One Stop Center

As I walked into the building I noticed a lady by the name of Ana, she doesn’t bother to greet me because she has her mouth full of food. Is that professional? I didn’t say anything so I asked her a few questions in regards to their services. Ana was not knowledgeable, poor speaking skills and she was even talking to me with her mouth full. She had an atttitide but I still kept calm. She then left to find out an answer to my question that she should know in my opinion. At that moment another young lady, Elbia, approached me and asked if I have been helped, I said yes but she insisted to help. Now this lady knew exactly what I wanted and she was very knowledgeable with the services there. Elbia was awesome and because of her I would definitely come back, she was helpful, super sweet and very respectful, unlike Ana who had no manners and no passion for her job. Please provide coaching for Ana to be as stellar as Elbia with customer service skills!

I used to go to this One Stop location on a regular basis and was very happy with the services but the last 2 recent visits weren’t as pleasant as the previous ones so I thought I’d post an updated review.
First of all, they have new faces in the front office who weren’t as friendly as the ones before… I, along with another girl, stood in front of two staff members and we were waiting to get a pass to use the computers. After several minutes of being ignored. one of them finally looked at us and asked the other person to help us. Without any apology for ignoring us, he asked for our driver’s license in an unfriendly manner as though we were disturbing him from whatever it was he was reading…
Secondly, I called and left a message with my career counselor to see if I can schedule an appt with her later that day or the day after, just to read my resume and make recommendations. I never got a return phone call from her even up to now, 2 weeks later. I know she was at the office because I saw her the day after I called.
This type of establishment is very useful and necessary for so many people that are unemployed and looking for jobs or learn some skills such as resume writing, computer programs, etc., and free use of computers, copy and fax machines, etc but I wish they’d hire people who are kind, compassionate and patient esp because they’re dealing with people who are already down because they don’t have jobs…

I signed up with them a couple of years ago and have used them off and on since. I’ve used them when I’ve been both employed and unemployed. They offer a lot of good resources that can be very helpful. I took a typing test there so I could put my WPM on my resume and I went to one of their workshops which was quite helpful. Plus everything is free!
Why only three stars?
While they do offer quite a few resources that are helpful, most of the people I’ve dealt with both at the office and over the phone are not very helpful or nice. Just recently I called and asked if they offer career aptitude testing (they do) and the lady acted like it was such an inconvenience that I was calling and seemed to want to get me off the phone as quickly as possible. Plus, when I asked about what other places in Orange Co. do career aptitude testing (to do research and explore my options), she answered «I don’t know» in a sort of rude and I don’t care kind of way. Wouldn’t a place like this know what places in OC offer aptitude testing or couldn’t they at least point me in the right direction? You work in the job finding field .you need to know about other job finding, aptitude testing services out there. It’s called being informed and knowing what is happening in the industry that you work in!
I don’t expect the red carpet, VIP treatment here, but I do want the employees to be helpful and friendly. Why? Because it’s common courtesy and it’s professional! When I first signed up with them, I asked if their job board was accessible from home (so I could look up jobs at home or on my laptop at Starbucks or wherever)? They said it wasn’t and that they believe it is more beneficial for people to come in and apply at the one stop location. Well fair enough. However, when I did go in to apply for jobs, it was no different to applying for jobs online at home. Plus, the employees were not helpful and they acted like I was bothering them when I asked one simple question. I know I’m not the only one there and I don’t expect them to drop everything for me, but isn’t answering you customer’s questions part of your job description?
This place needs to practice what they preach and teach their employees how to be helpful, professional, friendly, informed, and how to properly do the job that they are being paid to do. Sometimes when I’ve called, employees can’t even answer my question, they just say «I don’t know» or «I have no idea.» Or they just give a really vague answer or just connect me to someone who also has no idea or just doesn’t want to be helpful. Well, if you don’t want/can’t answer my questions why are you working here? What is the point of my even coming here then?
Overall, like I said before this place does have good resources that can really help a lot of people. However if you are unemployed, this shouldn’t be the only place that you utilize for your job search, you should also be applying to places on your own and using other temp agencies, etc. Their workshops can be helpful, but some of teach you how to act in/​dress for an interview. That stuff is common sense and I would assume/​hope that most job seekers know that already. I do think this place can be really helpful, but you’ll get out of it what you put into it. Also, how helpful this place will be to people really depends on the needs and skills of each individual.
P. S. Not all of the employees at One Stop are rude, just some of them.

Although it’s free and available to the community, I find myself in a guinea pig wheel getting nowhere with this organization. They came to my school, offering all this assistance: grocery reimbursement, rental reimbursement, stipends for veterans, reimbursement for school supplies, etc. I got none of it. They were in a hurry to have me sign up, as if they needed to make a quota. As soon as I did, I was shown the door. They didn’t do anything! I have been there 6 times, dropping off documents, sending multiple emails, and phone calls, and if they’re returned all I get is the runaround. After going to the veterans section (I’m a veteran), they denied ever having any stipends or assistance — just workshops on how to write a resume. If you have half a brain, anyone can write a decent resume. You can Google «resume» and find examples for any job description. There are workshops there on how to interview, ie: what to say, wear, etc., but this is common sense! Most of what they have is lip service, but no tangible assistance. I have wasted so much gas going there.
What I do like is that they have scanners so you can scan documents and send to prospective employers. I can’t afford ink anymore so I use their printers for job related stuff. I am in an internship, but this I got on my own, One-​Stop had nothing to do with it. In fact, I looked at their job postings, and most are for very low-​waged jobs. I think it’s fine if you need something for the meantime, but if you are looking for a real career save your time and energy and finish college.

Oh my gosh there are so many people here!!! It was sort of chaotic with hundreds of people asking questions left & right, and just a whole bunch of young, old or inexperienced, experienced, unemployed men and women!!! Everyone is DESPERATELY trying to find a job there!
The staff are SUPER FRIENDLY & PATIENT!!! They truly have a heart to serve and help the people out. They are faith-​based and really provide as much resources to all people in order to help them find a job.
Everything is FREE!!! how can you go wrong with that? You can FREELY use their computers, Internet, Copy/​Fax machine, Telephones, and take advantage of the workshops for resume writing tips, interviewing tips, Linkedin, Internet, Microsoft Word training, and so much more!
Also, there’s a job posting board for various categories like: Business, Management, Labor, Auto, Sales, Miscellaneous, etc.
My recommendation if you’ve never been here or haven’t registered yet, is to:
ATTEND THE 8:30 ORIENTATION, every Mon~Thursday. That will be the first step to learning about the One-​Stop Center and understanding all of the resources they offer.
*REMEMBER to bring 2 forms of ID: Driver’s License and Passport or Social Security Card. They’ll issue an ID card with your name, picture, and member ID.

A great place that helps you with your job search. They have a plethora of services (help your with resume, cover letter and interviewing techniques, workshop classes, networking groups, jobs on the job board, etc. etc.). If you’re lucky, you can join Experience Unlimited.
The staff are all friendly and helpful.
P. S. I believe there is another location in Westminster.

It used to be meaner but now they are so very helpful to me! It’s really nice. I know the lady in the front desk by name. The workshops are sort of boring sometimes and they are very strict about late comers but rightfully so because they want you to be punctual like you would be in a job interview or at work (especially the first couple months at your job). This is a sign that you are reliable and prompt (you can be late a maximum of five minutes to the workshops, after that, they lock the door.) There are MANY workshops/​seminars to choose from. Just choose the one that coordinates with what you want or need. The teachers there are knowledgable but I’ve only met two and attended two workshops so far so I cannot really get them an accurate rating.
The computer rooms are really nice because they let you use the computer whenever you want and the paper you are printing from is free so you NEVER have to use your own. How awesome is that?!
The other thing I like about this is that it’s very close to my house. The temperature of the building and the room (s) are just right. Not so cold not so hot. And there’s ALWAYS alot of take home flyers for your needs.
You can get help from them just don’t be shy. so if you have any questions don’t be afraid to call upon them with your inquiries. As far as the Restrooms, they are very clean and always stocked with toiletries.
The Job Board/​Walls are almost always STOCKED with job leads and ads and there are MANY positive resources available to you so I don’t know of anyone who would really not want to take advantage of this place. Seriously, you’d have to be living in a rock or not want a job that badly if you pass this place up during your job search/​hunt.
You could even get help with your RESUME here!

Ahhhh. The joys of being unemployed…
The One Stop Center is a place for unemployed folks to come in and look for jobs, brush up on computer skills, get résumé help and interview tips. Basically, an unemployment office.
While I think their services can be useful to many including myself, this place is depressing. Not so much because of the people, but because of what this place represents: many unemployed folks and an economic mess. What really made me sad was when I saw posters on the walls announcing free food giveaways. It made me realize how lucky I am to not be in that position of depending on free groceries to feed my family.
That being said, my experiences here have been positive. The workers seem overwhelmed, but they are usually pleasant and helpful, making my visits here a lot more tolerable. The seminars they offer are OK, though I’ve only attended one. It seems as though they fill up pretty quickly, so it’s probably best to sign up way in advance.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that is currently unemployed. Obviously you’ll get out of it what you contribute. Times are tough right now and getting a decent job is even tougher. There’s a lot more competition and even fewer jobs. Spending some unemployed time here trying to find ways to improve is much better than time spent at home waiting for a job to come along.

If you are like the 10%+ that are currently unemployed you may or may have not heard of the OC One Stop locations. They offer services such as resume critique, MS classes (if you are lucky to get into any) and other classes such as networking, negotiation etc.
I recently came to this location to take a class with a friend and expected to register on the same day. I was unable to take the class because you need to show a SS card or passport and ID to take any classes or use their services. I understand that a policy is a policy.
Why is it that every govt organization seems to have the same type of people — disorganized, confused and unhappy workers that give you half ass answers to your questions, managers that don’t know their policies even though they are stated in the flyers they give you, a security guard walking around asking people why are you sitting there (um sitting).
I don’t mean to sound bitter or angry I just wish these people that had jobs knew how to do their jobs! I’m going back next week to take a class, I heard their teachers are great. Its also a little difficult to rate this organization since there isn’t much to compare it to. I figure I would give it three stars since its free.
