I’ve been going to U-Yee for YEARS. At least 15. This place is consistently good. Lots of variety and they serve alcohol, so that’s a bonus. If you like rolls, there are so many crazy inventive ones to choose from. They have some of the old classics too for people who aren’t as daring. Over the years I’ve tried many and, for the most part, they’ve all been good. Everything has always tasted fresh. Their tempura ice cream dessert is delicious and although it’s been a long time since I’ve ordered it, the tiramisu is pretty good as well. I’ve had their Hibachi once and it was good. Nothing extraordinary, just your typical hibachi. All in all, a great place to get your sushi fix when it comes to food. The downside is that this place gets insanely packed. Come for lunch instead of dinner. Also, the service here is sometimes not so great. I’ve had great servers and not so great servers. I’ve also been pushed to leave after paying our bill and hanging out for a bit because there was a line of people waiting. I get it, but still found it extremely rude. Ambiance is nothing spectacular. Place is actually kind of cramped. But the food is good, so I will always return.

U-Yee Sushi is my 2nd favorite spot for sushi(after Mr. Pi’s in Metuchen, but they are closed now). We love the summer rolls as well as the sushi pizza. We have also gone to Hibachi for a few occasions and the chefs are great. One particular one was very good with my kids and made them balloon animals. The décor is just ok — but the service is usually very good(everyone has their bad days). This place gets busy though!

3rd time last time. Lost my order, even sitting at sushi bar. Sat for almost an hour, watches people eating that came in after me. Owner told me to relax, don’t leave, and sit back down and enjoy your meal when you get it. No apology or nothing. Walked out hungry. Had an appointment so no time to eat anywhere else. Guess this guy does real well to talk to customers like that. I was very understanding. just could not wait anymore. He was actually nasty to me for leaving… wow.

Went on new Year’s Eve. Got a table pretty quickly even without a reservation. Staff was friendly and accomodating. Chefs at the hibachi table put on a great show and were very entertaining. Friendly, fun and of course delicious. No other hibachi quite compares to U-yee.

I haven’t been to U-Yee since 2011 and it is good to be back. Let’s discuss a few things. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was the second person here and the people keep piling in, which is always a good sign to me. The food was(almost)spot on, you’ll see why below. I ordered a lunch special which started with a house salad and miso soup. Both of these, although simple are the most deliscious at U-Yee. I ordered some fried gyosa and it was ok. I should have went with the steamed but my wife wasn’t here so I figured I’ll try something less healthy. Onto the main dish. I ordered three roles, spicy tuna, sweet potato and shrimp tempura. The tuna and shrimp tempura were delicious, just like I remember but the sweet potato was WAY too fried. Unfortunately the sweet potato roll I order in upstate NY is better, which you expect NJ(being so close to NYC) would blow anything from upstate away. Lastly, I couldn’t decide if my plate smelled or if it was the smell of fried sweet potato. Every time I would lean in to take a bite I caught a wiff of a bad odor. I eventually realized it was the fried sweet potato roll which I ended up not eating all of it. In the end I would come here any day of the week. Id just avoid the sweet potato roll.

I love all things tuna, and this place does it right. They have, in my opinion, the best peppered tuna in central NJ. I highly recommend the shrimp tempura along with the sashimi. Ambience is nice and the service has always been good. Haven’t yet tried any of the hibachi, though, but I shall soon and give an update.

This place is consistently great with their sushi. The guys who make the sushi are very nice and deserve all the tips they can get because the sushi tastes so good. Every day is half price from 3– close. 1 downside: you wait forever for your sushi to come out when all the tables are full. But the food is still great!

This used to be my favorite place to go for sushi back in the college days. I finally got the opportunity to go back here again. Not much has changed at all. It was pretty packed on a Tuesday night. I would of given it a 4 star if not for their extremely sticky tables. My arm was sticking to it! The sushi was just ok. I do have to compliment then on their speediness. Our sushi came out really fast and the waitress was very nice. If you want decent sushi, I would definitely come here. .especially Mon-thurs after 4:30 for their half price menu. My favorite was the volcano roll and spider roll.

Excellent fresh food, great sushi, half price sushi I forget the times but it’s a few hours every week night. The hibachi is excellent as well.

Nice. Haven’t been here since 2002, but it’s the same in looks as it was. I don’t think that things are as special as they used to be. The ½ price sushi is kind of a misnomer. Those prices are pretty high for regular rolls. Was the food good? Yes. Anything out of the ordinary? Absolutely not. Three of us met here for dinner for our monthly girls’ night out. Each of us placed a different order. I had two rolls and three pieces of sashimi. The rolls were small but good. I had a Ninja roll(yellowtail & avocado with roe outside) and a Christmas roll(salmon, tuna, avocado & fish roe). It was a good place to sit and have fun, but I remembered it as being a bit more special than it was.

We came here for my birthday. There was a group of nearly 20 of us and they handled us well. The food was great and the chefs were really entertaining. The cooks in the back were so unprofessional they literally stood faces pressed against the window staring at us and didn’t try to hide it. They watched us walk out. It was really creepy. At one point they pointed and laughed at a friend of mind. Completely unprofessional.

I used to go here endless times back in the college days. Now, it’s more out of convenience if I know I’ll be in the area or driving by. Half price some of the sushi rolls majority of the time, but all the better tasting stuff is not half-priced. I love their giant specialty rolls. Also, their sushi pizza is the one that inspired me to make my own. All in all, pretty good priced sushi, cheap drinks too and a hibachi section for anyone who is interested. Good for special rolls, not purist sushi or anything. I’ve never really been disappointed with their freshness. They have always been pretty consistent for me as a good go-to spot in Jersey when you’re feeling like having some rolls.

Probably the best sushi I’ve ever had. I enjoy coming here when everything is half-off. My favorite roll: dragon roll. I eat like a champ here. Bring whoever you want here, you will not be disappointed.

I’ve only been here once because my friend really enjoys this sushi spot! I came here with my friend to try something new, and it was undoubtedly a good time! I ordered the calamari salad, a salmon roll and a special roll. The calamari salad was generous with its crispy and flavorful fried calamari. The rice wrapping the sushi rolls were also very warm, aromatic, and fresh. The decors of wooden tables and asian style curtains/dividers gave the restaurant a calming atmosphere with japanese feels. The only thing was that the service could definitely be improved. The place can get pretty crowded around the evening time. Sometimes it was difficult to get the waiter’s attention, and it took some time for the dishes to come out.

HANDSDOWNMYFAVORITESUSHIANDHIBATCHIINTHEAREA!!! Keep in mind, I was a «fake sushi» eater for basically my entire life(aka NORAWFISH, avocado rolls, cucumber rolls… yeaaaaaaaa) BUT times have changed hahaha. I have been coming to U-Yee for many many years because my friends have always been Sushi fans and I would eat everything BUT. Ok, lets get a few things out of the way– Sunday-Thursday– Half Price sushi. AMAZING. Take full advantage of this, but don’t forget to order at least 1 roll that is NOT on the list(there really isn’t much that is NOT on the half price list). Get there early because it is always packed. Sitting at the sushi bar and watching the guys work there magic is a must. My boyfriend and I always end up ordering enough for about 10 people and say that we won’t order more than a certain amount each time we go… but that never happens. To this day, I do not know what it’s called, but we saw one of the«sushi masters«make it and HAD to have it. Hands down the best roll I have ever had there! It is NOT on the half price list, but well worth it! All I know is that it’s wrapped in avocado with lobster and«special sauce drizzled on top. Writing this review makes me crave sushi more and more grrrrrrrr! Hibachi– My favorite in the area. Love it and their prices. Yum yum yummmmmmmmmm! Staff– Love them. Never had any issues and the old man is always so welcoming. Love listening to his stories if I ever end up waiting for a table there. ALSO… they do NOT deliver, BUT honor their half price sushi. Just go!

I am someone who would frequent U Yee sushi often but last night I went there for the last time. It was around 9:00pm and they were doing their half off sushi. It took about 30 minutes for us to get our sushi, and in that time, I saw a cockroach crawling on the sushi bar(where the sushi is prepared). Not a small one either– it looked like a spider. When I told the waitress, she tried to kill it but it ran away too quickly. I have heard that when there is one crawling out in the open like that, typically it means the place is infested. Additionally, my boyfriend got sick from the little food he did eat when we finally got it(I refused to eat any after that). It is safe to say I will never be eating there again.

Almost 6 years later I return to U-Yee. I wasn’t avoiding it but I just was never in the area and wanting sushi at the same time. At 6pm on a Thursday we walked in to a quiet dinner service. We were immediately seated and taken care of. In complete contrast to my first visit service was attentive and fast — water glasses filled, orders taken, and food delivered in reasonable time frames. We ordered an assortment from the half-price sushi menu — definitely a better option than getting a «sushi dinner.» Everything was fresh and clean tasting, though some of the rolls a bit fragile. As our dinner progress U-Yee quickly filled; by 7 the restaurant was comfortably full. I suspect if we had arrived in the crowd we would have had a similar experience to my last visit — good food but long wait times. Still, knowing now that the service is slow because they are busy rather than incompetent earns them a 4th star.

Es war mein bestes Sushi. Da kann echt jeder Sushi Laden in Deutschland nicht mithalten. Leider ist es für uns zu weit um mal öfters vorbeizukommen. Alle Daumen hoch!

U-Yee can be found in the back of a shopping complex and would normally look like a place you wouldn’t really want to eat Sushi, however, you would be missing out. The Décor: It can get pretty crowded in here and the décor is just a bunch of tables tightly packed together. The Food: Overall, its pretty good sushi and normal priced during regular business hours. However, if you go from Monday to Thursday after 4:30 and get their ½ price sushi, you are getting a bargain. Only the more generic rolls and sushi options are available on their ½ price menu but so be it. Service: Don’t expect anything amazing. If you can flag them down and they respond within a few minutes, you are getting their best. Recommendations: One of my favorite appetizers is the Tuna Tataki, its really well made and the ponzu sauce is not too much. Their baby octopus appetizer is great too. Rolls are going to vary based on your own taste, but I really like all that I have tried.
