Our value to you is that with a one-time appointment, The Color Coach provides definitive choices of paint colors that work together to create your desired look and coordinate your entire home.

The Color Coach® uses specific, scientific methods to determine your paint color palette. Depending on the size and complexity of the project, this is accomplished with a one-time visit of about 1 – 3 hours. Appointments are set for mid-day for optimum lighting, typically between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. We come to your home or business and discuss the colors you love and those you do not. We’ll find out from you what furniture, artwork and fabrics are important in each room and show you colors that will coordinate all of the elements of your home. Upon completion of color selection, we provide you with a detailed worksheet indicating the exact colors to be used in each area by brand of paint, the color name & number, and the sheen for each room (i.e., bathrooms may have more sheen than other rooms for moisture protection, etc.).

Paula DeMars, Founder and Licensor of The Color Coach, has been a color and fashion consultant for more than 25 years. In 2002, Paula decided to take her business from wardrobe consulting to working exclusively with color in the home by applying the principles of color coordination to the living and working environment. She soon created The Color Coach System; a system to help people select the perfect paint color palettes for use in decorating their homes and offices.

As a published writer, Paula’s articles have appeared in Orange County Living, Coastal Home, Image, Preferred Home and Living, and Orange Coast magazines.

Working with more than 6,500 satisfied customers, Paula has now expanded her unique business to other parts of the country by licensing and training others in The Color Coach System.

Newport Beach, California-based Paula DeMars, Founder and Licensor of The Color Coach, has been a color and fashion consultant for more than 25 years.

As a top sales rep for a prestigious company in the sportswear industry, she was also regularly appointed to the seasonal design review boards because of her thorough understanding of how color translates into design.

Paula created her home-based business, carrying a line of high end clothing, and consulted with clients on color coordination and wardrobe building incorporating Renae’s training.

In 2002, encouraged by Renae, Paula decided to take her business from wardrobe consulting to working exclusively with color in the home, applying the principles of color coordination to the living and working environment. She soon created The Color Coach System; a system to help people select the perfect paint color palettes for use in decorating their homes and offices.

The two hours I spent with Kathleen was exactly what I needed to get our living/dining room project back on track! Kathleen took a look at the flooring and lighting we installed two years ago, as well as the wall colors we chose back then to get an idea of our midcentury modern/eclectic «style». I was looking for her help in selecting new upholstery fabrics for our existing sofas, and for suggestions for window treatment colors for the new replacement windows that we had installed the week before. Kathleen had suggested before we met that I go get samples of fabrics and materials that I liked. She gave me suggestions for places to go. When we met she quickly eliminated samples that didn’t work well with our flooring and then worked with me to identify the options that I liked best. She also pointed out that one of the paint colors that we were already using wasn’t quite right for the room and gave a suggestion of the appropriate color. I look forward to using it.
All of this that I have mentioned is what I expected when I decided to call The Color Coach. What I didn’t expect were the exciting new ideas for areas that I wasn’t paying attention to «yet». These were the entry, the fireplace and some boring double doors leading to a den. I’m sure that once we have taken care of painting our window walls, installing window treatments and re-upholstering the sofas, these other areas will quickly attract our negative attention! However, now thanks to Kathleen, we already have some specific design suggestions plus direction on where to go get samples for the materials involved. Home decorating has been a time-consuming, anxiety-ridden activity for me, but with Kathleen’s help I’m actually having some fun this time!

Paint colors are not my thing. I found Kathleen online and decided it would be worth the money for her to come and give an opinion. Kathleen was lovely and really paid attention to what type of family we are. She commented that we have a lot of color in the items in our home (art, etc.), so our walls really need to be a nice background. She knew exactly where to bring in more color and how to make our home brighter and more inviting. After about 1−½ hours of walking, talking and color choosing, we came away with a lovely color palette that I can’t wait to see realized in our home. I decided to give The Color Coach a try after 3 weeks of agonizing over paint color for the interior of my home. I wanted to get it right since this would be the first time we painted our home since purchase 10 years prior. Up until this point, we had been living with white walls throughout.
I contacted Paula who was able to come to my home a few days after our conversation and just 2 days prior to when the painters were set to arrive. She immediately got to work looking at the layout of my home and explained what she looks for to help choose the best colors. I told her what colors I do and do not like, and within the span of two hours, was able to nail down the interior colors of my home, as promised.
She was an absolute delight to work with, and she made the process fun for me. When she left, I was felt invigorated again about painting my home’s interior. She encouraged me and/or the painters to contact her after our meeting if there were any questions and I did — twice. She got back to me immediately and was extremely helpful. Fantastic customer service!
The paint job was completed yesterday, and I can say that she absolutely did a fantastic job. The house flows beautifully from room to room, and I am so glad I chose to hire her. The money was well spent.
If you are on the fence about hiring The Color Coach, I encourage you to at least call and get a quote. It’s not the cheapest, but it is worth it considering you will be surrounded by the colors you choose for a long time.

My fellow Unilocalers were spot on: Kathleen Jewel is phenomenal. I have hit or miss luck with Unilocal and this was a definite hit!
We moved into our home 2 years ago and didn’t have the time to paint prior to moving in due to a short escrow. Off and on for the past two years we have played with colors trying to determine what colors would work best with the many transitions we have in our home. After much agony I finally called Kathleen. We had a very limited budget and I was concerned about spending some of it on a «color coach» but this is some of the best money I have ever spent. Kathleen understood exactly what I liked within the first 20 minutes. We spent close to 4 hours selecting paint colors, discussing potential remodeling we will do down the road, writing down the exact paint colors and numbers and then marking the walls to help the painters with the transitions from room to room. One of the things I appreciated most was not only does Kathleen have a true gift for color and decorating but she also made it extremely simple and easy for me to articulate to the painters exactly what we wanted and where. My husband and I are both in sales and Kathleen is extremely professional and she genuinely cares about her clients and their happiness with the selections.
I had wanted to wait to write this review until our home was painted to give a fair and accurate review. The paint colors and the way they all work together has exceeded my expectations.
I rarely write reviews however in this case I couldn’t NOT write a review. Kathleen has a true gift and is extremely talented. When (not if) you call Kathleen you will be delighted with the results!

She not only picked the perfect colors to paint my house, she also made design suggestions that would improve the appearance of my home. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting Kathleen Jewel. It was such a fun experience using an artist to design my home! Left to my own devices, I would have picked the absolute wrong colors and my home would have been as lifeless as the white walls it has right now. I had used Kathleen for our interior, and as you will see from our previous review, we are delighted. I called her in when it was time to repaint the exterior. Again, I knew what I was looking for, but couldn’t be sure the chips would translate well into the reality. I had been mixing my own custom shades with great trepidation until I finally gave up and called her. In a very brief and delightful encounter, she helped me find the colors which would energize our look. Once again, I rested in the confidence that my choices, with her vote of approval, would work. I am thrilled with the results. Investing in this woman’s true expertise is worth it! I had paid far more for the many swatches, not to mention the gas and time and angst of driving back and forth to the paint store. THIS WOMAN IS A GEM!

Paula came highly recommended by a neighbor for help in choosing paint colors. Very happy I had her help me, she’s a master of her craft!!! Her service is not inexpensive… but she will be first one I call the next time I need help with paint. Inside of two hours she came up with a terrific paint scheme. Most of my furnishings were on order, so all she had to work with was small samples. Paula brought paint chips from various vendors and explained the different qualities. Her project form made it easy for my painter to know which brand and color was to go on each wall.

Kathleen Jewell came to my home in Corona… WHY WHY did I wait to call her.
I had no less than 20 sample paints on the wall and was totally frustrated.
Kathleen came in and took charge. She totally got me and my taste.
Not only did she design the colors for the house but I received a complete drawing to scale of the entertainment center I wanted built.

Paula came out to the house and spent two hours with me. She showed me things about my house exterior that I didn’t even know; areas that pop out where I could use complimentary colors. This review is for Paula she was super awesome to work with. We spoke a few times before she actually came over to do the color selection. I explained everything to her how I had a contractor completely destroy my home with water damage and where we had to basically start over and do the entire house. She came and took her time with me and even though my house was currently under construction and also working with the rain outside and my windows covered up with plastic possibly effecting the lighting of the house she did a absolute wonderful job. She took so much stress off me knowing that just in a few hours all my colors for my entire home were picked out and I didn’t have to stress about it anymore. Because anyone who knows when picking out colors for your home can be pretty hard and stressful due to how many different choices of colors there are out there. Also what looks good in a book or a magazine might not necessarily mean it will be right for your home. This also in the long run can be pretty expensive if you end up choosing the wrong colors. This is where Paula’s expertise comes in. She works with the lighting, flooring, cabinets, tile color and furniture to make sure the colors that are selected are just right for you. I highly recommend her and have already recommended her to a few friends. She’s defiantly worth the investment and you won’t be sorry I promise.
