Yes, I’ve been going to Animal Hospital of Valley Ranch since 2002. over 13 years! Over this time, Dr. Chaikin has taken care of 2 cats and 3 dogs for their shots, checkups, grooming, medications and Boarding. He is a VERY nice person and VERY professional! When choosing a vet, education, background experience, results, and longevity are what matter most. I don’t need to be entertained while I’m there, but Jennifer always smiles, puts in timely orders for flea and heartworm preventatives, and returns my calls about anything with respect. Their on-​site house cat GIG’EM is a joy!
When you look at Dr. Chaikin’s background (Example: Texas A & M Graduate and years as an Animal Emergency room Vet) you will see that Dr. Chaikin is a VERY EXPERIENCED veterinarian, and that he is very serious about the work he does for his clients the community.
I’m very picky about who handles my pets, but I know I can trust his work AND his staff with my pets!
Dr. Chaikin works closely with area Rescue Groups, and genuinely cares about the pets he sees. I love his new Facebook page for the clinic:

I’m giving two stars for the customer service from the ladies at the front desk. I’ve always had very pleasant interactions with them. Unfortunately, Dr. Chaikin is one of the most unfriendly people I’ve ever met. I’m almost echoing what another reviewer said, but I wasn’t greeted by the doctor, he didn’t give me a chance to explain anything about my cats situation and he was just overall unpleasant. If you’re the pet owner who likes to talk through treatment plans and have your veterinarian smile at you, you may want to skip this place.

I gave this animal hospital one star because the two women that were in the front were amazing. I was in towm visiting my parents and wanted to try their vet for not only a second opinion on my dogs issue but to maybe make a change to them if I do decide to relocate to the Dallas area. I will NOT be returning to them for anything and my mom will not be going back either she says.
The doctor is an old ass hole. I mean seriously. Didn’t smile and shake any hands. No «nice to meet you what brings you in today» he went straight into questions. Which is fine he just did not allow you to answer or give any explanation of the things you know for sure. He didn’t greet my dog either. Not a people person or pet. My dog is not one that dislikes the vet. He thinks its a play time situation. However, I should have known from the minute we walked in and my dog got all weird and klingy that it was not the place to be. Again, I will NOT be returning to see Dr. Barry. The only nice thing was the girls in the front.

These people care.
It was Christmas. My son was in town with his dog, and while we were away for an hour, his dog got into the Christmas stockings and ate all his doggy treats, along with a bunch of chocolates and chocolate chip cookies and who knows what else! We called their emergency number in a panic, and they not only answered right away, they were extremely helpful and caring. Their advice helped us immensely and our furry buddy was fine. We never had to actually GO there, but can attest to their timely manner in answering the phone over the Holiday when the office was closed and they were ready and willing to see if should the need have arrived. I would definitely go to these folks should I ever need their services!!!

Dr Barry spent a good amount of time with us which we really appreciated. He answered all of our questions and gave our cat a thorough check up. He didn’t try to make us buy anything our cat didn’t need, in fact he was very honest about telling us which vaccinations weren’t necessary for her. Overall we had a good experience here and truly appreciated the service!

I love Animal Hospital of Valley Ranch. I have been using the services of Dr. Chaiken for over 11 years. At first, it was for my elderly dog, who sadly had to be put to sleep in 2004. A week after this sad event, I got a condolence card from the doctor, expressing sympathy and reassuring me I did what was necessary for my pet. I was so touched, I have kept the card to this day.
Now, I take my three cats there. The front office staff is wonderful, prices are reasonable and they do a good job. I will stick with this place, for sure!

I am torn here. The customer service in the morning is great! The customer service in the evening sucks. I also don’t like that the groomer is an outsourced groomer and does not leave notes for you regarding anything concerning your pet. She knicked my dog’s paw and when I went to piick him up, it couldn’t be explained. I won’t be using them again

Lucky my cats are healthy and we only need to go to the vet minimal amount of times. If we had to come often, I would change vets. I haven’t had an exceptional experience here but it wasn’t horrible…
ANNUAL EXAM
On my initial call to set up an appointment, the receptionist wasn’t nice, almost like I was bothering her from her day. I scheduled an appointment for an annual exam for both kitties. The day of, I was running late (who knew Irving had a traffic problem?!) called to confirm. They tried to post pone my appointment while I was in the car, half-​way there with my kitties! I ended up talking them into seeing us a few minutes late.
Parking was a hassle because I had 2 huge kennels (the ones we used to ship the kitties via airlines) and it was a pain to get them in the vet, can you imagine a 100lb girl trying to lug 2 kennels in to the building? I guess it would be pretty funny.
There was a tiny bit of a wait and we went in to the exam room. The Dr did a quick exam and I was good to go after paying at the front desk.
STOOL SAMPLE
A few weeks later, I needed to get stool sample results for our cats to be boarded with play time in a common area during a short trip. I called and the office was surprised that a stool sample wasn’t taken the day of the annual exam… Ok… The receptionist told me, once I submitted the samples, the results would come back within a day or two. I submitted the sample and NO RESULTS. I finally got my results… 2 weeks after my trip –_​– Way to drop the ball…
My impression is that they don’t care enough to follow up or follow any guidelines they have in place. Maybe it’s because I don’t have a dog… I’m not sure. This is the closest quality vet near me but I’m still considering another farther vet for better service.

He didn’t seem to care much about my kitty and her allergy issues. I paid for 2 office visits with this doc and he took the $ without even examining my cat thoroughly. Switching vets immediatley!

Same as Eunice N, I took my doggy here after I adopted her from Irving’s Urgent Animal Shelter and this animal hospital was one of the ones listed as a location that would spay the doggies and perform an exam for free.
The front desk ladies are amazing. They’re so pleasant on the phone, and they put me at ease while I was freaking out about my 7lb doggy going into surgery. They were able to answer all of my questions, and did not try to upsell me anything.
This place is so warm and friendly, unlike many other animal hospitals I’ve experienced. Would definitely recommend to fellow animal lovers to take their babies here!

I started going here after I adopted my dog from DFW Humane Society, because Dr. Chaikin was one of its partner vets, and he conducted the intial examination for free. Since then, I started taking all 3 of my dogs there and always recommend to friends. They have great hours (open early until late, including Saturday hours) and the charges are very reasonable. I highly recommend!

Great local vet, with good hours. The front desk staff is knowledgeable and friendly.
We use this vet for our cat. My wife usually takes the cat, so I can’t remember his name. His manner isn’t over the top friendly, but he’s great at what he does, and that’s what counts.
We have to buy prescription food, and this place has several options, both wet and dry, for many animals.
Every September they run specials on teeth cleaning for your furry friends.

We have been taking both of our cats to Dr. Chaikin for the past few years and he is a very caring and practical vet. His staff as well loves pets and you can see that they care a great deal about them.
He has never tried to up sell me and in fact many time could have charged us more as I told him whatever you need to do to care for our cats including shots and most recently post operation pain medicine. In many times he did not administer unnecessary items and always had a reason based upon medicine and his years of training.
I most certainly recommend Dr. Chaikin and hope that he can continue caring for our cats for years to come.
