History

Established in 2006.

My Private Professor’s tutors share a passion for teaching and are available to help students with all of their academic needs.

MPP’s tutors have impressive academic and educational backgrounds. When you work with a MPP tutor, you work with a tutor who possesses a thorough mastery of the subject matter that they are teaching.

MPP tutors also have extensive tutoring or teaching experience with a history of satisfied former clients. Moreover, our tutors possess qualities that are not easily measured on standardized exams: patience, dedication, persistence, and enthusiasm — qualities that make our tutors truly exceptional.

My Private Professor’s amazing tutors are available to tutor clients in K-​12 math, language arts, science, and other subjects, help students prepare for standardized exams, such as the SAT, LSAT, GMAT, GRE, CBEST, and ASVAB, and assist clients in preparing and revising essays, personal statements, resumes, and college and graduate school applications.

Sona S.

Business Owner

Sona founded My Private Professor to fulfill the growing need for individualized and affordable tutoring for all grades and subjects.

Sona passed every AP exam that she took, and earned a top score on the SAT through self-​study. She graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA, and was accepted into every college to which she applied, including Stanford.

Sona attended UCLA on scholarship, and graduated with a 3.9 GPA, earning distinctions of summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, College Honors, and Dean’s Honor list. She was a tutor and an undergraduate Teaching Assistant in two college classes.

At UC Berkeley’s School of Law (Boalt Hall), Sona tutored at a community organization that promoted self-​sufficiency. After graduating from law school, she practiced civil litigation for a number of years and then returned to her passion for teaching and education.

Due to a growing demand, Sona created My Private Professor, which serves the tutoring needs of clients throughout Southern California.

My son, a high school senior, used My Private Professor to prepare for the ACT exam and later for help with the all important college applications and essays required by the universities. Ashlynn is very professional, friendly, knowledgable, and helpful in working with my son on a weekly basis for many months. Sona, the owner is always very supportive and friendly. Very easy to work with. Most of all, they really have the best interest of your student in my mind. I would not hesitate using them again in the future, if needed.

I cannot say enough good things about My Private Professor, as a company, and the quality of tutors they provide. We have been with the company for a year now, and it has been a very pleasant experience, both with the administrative part of the company and with the tutors. The admin ladies I have been in communications with have been extremely professional and truly care about what our kids need, and meeting those needs. The caliber of tutors they hire is very high and we have seen much improvement in our kids’ academics since we started using this company. We are so impressed with My Private Professor! My son needed help with his Mandarin class. I contacted MPP on a Thursday and by Sunday a wonderful tutor was in my home helping to teach my son. They are quick, professional and I appreciated the follow up to make sure the placement of the tutor worked out well for my son. I’m so thankful I called MPP and will continue to use their services for all future tutoring needs!

My children are very happy with the tutors not just because of the help they get with their schoolwork or during tests but because the ease with which the tutors make then understand concepts. Let me start by saying that if I could give My Private Professor 6 stars, I would! My daughter and I met Sona for the first time and after the very first session my daughter was raving about how Sona is such an INCREDIBLE teacher. Not only is she incredibly intelligent, but she is also easy to understand and talk to, unlike many tutors we had previously tried. Because of my daughter and her busy schedule, Sona was very very accomadating and was willing to come to my workplace! As well as in person sesssions, she also does Skype which is very useful, once again, due to busy schedules. Sona goes above and beyond the expectations of a «tutor». She is very personal with her students and caring. She went as far as coming to my daughter’s school and speak with her councelor about next year’s classes and such. Sona has a great way of motivating and my daughter is always looking forward to her next session (which is very astounding because my daughter NEVER wants to study). When first studying for the SAT my daughter was struggling a lot, but now with Sona’s help and assistance, she has been getting scores MUCH higher than we expected. Not only was Sona helpful with SAT, she forwarded another tutor to us since my daughter wanted extra help in Pre-​Calculus. Both my daughter and I were extremely hesitant because we’ve been with Sona and thought everyone else would not be comparable. BUT, Sona, once again, pleases with a knowledgeable tutor that we still use. All in all, our experience with My Private Professor has been terrfic and we will be using this company for a long time! I recommend to everyone! There is no one else as caring and intelligent as My Private Professor.

I was looking for a tutor for my daughter to help with SAT and ACT testing for my daughter. My daughter is extremely busy as she is a ballet dancer and dances 4 to 5 hours a day and taking a full load of academic classes. I needed to find someone who could prepare my daughter for her college exams but could be flexible with her busy schedule. I picked My Private Professor’s SAT Tutor because of her qualifications and ability to tutor beyond just math and science and she is wonderful. She has been perfect for our needs, my daughter gets individualized care and she is willing to meet in person or via Skype which creates a low stress environment in a stressful schedule. We have recommended My Private Professor to our friends who are equally as happy as we are. Sona with My Private Professor has helped me tremendously with studying for the LSAT. She has catered to my weaknesses and cultivated growth where I struggle the most. She is patient and has a unique method of explaining and giving examples to the toughest problems. In addition, she gives ‘homework’ that directly related to what was discussed each session. I’ve only had a few sessions with her so far but I am already seeing a dramatic improvement with my practice test scores. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a LSAT tutor!
