I took it into this shop for repair for the first time. I was immediately helped at the front desk by Kevin who explained to me in great detail how he would attempt to fix my pretty badly broken glasses step by step, notifying me of any risks of permanent damage in the process. Even during his repair, he constantly came out of the back a number of times to make sure with me what he was going to do was okay. At the end, my glasses were wonderfully back to normal and free of charge! He was extremely helpful, kind, and I will definitely be coming back again. Thank you so much Kevin!

I had ongoing watery eyes that would not go away with allergy pills. One morning, I woke up with thick crust on both eyes and thought it was a time to see an eye doctor. I found Golden Vision Optometry on Unilocal and I’m glad I did. I saw Dr. Yu. She was gentle and thorough. She told me I was
experiencing dry eyes. Who knew?! She explained very well and recommended an eye drop as well as home treatments: warm compress followed by eye lids massage and omega-​3. I followed her recommendation and my eyes got better in 2 days. Thank you Dr. Yu!

So glad i picked this place to get my contacts. the doctor and staff were all very friendly and patient, especially Henry the front desk rep. he was very welcoming and professional. who’d walk you through the process patiently and answer all your questions. very attentive to your needs and eager to help out. Definitely would recommend anyone who wants the job done quick and securely.

I was looking for a new optometrist in the Irvine area and found Golden Vision through Unilocal.I needed a new eyeglass prescription as well as new frames, which I had already picked out at LensCrafters. Didn’t get them there since it was overpriced and LensCrafters didn’t take my insurance plan, VSP.
When I called Golden Vision to schedule an appointment, Henry was very patient with me. I told him exactly what I was looking for and he answered all my questions. He even gave me a run down of my VSP plan and allowances, and also an estimate on my out of pocket expense. I booked an apt immediately and was able to go in that following week.
My eye exam with Dr. Yu was very thorough and professional. I was able to get a 6pm time slot which fits my busy schedule perfectly. After my eye exam, I met with Henry to discuss my Ray Ban frames. Turns out, the specific size that I wanted was on back order so we had to wait. Henry told me that he would keep me informed every step of the way and he did. (Btw, I left that evening well over store hours, but didn’t feel like my apt was rushed in any way even though they were already closed). After two and a half weeks, I was able to go in and find the exact pair of frames I wanted. Henry took down my measurements and put in my custom prescription order. I was pleased to find that the amount I ended up paying matched what Henry estimated during my initial phone call! After another week, I received a call from Henry that my glasses were ready for pickup.
I went in to pick up my glasses and was able to get them adjusted to the correct fitting-​took a couple times but Henry was very willing to help and didn’t make a fuss over my tiny requests. Note: My Ran Ban glasses case came with a tear on the inside of the box and Henry had no problem replacing that right away.
