SoCal 5k Color Run

I’ve done many races over the past two years — from 5k’s to 10k’s to Half Marathon’s, but this has by far been my favorite race and it was only a 5k! Who would have thought that running a 5k while getting covered in color would be so fun?!
The object of this race was to get as colorful as possible. You are required to dress in a white shirt and older pants and shoes for the race (I ended up throwing my shoes away since they were ruined by the end of the race by color — oh well, they were 2+ years old anyway). At each Kilameter during the race, you would run through what they dubbed a «Color Station» where volunteers would throw color on you as you went through. At the end, I was covered in color and loving every minute of it! So much fun that I was smiling the WHOLE 3.1 miles.
Since this was more of a fun race, it is not timed, so don’t come in expecting to get your best 5k time. Just come in, have fun and get a work out in as well! Funny thing is, my friend and I ended up finishing in about 30 minutes when we weren’t expecting to finish that fast since we walked through all the color stations — guess we were just that excited for the race! (We thought we’d finish in about 40 minutes).
Only downside is that this race fills up FAST, so register early since it tops off at about 12 000 runners. Arrive about an hour before the start of the race to get parking, go to the restroom and line up (it gets crowded fast). I’d also suggest getting towards the front of the crowd to start if you can. My friend and I were up towards the front for the 9am race, but were in the second «wave» and started about 9:10. At 10:15 when we were already done and leaving, there were still waves of people starting the race! Crazy!
Overall, great race, lots of energy and tons of fun! I’d for sure do this race again next year.
