Wild Dunes Resort

Horrible customer service. We had a problem and they did not help out at all. We have stayed at the Isle of Palms at the Boardwalk before. I reserved the room online. There were two options I could purchase for a double bed hotel room. The room I chose online was to include breakfast. When we got there at check in they did not have breakfast include. They had a $ 25.00 credit. The restaurants are very expensive and that would only cover one person for breakfast. We went to front desk to see if we could resolve this issue. They referred us to the manager. We had to call her 3 different times. They basically told us tough. She said that we did not order breakfast. Why would we pay $ 65.00 more for breakfast to get a $ 25.00. I will not go back to Wild Dunes and will advise everyone of their poor customer service.

Horrible experience here. These guys really know how to shit on good business. The room was crap, we had to relocate another room. The room we finally ended up with was a garbage can. Went to take a shower, opened the glass door and it completely fell off of the hinges… Can you say SAFETY HAZARD!!! When confronting the staff we could see them smirking, I’m glad they take customer safety as a joke! We were also billed and charged for five nights when our duration there was only four days. It’s been two days now and we still have yet to be refunded.
PLEASE AVOID THEM AT ALL COST.

Really enjoyed my time at this place. I’ve come here twice and enjoyed it both times. The golf course was nice as well.

Let me just say the accommodations and amenities are beautiful. But that’s where my praise ends. The staff placed us in the incorrect room which we assumed was a complimentary upgrade for our honeymoon. Their error was discovered when we left to get groceries after check in and our keys didn’t work, shortly before 10p.m. The cheeked then asked us to pack up our stuff and MOVE. I explained that we’d completely unpacked and even had wet clothes washing in the laundry. The clerk basically said our new room would have similar amenities and «they’d do something for us in compensation at checkout» we called them to notify then we’d fully packed and were prepared for bell staff to facilitate our move only to find out we weren’t moving… And to unpack again. Our only compensation was champagne and strawberries… Which we don’t like and didn’t consume. Then we had to contend with our keys deactivating 3 of the four days we were there. Oh, and for some reason people were scraping stuff across the floor above us at all hours of the day and night. The water heater was too small to adequately fill the soaking tub we’d eagerly looked forward to and the beds were hard.
Additionally I’ve never been to such a restrictive resort. They do not allow personal coolers or outside food and drink at any of the resort pools and you have to go through the pool area to get to the beach unless you have a beach front property. You also cannot access the garage or luggage carts unless you utilize bell service and valet– complimentary of course, except tipping is expected. It’s also quite isolated from shopping and dining unless you have enough money not to care about the exorbitant prices Charged by resort owned shops. All in all… We’ll be staying in Mt. PLEASANT next time.

Excellent 2-​day stay. Very comfortable in our studio room, included washer & dryer, kitchen & supplies — including dish washer. Short walk to the beach and beautiful pools to take advantage of. Worth a visit.

Walls are paper thin, idiots singing in the hallway, normal conversation in the room next door sounds like a rock concert. Room is nice but not anywhere I would recommend or return to unless I was going to rent a cottage or house where you are not sharing any walls.

To begin, I think time of year must dictate a lot about this place. For the price we paid it was well past a five star rating in value. We had probably more than 1500 sq ft of room (a paired suite with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, big lanai, full kitchen, maple flooring, 5^th floor, $ 260/​night) and it made for a much more forgiving environment with travel-​weary, beach-​happy kids. The beds and sheets and towels were all much higher quality than I expected. Some of the dining room furniture was obviously expensive stuff and really quite nice. Calphalon pans in the kitchen, too. There are parts of the property that are lovely as well and the beach is nice. But then there is just so much that’s head scratching odd, and again, I have to think it was off season so maybe they had the B and C squads working and/​or limited staffing. One of the two people at check in recommended wrong places to park and when our friends’ room wasn’t ready, well that was it, it wasn’t ready, no suggestions on what to do, a comp’ed drink, whatever. Check in is 4 and it was already past 5. Only half of our room was ready. Our rooms were originally in two different buildings and we were willing to pay for an upgrade to get the room we did (really dumb service followed by really good service). No one ever changed the mountain of towels by the pool over two days. There was construction going on in the lobby so stuff was draped but there were no workers around and it resulted in weird ways to the pool (through the restaurant?) and closed bathrooms for the lobby. In our room, the bath tub leaked all over the floor. There was no water pressure in the otherwise really lovely shower. There are a lot of fitness facilities and they had ample med balls and yoga mats which I really appreciated but it was dirty and the cardio equipment 10 – 15 yrs old and laughably squeaky. The water cups were splayed all over the floor. All in all, there were some very big highs and some perplexing «seriously?» experiences. The place was pretty full too so it only made the disinterested attention to the towels and the lobby construction and the awkward check in all the more odd. I would rate our overall experience pretty high; would I recommend it? I dunno.

We stayed at Wild Dunes over Christmas vacation. We loved the condo and location. The complimentary shuttle to the main resort was also very nice. The staff was curteous and helpful. I would’ve given 5 stars but we opted for the oyster/​BBQ on Saturday evening. I expected more than hot dogs with oversized buns and baked chicken lathered in bottled sauce for $ 40 a head. And there should’ve been more sides than tossed salad and mac n cheese. The mac n cheese was tasty though. Should’ve offered something like brisket, ribs, potato salad. The chili didn’t work for me either. I didn’t have oysters, but my sister in law said they were good.

I am a Citadel Grad and know this region fairly well. My parents use to come to Wild Dunes when I was a cadet.
I decided to head back to the area, since I love it so much. I called for reservations which is completely automated at this time. The recording stated that the hold time was 15 – 20 minutes which is long but something I can do. I am now exceeding ONE HOUR HOLD WITH NO HUMAN TO TALK TO. I will NEVER return here to Wild Dunes again.
To anyway thinking of staying here know this:
There are too many nice places stay when you visit the area that is close by.
Everything is close to the water and easy drive to.
Mt Pleasant is closer to town and the beaches are less crowded then Wild Dunes
To the south is Folly Beach which is very family orientated
Sea Brook and Kiawah Island is romantic and has golf.
I am now an about to be 90 minutes of hold without speaking to a soul.

Just an update to this post. It was in fact the housekeeper at Wild Dunes Resort who stole my engagement ring. She had an extensive criminal background that Wild Dunes Resort was clearly not worried about when they hired her to clean their customer’s rooms. I was diligent and lucky enough to have found my engagement ring on Craigslist 2 months after it was stolen from this resort. The housekeeper’s sister had sold it to a pawn shop and they advertised it on Craigslist. The housekeeper was interviewed by Isle
Of Palms police and confessed to stealing my ring. The worst part, she was still employed with Wild Dunes Resort on the day she was arrested. They still had not run a background check. DO NOT EXPECT YOUR PERSONAL ITEMS TO BE SAFE IN THIS RESORT. They hire CRIMINALS to clean their rooms and then claim no responsibility when personal items go missing.

I live permanently in WILD DUNES. It begs the imagination why the food on the resort is so terrible. Charleston is a food centric town and Destination Resorts are too cheap to pay a quality chef, have decent size kitchens or pay their food staff. If you like decent food eat another place off the resort.

I just returned from a bachelorette weekend at Wild Dunes and could not be happier with the resort! We rented a two bedroom condominium and the space was tastefully decorated in true beachy South Carolina fashion which really added to the ambiance for us New York ladies. We appreciated all the little touches in regards to the décor and the amenities that they provided in an attempt to make us as comfortable as possible. The screened in balcony was an especially nice touch, and we were happy to spend our evenings out there chatting without fear of insect bites.
The resort is enormous, and immaculate. The staff was extremely helpful as well. We attempted to check in early, and when the pass code provided didn’t work, they promptly sent management to open the door for us. Wonderful service! The view of the pool and beach were awesome and getting around was very easy. Would return again and again.

For breakfast for 4 is crazy, very pricey for what you get… drinks alittle overpriced also.

I I am giving it one star just because of the stupid rule they have at their pools. There is a 15 minute stretch of every hour where they require all of the children to get out of the pool for «adult swim». All that does is frustrate the adults because the kids get irritated. There are never any adults in the pool by themselves. This is a family resort, no?

First time at Wild Dunes. Stayed at OceanWatch condos. Appt 425 bldg D. Absolutely loved it. Never ever expected the quality and view. Awesome furnishings great view. I had friends that rented a house and didn’t have the conviniences we had no worries about purchasing laundry detergent or trash bags those crazy thing u always have to get when u rent a condo. They really thought of everthing. The view was awesome and all the amenities on th resort great as well. Highly recommend…

We had a lot of family coming to town, so we decided to rent a house instead of a bunch of hotel rooms. We didn’t use the amenities provided by Wild Dunes Resort, but we really liked being so close to the beach. We tried to dine at the Sea Island Grill & Lounge, but that didn’t work out, and is covered by its own review.
We had a six-​bedroom house that was very nice and had plenty of room. The kitchen was huge, and we really enjoyed sitting out on the screen porch. However, our bed was very uncomfortable, and each day, I woke up with a worse backache than the day before. By the time we left, I was in a lot of pain.
Another reviewer noted that the Wild Dunes staff seemed polite, but were inefficient and lacking in follow-​up, and that was our experience, too. The stairs to the front door were very steep and narrow, and with the porch light burned out, it was impossible to see in the dark. I called the services desk and explained that it was a safety hazard, and they promised to take care of it immediately. After calling twice more, I gave up and got a flashlight.

Overall, I didn’t enjoy my stay here mainly because of a few things…

Room: our room wasn’t as trendy and modern as many of the other rooms we visited. Our room also had a set back. The entire stay the living room side door wouldn’t lock nor securely close. We phoned the staff at he front desk to notify them of our dilemma and they told us here was nothing they could do for tonight and to out a chair under the door to feel safe. 0_​o
I went to speak to a manager the next day because the problem still persisted they sent a maintenance man to take a look and «confirm» what we were saying as true. The maintenance man confirmed then told us that they would speak to their manager and come fix the issue. They never returned till this day and we check out tomorrow. We slept here with unlocked doors for over 3 nights with our valuables in the room unprotected and nothing was done.
I would not recommend this stay to any loved one for the protection. I would rather spend my money in a low budget hotel at comes with efficient workers and can assure safety.

I came here for a wedding, and it was awesome! It had the feel of a resort, but you could do beach or pool. Our hotel room was a 2BR suite which we shared with another couple we knew invited to the wedding. The place was well stocked with a full kitchen and two bathrooms. Beautiful furniture and beach decorations. I would highly recommend coming here.
The food on the resort left a lot to be desired, but that is OK. We are about 15 – 20 min drive from downtown Charleston. There are a bunch of little shops (clothing and such and such) located in the central area of the hotels. I forgot to pack a swimsuit cover up and easily got one at one of the stores. If you are a guest, you get a discount. My husband and I went to the spa and got massages. Great spa service!
The beach is simply amazing. The sand is literally flat. You could wear sneakers on the beach and go running. Gentle on the toes while you are out on the beach since you don’t have to worry about small stones.
I will be coming back to this place!!!

Crowded and also traffic can be bad on peak hours. There are 2 gates to enter the community, the main gate at 41^st st and another one that closes after 8pm.
Observe speed limits .
The queue to enter the wild dunes community can be delayed due to people picking up passes.
In our case we were housed at port o call. a condo community within WD.
