Keith S Tang, DDS

I would probably go with 2.5 stars, but 3 will be fair enough. I have been seeing Dr Tang for a few years now. The experience was usually ok. And to be fair Dr Tang is nice enough and a good enough dentist. The issue I had was always with one of the hygienists who I grew to not like very much. The main issue was the process for cleaning my teeth. Leaning my all the way back flat and running a steady stream of water in my mouth, while you are cleaning my teeth was very annoying and would cause me to choke on the water and also would cause the water to run out of my mouth and on to my shirt. The 2^nd I last time I was there I finally told her enough and that was not working for me.
I recently went to see Dr Tang and felt like I was confronted by him for a few things. One the issue with the hygienists and the other issue being; he tried to get me to sign a release. Previously, he had recommenced I come in every 3 months vs 6 months for cleaning. My insurance covers 2 cleanings a year. I had asked for a quote for the 2 extra visits, on the last visit for this service, but never got one. So on this past visit he told me I refused this additional service and was seeking some sort of release from me. I did not have my reading glasses since it was a dental appointment, so I could not read the release, and I found his approach very unprofessional. This was also done in front of the nice hygienist. Maybe so he had a witness? i don’t now
I decided to wait a few days to write this review and to see how I felt about the situation and whether or not I would go back. I have decided this is not the place for me and won’t be going back
I will reiterate Dr. Tang is a good enough dentist. His work is fine, but I am not going to the dentist looking for a bunch of drama. I need my teeth cleaned, bi-​annually and the occasional filling. If some other work is warranted so be it. Also in an effort to be fair, there are 2 hygienists there. One is very nice. The other one, not so much.

Dr. Tang is the Best Dentist in Irvine. After my long time Dentist retired I didn’t know who to go to. After checking out many Dentists and going to several for cleaning appointments I found Dr. Tang to be the best. Dr. Tang really cares and will always treat you well. I have referred friends who have been very happy with Dr. Tang. Thank you Dr. Tang for taking such good care of me.

My experience with Dr Tang and his staff has been outstanding. His staff of receptionists and dental assistants have always been extremely professional. As a dentist Dr Tang is extremely knowledgeable. What I appreciate is that I have never felt like I was being up sold or pressured to do anything other than what was needed. During cleanings he does a very thorough examination and monitors any changes from your prior visits. I am very happy with Dr. Tang and his staff and recommend him highly!

Dr. Tang and his staff are courteous, professional, and their customer service is excellent. The practice has all of the newest digital technology for imaging your teeth and each treatment room has a flat screen TV, which is a nice diversion if your getting a lengthy treatment. I am a cash patient, so I have no comment to make on insurance billing, but the prices are lower than what I was paying at my last Dentist in Newport Beach. I highly recommend Dr Tang.

My family has been going to Dr. Tang since 2003 or 2004. My kids are ages 11 and 13 now and had their first dentist visits with Dr. Tang when they were 1 and 3 years old. Never a single tear shed! They love going to the dentist and their teeth are in excellent health because Dr. Tang’s staff got them excited about taking care of their teeth from the time they were toddlers. They still love watching TV during their visit and going to the treasure chest after their visit (even though they’re a little old for the treasure chest, but Dr. Tang’s staff doesn’t mind). I love that they have no negative feelings about getting their teeth cleaned, which is great because I grew up dreading the dentist.
Dr. Tang’s staff and dental assistants are awesome. This week, I went in to have two bridges replaced. Dr. Tang had started advising me about 5 years ago to have them replaced because I’ve had them in since 1991 and normally they would last only 15 years! He advised me that they would eventually start deteriorating to the point that they would do some damage to my dental health. I kept avoiding it because bridge work is expensive. Dr. Tang NEVER pressured me; he was patient for 5 years! And, earlier this year, he just had a really kind, but firm, talk with me and told me all the problems that had set in, and that I couldn’t wait any longer.
His office financial assistant Jasmine emailed me the pre-​authorized insurance coverage and my out-​of-​pocket expenses and then gave me all the different financial options to pay for it. I knew everything ahead of time and there were no financial surprises. So, we put a plan in place and Dr. Tang started the work this past week. I was in his office for 8 hours this week to work on the 6 teeth that were affected. I got to bring a couple of DVDs to watch and even watched the US Men’s soccer team play Belgium while sitting in the chair.
If you’ve never met Dr. Tang before — what a perfectionist! A perfect quality for a dentist. He wants everything done perfect, the prep work, the pain management, the shading, the coloring, the molds, the x-​rays, the counseling with the lab guys, making sure over and over that his dental assistants know what he’s doing and what they’re supposed to be doing all throughout the visit. If you want someone to be extremely thorough, go to Dr. Tang.
He also cares about you the patient and how you’re feeling. He routinely asks you questions about comfort level, pain, and gets your opinion on the cosmetic part of the work. Every time I’ve had a filling or something other than a standard cleaning appointment, I get a call from his staff the next day asking how I’m doing.
My family loves our dentist, Dr. Tang.

Dr. Tang and his stuff are professional, friendly and he is my dentist from now on and I strongly recommend everyone to see him :)

I think Dr. Tang is an excellent dentist! I’ve been going to Dr Tang for a couple years now. I stumbled upon his office when I had a really bad toothache that didn’t allow me to sleep. I called his office and explained my situation and immediately I got the soonest appointment. I hadn’t gone to the dentist in several years because I didn’t have dental insurance so there was a lot of work that needed to be done. Needless to say, I became very acquainted with Dr Tang and his office.
Dr Tang is very personable. He’s sensitive to the patients’ needs and has a light hand so that when he’s sticking needles in your gums, it’s not as bad. He’s detailed in his work also. Another thing that stands out about Dr. Tang is that he understands that you also his customer and that he wants you to leave satisfied. Growing up, I always just took doctors’ words as is and never questioned them. I didn’t realize that you are not only a patient, but a customer as well and that if you are not satisfied, you can always just seek another dentist. When Dr Tang was replacing a crown, he asked for my opinion and asked if I was satisfied with the crown before he permanently cemented it in because if I wasn’t, he’d send it back to the lab. I never knew that was an option! My previous dentists gave me the «you’re getting what I give you» speech before when I questioned the work of another crown I was getting.
Dr Tang’s front and back office staff is also great. They are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this office!

My boss recently found Dr. Tang and had many nice things to say about him, so since I was looking to change dentists, I thought I would go ahead and see for myself just how fantastic Dr. Tang is.
He was indeed very thorough and explained everything to me (even showing me pictures of my teeth). The front office staff, as well as his assistant, were also friendly and attentive.
I am hopeful that Dr. Tang will prove to be a long-​term dentist for me.
Thanks so much for the cleaning… and I will be flossing two times a day from now on!

Haven’t even seen the dentist yet and the receptionist was snappy and rude. Awful customer service!

I really hope that I can leave a good review for this office and follow Dr. Tang for the time I am in irvine since this office is very close to my home. However, I have to look for another dentist in the area after visiting the office.
What I like: location, office is pretty new, tools are new and Dr. Tang is nice
What I do not like: they are like sales people, push you to buy professional brush which they sell for $ 100 but you can get it for $ 25 from amzon when there is deal, rather than filling my tooth first but recommend the deep cleaning, also the assitant said the insurance company will charge for X-​ray, however, as the gift to my first visit, Dr. Tang will cover the cost and I do not need to pay. ??? I never get charged by any dentist I went to for regular cleaning and X-​ray. It became a favor in this office? I do not feel comfortable about how they treat patients.

I recently visited Dr. Tang for the first time after leaving my previous dentist of 10+ years. Dr. Tang had solid reviews here on Unilocal,so I decided to give him a chance and am glad I did.
First, it was easy to make an appointment. The receptionist with whom I spoke was friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging. She emailed me the patient paperwork in advance so I could complete it at my convenience prior to the appointment.
Secondly, Dr. Tang’s facilities were clean, bright, and conveniently located. I immediately felt comfortable when I walked into the office for the first time. The staff was friendly and welcoming and I felt right at home.
Finally, Dr. Tang himself was a consummate professional: knowledgeable, engaging, and not at all hurried. Over the past decade, I’d grown accustomed to a Fullerton-​based dentist whom I saw very rarely; on most visits I saw only the hygienist for a cleaning and sometimes updated x-​rays. The dentist himself very rarely spent any time with me.
Dr. Tang was completely different. He spent a significant amount of time with me personally, discussing concerns I had with sensitivity to cold, teeth grinding, and brushing technique. He has great TV screens and a fully stocked library of movies you can select if you need an in-​depth procedure.
It was an incredibly positive experience and I only wish I’d begun visiting Dr. Tang’s office years ago.
UPDATE FROM 12/​17/​2013: Just went in yesterday for a six-​month cleaning. Dr. Tang and his team were as friendly and professional as ever. Dr. Tang performed the cleaning himself.
I believe a good dentist is worth their weight in gold. Dr. Tang is not only an excellent dentist, he’s a friendly, compassionate professional who really knows how to relate to his patients and put them at ease. The good doctor also really knows his movies and will readily talk with you about any of the dozens of movies in his in-​office library.
As long as I work in the Irvine area, I’ll be seeing Dr. Tang at least twice annually.

I have been going to Dr. Tang for over 3 years now and I wanted to give back to his practice by leaving a review. From the beginning, Dr. Tang has always been very friendly and accommodated me in all aspects. I think he actually remembers what we talk about during the last appointment and continue the conversation (6 months later). This shows he really tries to know his patients. Another example is that I get plenty of rinse breaks, which I LOVE. I hate when dentists go on and on with their cleaning and leave the nasty gunk in your mouth. I feel free to rinse as many times as I want! Yay!
Furthermore, the office does a great job at reminding me of my upcoming appointment with an email a month in advance and then another message a couple days before. These settings can be changed on their online program, which I have to admit can be a little easier to navigate. But if you are getting these messages, you should be savvy enough to handle it.
However, I wanted to note sometimes the front desk receptionist was not all that friendly in the beginning. She has gotten better now, but she was very curt and seemed annoyed when I first started going to Dr. Tang. I stuck with him and he has been nothing but honest and helpful in teaching me about my dental hygiene.

Dr Tang is an amazing dentist. He is very friendly and very professional. He does a great job of explaining to me what is going on and if anything needs to be done. He has a great deal of integrity and I have complete confidence in his work.
His office has all of the latest technology which make visits to his office very efficient.
His staff is friendly and very helpful.
Dr Tang is by far the best dentist I have ever been to!

Unilocal failed me.
My in office experience was okay, however it was only afterwards that I regretted visiting this office.
The Billing:
There was an issue with my insurance paying up (no fault of my own), so I ended up having to deal with Susanne and my insurance company. It was a mistake on behalf of my insurance company, but she completely made me feel as though it was my fault. She represents the office as having little customer service skills, no problem solving skills, and a complete lack of understanding.
Basically, I felt as though I was some kind of middle man between her and my insurance. (I have no time for this!) Susanne failed to hear me out even though I was trying to help myself AS WELL as help her resolve the problem.
After a few times of playing messenger and after being yelled at by this lady, I finally made my last call to my insurance and they said they had sent the check (thank god!). So, I called Susanne back and she rudely replied, «Did you get the check number?»
I think to myself, «Umm NOOO, what the hell? This is not my job! How am I supposed to know what you want me to ask the insurance company? Why didn’t YOU call them in the first place!»
Few months pass by and I receive a letter in the mail from the dental office stating that they will no longer take my insurance.
whoop-​dee-​doo. –_​_​– where do I unsubscribe to letters/​texts/​phone calls.
I had a horrible experience with my insurance and this office. Luckily for me, I have switched insurance policies and dentists :) .
Suggestion: Customer Service 101
Problems and mistakes happen, BUT it is HOW and the manner in which the employee responds to fix those problems, that can either impress or displease the customer. Your grade F.
P.S Making up excuses is even worse.

I came here a bit over a year ago. My experience initially left me quite displeased, but upon further reflection, it was not as horrible as it could have been. I waited almost a year to write a review because I wanted to see whether Dr. Tang was right about certain things. My displeasure, however, was mostly directed not at him, but at the billing staff, or whoever it was who gave me estimates on fillings.
The good:
–Dr. Tang scared me so much (by telling me I needed at least 2, and probably 4 fillings – I only had 1 filling at the time, ever) that I now floss every day! Thanks Dr!
–First visits are free!
–The front desk receptionist is nice
The bad:
–I got a second look at a different dental office shortly after my visit to Dr. Tang’s. Their x-​rays weren’t of great quality, I found out. Also even a year later, I only needed 1 filling, not 4.
–Dr. Tang confidently proclaimed that my wisdom tooth would grow out such that it would hit my soft tissue on my lower jaw (because there is no opposing tooth) and hurt it. Over a year later – I feel no pain at all.
–This is what upset me the most. The lady who called me about billing was very rude to me. When I asked her the quote for 2 fillings, she refused to give me an estimate, even though Dr. Tang had told me that it was only a possibility that they would do 4 fillings. She claimed that I needed 4 fillings for sure. She gave me the whopping figure of $ 950 for 4 fillings. I also asked her if they took Delta Dental, and she said they did, and that the prices would go down to $ 750 after insurance, and when would I like to come in? When I hesitated and expressed that the cost was difficult for me, she told me that I could pay in installments. She acted annoyed at me when I asked for details about what kind of fillings they were, and became even more annoyed when I did not want to schedule an appointment right away. Her irritation only grew when I tried to ask her how soon I needed to get the fillings. Overall her tone was extremely condescending.
Since I was unfamiliar with fillings (I only got one filling before, as a minor), and was absolutely astonished at the price of the fillings, I promptly did my research, which I really should have done before, and found out during a call to another dental office that fillings should by no means cost that much when one has insurance. They did technically «take» Delta Dental but Tang is not a Delta Dental dentist. That was my mistake for sure, though I wish they had been so kind as to inform me of this rather than try to get me to book an appointment ASAP and tell me I can pay installments instead since I do not have much money. Maybe that is too much to ask from a dental office, which is just a business after all.
In the end, I went somewhere else (message me for where!) for a free 2^nd look and booked an appointment for one white composite filling that cost me well under $ 100. I saved, or didn’t lose $ 700, no thanks to Dr. Tang’s office…

I’ve been going to Keith for at least the last ten years. At first, we had some work to do to get my teeth into good shape. For the past five years or so, it has been nothing but routine check ups and cleaning — no more dental work required. I’d say that is what a good dentist does. He takes care of my whole family in a similar fashion. I highly recommend Dr. Tang.

Dr. Tang is very gentle when given you a shot before his does a cavity. Love going to get my check ups.

Was lucky enough to get in the same day as I called, due to a cancellation. (Wait — can one say that they were LUCKY to get to see the dentist???)
Dr. Tang and his staff were witty, fun, informative, and super-​helpful. Sad to say, I’ll be back to see them all way too soon. :-(

Dr. Tang is my hero.
One Wednesday evening, I was enjoying an ice cream cone when I bit something rather hard… And realized I chipped my tooth again*. I go to UC Irvine but am from Northern California, so I don’t have a dentist down here. I obviously panicked; I mean, come on, what 19 year old girl wants to walk around with a chipped front tooth.
I called several places from Unilocal to see if they do emergency dental work and the angel from this office answered my prayers and said to come on over. This was at 8:00pm and I thanked my lucky stars for the office being open so late.
I came in, filled out the new patient paperwork, and was called back in about 5 minutes. Dr. Tang looked at my tooth, recommended what he would do, and then gave me my options. He was very calming, friendly, and I really liked the TV he uses to show you what’s going on in your mouth. As he fixed my chipped tooth, he let me watch Toy Story 3 and made sure I was comfortable.
I would recommend Dr. Tang to all my friends who live in the Irvine area!
*I chipped my front tooth 2 years ago, and it was glued back on by another dentist. I’m guessing the glue weakened and just happened to break while I was eating an ice cream cone.

I hardly ever write reviews for people in the dental/​medical field (since these reviews can be very harmful and unfair for a person’s business), but since I came across Dr. Tang’s review on Unilocal,I might as well add my own objective opinion about his dental practice and my experiences there.
I came to Dr. Tang’s office just for a general teeth cleaning, and he was highly recommended to me by a friend of mine. I didn’t expect much since I figured he was just another dentist in private practice and would run me through the mill like any other patient.
Surprisingly enough, I had an excellent experience with my visits there and the experiences surpassed my expectations so much that here I am writing a Unilocal review about a dentist in Irvine!
Marissa, the front desk/​secretary is awesome. She called me a few days before to confirm the appointment. She’s super energetic and friendly and for me, she is such a great presence at the front desk because it calms my fears about what is to come at the actual teeth cleaning.
The hygienist came in and was also very friendly. I don’t remember her name, but she has brown hair and brown eyes and is always smiling. I liked how she prepped me for the actual cleaning.
Then, Dr. Tang:
The one thing I liked about Dr. Tang is that he does his OWN cleaning and assessment of your teeth in the office. I’ve been to many dentists in the past and they have the dental hygienist do 95% of the work and then the dentist comes in at the very last part and talks to you for ~ 1 min and then he’s off to the next patient. This was not the case with Dr. Tang. He does everything himself and is very meticulous. He explained the «numbers”/gum recession/​bone loss bit with diagrams and he doesn’t make you feel like an idiot about what’s going to happen. I felt like he took his time and explained everything which was going to happen.
The office is relatively high-​tech. Each station has a flat screen TV so you can see magnified images of your teeth, bite and even cavities. It’s nice to have a dentist who tells you that you have a cavity and then shows you a picture of it, so you know that he’s not some con artist out to make money off of you.
I didn’t really have a bad experience with the practice — but perhaps the only down point was the financial part — in which the lady at the front is supposed to explain the financial breakdown and if insurance will cover your procedure. That didn’t really happen. I was handed a piece of paper with X’s for my signature and I didn’t really get a good explanation of what I was signing. Plus, her back was to me the whole time. Perhaps it was an «off day» for her, but in private practice, EVERY experience counts!
But overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend Dr. Tang to my friends and family.
