Specialties
Traditional rustic Tuscan cuisine, staying genuine to true Italian concepts, through house-made pastas, sustainable fish, and simple ingredients.
History
Established in 2010.
The building that now houses Verace has been a landmark in the Hamlet of Islip for 100 years. For many years it housed the local florist, then Doxsee Insurance and lastly Pocket Full of Posies and finally purchased by the Bohlsen Restaurant Group.
The Bohlsen Restaurant Group purchased the building in 2008 and began preparations for an authentic Italian restaurant. The architectural concept is created around respecting the tradition of classic Italian architecture, but infusing cutting edge design and modern product.

John, Michael and Kurt B.
Business Owner
The Bohlsen family began in the restaurant business in 1931 with a little coffee shop in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn. Herman Bohlsen, his wife Hilda, and his brother Gerhardt, ran the shop until 1938.
John Bohlsen, son of Herman, bought his first fast food restaurant in Deer Park in 1969 after earning his Master’s Degree in Business and serving as an officer in the US Navy during the Vietnam era for four years. He remained in the fast food business until 1983 when he sold his 50-plus restaurants.
In 1987 John purchased the Beachtree Café and from 1999 to the present proceeded to design and construct four restaurants along with his two sons, Michael and Kurt, for the next generation of restaurants in the «Bohlsen Restaurant Group” — Tellers An American Chophouse, H2O: Seafood & Sushi, Prime: An American Kitchen and Bar, Verace: True Italian and their latest addition, Monsoon: Steak & Sushi.
