Description

Specialties

Karma Thegsum Choling Dallas is a center for meditation and study in the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. KTC Dallas is the home base for the eminent Lama Dudjom Dorjee. (Google his name for a list of his books, available on amazon.com and elsewhere.)

We regularly hold teaching and practice retreats at our Meditation Center in Irving and there are other teachings throughout the metroplex and in Denton. The best way to find out what we are doing is to go to our website www.ktcdallas.org, and look at the upcoming events.

Our public day is on Sundays — we have meditation instruction in the morning for those who wish it at 9:00 am, and Lama Dudjom Dorjee speaks at 9:30 am. Often he is available for short personal interviews after his talk.

History

Established in 1985.

KTC DALLAS was begun in the 1980s by a group of local individuals with an interest in meditation and Tibetan Buddhist teachings. Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche authorized the formation of KTC Dallas as an affiliate center of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in 1990.

In 1990 the center also purchased its own building in a residential neighborhood in north Oak Cliff, and then in 2013 purchased a new center in Irving, Texas, close to DFW airport.

KTC Dallas has enjoyed a stable and growing membership base, currently around 108 members.

Meet the Manager

Lama Dudjom Dorjee D.

Manager

Lama Dudjom Dorjee is the resident teacher at Karma Thegsum Choling Dallas, and we are very honored that he is here. In 1981 the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa authorized Lama Dorjee as his representative of the Kagyu lineage in the United States. Lama Dorjee began his teaching in the United States in 1982 and is now the resident Lama at the Karma Thegsum Choling Dallas, where he has lived and taught since June of 1998.

Lama Dorjee is noted for his humor and is able to synthesize his familiarity with Western culture and Buddhist philosophy to offer students unique insights into meditation practice. Lama Dorjee has trained for fifteen years in Buddhist philosophy, history, and four languages: Sanskrit, Hindi, Tibetan and English. He completed his course of study and received the third and highest degree of Acharya from Sanskrit University, Varansi, India. He then accomplished the seclusive three-year, three-month retreat in India.
