I’ve worked as a dental assistant for 3 years and have had some experience with orthodontic work (both braces and Invisalign®). I’ve also have had braces as a kid. My teeth were very overcrowded. My dad used to point and laugh and called me Dracula whenever I smiled because my K9’s protuded out (ok. I exaggerate. He didn’t actually point). I had 2 upper and 2 lower bicuspids pulled out to make room.
As a simple man and a father, besides making sure my kids are fed and educated, I simply make sure they receive two things: good sleep and straight teeth.
For the former, I invest in high-​quality mattresses and have a trusted ENT doctor:
The latter is the reason why I write this review. Many think that braces are good mainly for physical appearance and while it is beneficial to improve that (who doesn’t want a great smile!), it is the least of reasons why people should aim to straighten their teeth. The top reasons? Peace and money. The straighter your teeth, the easier to clean and maintain, the less dental work required in your lifetime.
DOCTORS (Drs. Sam Lee and Trang Nguyen)
Both Sam and Trang are Board certified. This is huge. One out of 3 ortho’s are certified by the Amer. Board of Orthodontics, which means Sam and Trang stood before a few of the most highly-​regarded, old timers in their field and put under review and met their approval. To achieve this at their young age is quite impressive.
But if you’re like me, you’d probably question their experience, or possible lack thereof. Both have already served other practices prior to this one and a few years under their belts. They left their previous doctors and staff on good terms. They teamed up because they have a vision of what they want to accomplish and saw how their individual personalities really complement each other. Both examine and review ALL cases. You would already receive a 2^nd opinion at one single visit. Sam’s got this entrepreneurial spirit and leads this practice towards excellence, which you will witness if you ever visit the practice. Also, Sam’s father AND father-​in-​law were orthos. The profession runs through his veins.
OFFICE
Operations are led by Wynter, who’s got 20 years of orthodontic experience in both back and front office work. The office is completely paperless and all equipment is digital. They have leading technology in video capture and 3-​D printing for developing models. If you happen to be thinking why this matters to me, the patient… LESS WAIT TIMES. More efficient office means less waiting and more of your time back. It’s rare that they ever have patient’s waiting longer than 5 minutes for their appointment. And nothing gets sent to labs with weeks of waiting during turnaround time. It’s all done there in the office.
The one thing that really impressed me: Itero® scanner. They are able to scan your mouth for models. No impressions! When I was 10 and getting ready for the braces, getting impressions taken was almost as bad as the teeth extractions. It’s not easy getting impressions done perfectly and sometimes required to be done multiple times. A child shouldn’t have to endure gagging of that level. Impressions suck!
WAITING ROOM
Three iPad stations, large flatscreen (that you are free to channel-​flip) and WiFi. If one sibling is getting work done, the rest of the family is taken care of. The coffee’s pretty good too.
ATMOSPHERE
No partitions in the back office. That was the first thing that struck me. I’ve never seen that in a dental office and it kinda weirded me out at first. Then I remembered that it’s purely ortho work done and can see how it brings about this lively energy as kids and families all congregate together as the work quickly gets done. Really adds to the family-​centered nature of the practice. Sam, Trang, and Wynter all actually care and want to get to know you. Most offices I’ve seen, including the one I used to work for, all have TV’s in the rooms for the patients to watch, but it’s funny how it does distance the patient from the staff. I guess that’s why this back office doesn’t have any TV’s there.
APPEAL = 10
This is my first choice for Ortho work for my children. The only thing that might deter us from this practice is if they suddenly stopped taking my insurance. But even if that were to occur, I would do my best to work something out the financials with them. Selecting and dedicating to an ortho practice should not be taken lightly. It literally is a relationship that you’re establishing. Remember, these are monthly visits at the least and you will see them on a regular basis, so choose wisely.

I owe my beautiful smile to Dr. Trang Nguyen! For the longest time I didn’t like smiling in pictures or smiling too widely in public, but after my invisalign procedure with Dr. Nguyen I can’t help show off my smile all the time. She’s warm, detailed, and so passionate about her patients, I don’t feel like just another procedure to her.
The office is modern and very cheerful, i find myself looking forward to my visits. If you’re looking for a practical and discreet way to improve your teeth and smile, I highly recommend invisalign. It’s so worth it. I also can’t recommend Dr. Nguyen enough, if only I can go to her for all my health needs! She’s happy to answer every question i had and in a way that left me feeling i was in great hands.

Whether it’s for corrective purposes or cosmetic, getting braces requires commitment; and, while it may mean temporarily sidelining some Unilocal bookmarks (for me, tacos trucks have sadly been put on hold), the long-​term benefits of braces and a great-​looking smile are paramount.
Although I certainly could have gotten braces when I was younger, it didn’t happen. Not until later in my life had I decided upon introducing myself. So here I was, finally, in Sons and Daughters, patiently waiting for my consultation. You know, it’s funny: orthodontists’ offices can seem a bit unnerving (to me, at least); but here at Sons and Daughters, the atmosphere is evidently warm and completely welcoming. You can’t help but smile when you walk in. I mean, the doctors and staff have gone far and beyond to make sure that their clients are not only happy, but fully appreciated as well. «The Smile Lab» really wants to help you out with something: making your smile better!
So those few bookmarks of mine, the ones I’ve had my eye on… Well, they’ll have to wait… for now. Because I’m getting a new smile! Besides, some of those bookmarks aren’t the healthiest of choices anyway. (I can get around that.) So, ultimately, there’s no downside. I’m happy – very happy – to have chosen to receive braces, and I am also relieved that Sons and Daughters is making my transition a positive one. =]

This place is awsome! Dr. Lee has been treating both my kids and I couldn’t be happier with the results so far. My daughter loves her smile now and she is only months in! The staff are very helpful and welcoming. The office is beautiful! I would totally recommend Sons and Daughters Orthodontics!

Beyond impressed with this orthodontics practice! State of the art equipment, super friendly staff, and knowledgeable meticulous caring doctors. Interior design is very chic as well. Highly recommend, five stars!

Dr. Nguyen was my orthodontist a few years ago when she was practicing in the LA area. I had to get four of my teeth removed since I didn’t have enough space and the final result is amazing — you couldn’t even tell there are any that are missing. I’ve since moved to the OC and recently lost my retainers. Of course I would only trust Dr. Nguyen to make me some new ones — and lucky for me she is now practicing near me in Irvine! The office is bright and clean and cheery, and the manager, Wynter, is super nice and friendly.
I always get compliments on the way my teeth look even to this day. My teeth still look amazing and now that I have my new retainers from Dr. Nguyen, they’re going to stay that way for a long, long time! Definitely come see her if you’re even thinking about orthodontic treatment. She’s the best.

This place is the best!!! I was referred here by my dentist for my son to get his teeth corrected. Dr. Lee examined my son’s teeth and fixed the issue with no problems. He was very patient and gentle with my son who’s deathly afraid of opening his mouth to his own dentist. He spoke calmly to ease my son’s fears and showed him how he fixes teeth. My son was so impressed with him he said he wanted to come back again. A place like this where my son wants to come back is all good in my book. I also made an appointment to fix my teeth here since my teeth are reverting back to where they were before I had braces. I’m sure Dr. Lee can make it a permanent fix.
Also, the place looks super nice! Gotta get the name of their decorator.

I found Dr. Lee when I was looking to get some help fixing my previous Invisalign mishaps. My former dentist wasn’t that great, but Sam stepped up and got my teeth back on track. He patiently explained the game plan and answered all my questions, then fitted me with some new trays that has me already more confident about my smile. I can confidently say he is the coolest orthodontist I know!
Ps — his office is the coolest

I went to Dr. Lee after several people recommended him. Since he went to both UCLA and USC for his dental training and residency (mini detective work by simply asking), he had to be worth checking out. My history is that I had braces as a kid and had to remove them early because we were moving to a new place and my parents couldnt afford to continue with treatment for me at that time.
Going to Sons and Daughters Orthodontics was definitely a major difference from what I remembered an orthodontic office looking like. TJust to name a few cool things, they chalkboard art, an iPad bar, apple computers everywhere and a very open concept. On top of that, Dr. Lee was super cool! I think I didnt expect him to look so young but that actually made me feel like I could really relate to him. And hes a Laker fan! Wynter went over my financial options and I was able to go with the clear braces at a suprisingly affordable cost. Im supposed to be done in only about a year so can’t wait to finally finish what was started back in the day.
Thank you to Dr. Lee and the crew at Sons and Daughters for helping me get started again on this journey and making the choice easy. I can’t wait to see the final results.

I have known Dr. Lee for numerous years and he is an honest reliable and will deliver your needs, kind of a doctor. He will thoroughly review different options as well as recommend what you truly need vs. unnecessary ones.
The facility is not only state of the art but its also refreshing to see the office is fun and inviting for clients, which is RARE at an Ortho!

Sons & Daughters is a great place to come for your orthodontic needs! I have known both Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Lee on both a professional and personal level for nearly 10 years. They are meticulous, detail-​oriented and it’s clear to see that they love what they do. Their office is state of the art and is equipped with the latest technologies and gadgets.
Most importantly, they are honest people and they truly care for their patients’ well-​being. I wouldn’t hesitate for a minute to send my patients or any of my family members to them for braces. Definitely come by and see for yourself!

I’ve been thinking about getting braces for a while, but always thought it would be too painful, too much work, and too expensive. A friend suggested that I visit Dr. Lee at Sons and Daughters. So I took my laundry list of questions, and headed to Irvine… btw, Irvine traffic is pretty insane, so I’m glad S&D is conveniently located just off the 5.
First of all, this place looks like an Apple Store. It’s clean, modern, bright, and there are even iPads located in the waiting area. I hopped on the iPad station and launched ESPN. Before the homepage could load, Dr. Lee was ready to see me… talk about quick/​punctual!
Dr. Lee and Wynter, the office manager (I think), were so friendly. I felt comfortable sharing all my concerns; they were able to put me at ease and answers all my questions. And believe me, I had a ton of questions (regarding invisalign, insurance, whitening, and everything in between). They even shared some new treatment options that would cut my treatment time in half!
I am proud to say that I am starting invisalign treatment. Rather than being scared, I’m quite excited. More success at work, more HOT dates — maybe, maybe-​not. But I am sure that my new smile will bring a huge boost of confidence.

Let’s just say this… I would not be with my boyfriend if it wasn’t for Dr. Lee. My bf’s teeth were a hot mess before getting braces. His upper jaw had a tooth that was in hiding and his teeth on his bottom jaw were so compacted due to his narrow face structure. However, now after 9 – 10 months since getting braces, he (or we) both couldn’t be any happier! He can’t stop smiling :). His hidden tooth came out to say hello to the world and his bottom teeth are looking straighter and straighter as each day passes. Dr. Lee has done a great job so far and has accelerated the process so that he will only need braces for 2 – 3 more months! The ambience is pretty hipster as can be seen with the blackboard, the iPad stands, and the lights. I think you really need to come in and witness yourself to see how different this office looks compared to others! I highly recommend this orthodontist!
PS: If you come in at the right time you might even be able to score a homemade macaron.

When Dr. Lee left our old orthodontist’s office, we were quite disappointed. But as fate would have it, both Dr. Lee and our family ended up in Irvine, and we always said we would follow him to his next office location.
Sons n Daughters Orthodontics new, modern space is conveniently located on Walnut Ave. just off of Jeffrey and the 5 freeway.

My son loved the several iPad’s lined up for fun. I liked the large screen tv for my viewing pleasure. Of course, the Keurig drinks dispenser, in house, is much appreciated, too.
Top all the tech and fun at Sons and Daughters Orthodontics with a highly skilled UCLA orthodontist who is patient, kind, hip, and a Dad himself (so he gets kids)…it’s a recipe for an actual pleasant next few years for your kids, as they beautify their smiles with Dr. Lee’s guidance.

No metal braces for me! I just started my Invisalign treatment here and so far so good! Had braces when I was younger and didn’t wear my retainers so needed a touch up. Dr. Sam Lee comes recommended by some friends and even though I have to travel from San Diego for my appointments, I do it because I feel like S&D is different from other orthodontic offices. Seriously when did dental offices get so hip?! Office is brand new, in a great location, and most importantly, I feel like Dr. Lee and Dr. Nguyen treat me like family. truly high tech and high touch. Office is super accommodating and always runs on time. Already starting to see some progress and can’t wait to finish up! This time I’ll wear my retainers.

I had braces as a teen and had a fixed metal retainer on my lower teeth for about 10 yrs. I came down to Orange County for the weekend to attend a wedding, and (of course) my old retainer decided to break, leaving a wire poking into my tongue.
I called a few offices nearby but most had no same day appointments, and some recommended I see my original orthodontist. Getting a hold of Dr. Lee was a huge relief — he offered to come in AFTER his office hours to remove my old wire and place a new wire the same day. Not sure if this is standard for ortho offices but it was something new for me.
Thanks again, Dr. Lee, for taking me in on such short notice, and fixing me before the wedding — I’m so grateful! Anyone that wants a down to earth doctor and reliable treatment, definitely check this place out.

So, I’ve been visiting Dr. Lee for the past few years having transferred from my original orthodontist when the drive to San Diego became too much for me. I needed an orthodontist that my insurance covered and was able to find his office.
He was very helpful in the transition and was able provide me a schedule that worked for me. The original consultation was very informative and he reiterated the importance of maintaining good habits when taking care of braces so I didn’t have to prolong my treatment.
If you are in the area and in need of orthodontic treatment, I’d recommend going to Dr. Lee. Dude is legit and definitely cares about his patients.

I had a small gap in my teeth that was bothering me for some time. My dentist Dr. Bui recommended I go and visit Dr. Lee who had opened a brand new orthodontic office in her same plaza. I’m usually hesitant visiting a new place for anything related to my health care but was in the plaza the same day so decided to at least go in to try to make an appointment. First of all, I was blown away by how nice the office looked. This office had a very cool and professional feel to it. Everything was brand new and very modern. I was greeted by the front office manager Wynter, who was able to set me up for a consultation that day.
When I met Dr. Lee, I was very impressed with the way he explained my treatment options and walked me through pros and cons of each option. Even though I didn’t commit to any treatment that day, I felt very comfortable and impressed with the way everything was presented. I actually had two other consultations later that week and was given other treatment options that were either considerably longer and/​or more expensive. Wynter ended up following up with me at the end of the week to go over any other concerns I had. I ended up going with them because 1) the treatment options were explained clearly, 2) it was extremely affordable and 3) I just felt very comfortable with the way I was walked through the entire process.
Definitely recommend Sons and Daughters!

I love this place, I grind my teeth at night and went in for a night guard and Dr. Sam and staff took good care of me. Dr. Sam will treat you with stellar professionalism and his knowledge in the field me feel comfortable from start to finish.
The facility is clean and the professional, comfortable environment definitely helps. Who loves going to the dentist or orthos? *this guy* does. Nothing BUT great things.

I have been looking for a place to use my FSA for Invisalign but wanted to find a place that had certified top of the line orthodontists. I’m a firm believer in «you get what you pay for» and so I wanted to feel sure I was getting worked on by the best, esp with something as important as my teeth.
I heard about Sons & Daughters Orthodontics from a friend and decided to check them out for a consultation. My first impression was, «wow this place is really nice, all new and very clean (didn’t feel at all like the run down places I had been before for other dental work. My second thought was, hmm does this mean this place is going to cost a fortune ???)
I was very kindly greeted by the very helpful receptionist. She knew all the ins and outs of my FSA and how I was supposed to use it, cause honestly I didn’t know how it worked but she helped me with it all. The orthodontist was also very informative and walked me thru the process of what we would be doing informing me before taking the impressions of my teeth. The process was quick and easy.
Now was the cost, as I said before I had been searching and comparing prices of Invisalign and this place is not only very nice with excellent service and quality board certified orthodontists but it’s at a very competitive price point. I am so excited for this process and it’s good to know that I will be well taken care of.
