Specialties

Cornell Orchards (Orchards, Fruit Farm & Vineyards) is a primary research and education facility for the Department of Horticulture in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. We operate two orchards, one just off campus in Ithaca, NY, and the other about 15 miles north in Lansing, NY, on the shore of Cayuga Lake. Between the two, we grow apples, pears, peaches, plums, grapes, cherries, blueberries, hardy kiwi, and paw paws. Our storage and packing facilities, cider and grape pressing operations, teaching winery, as well as post-harvest lab and retail store are located at the Ithaca orchard. Free apple and cider samples, as well as complimentary hot cider (during winter months) are available for customers to try. Also sold in the store are Cornell maple syrup, Cornell sheep blankets, honey and a variety of specialty food and gift items from the Finger Lakes region and New York State. Retail store is open mid-August to May.

Great place to visit. It’s a bit hard to find because google maps leads you to an industrial power plant when you input the address. It’s basically past the Vet School on the other side of the road… it’s a building with a giant apple on it, so you can’t really miss it.
There was a huge variety of apples and pears when I went. Pretty cool that they have a basket with just loose apples and pears that you’re free to pick up and chomp on before buying. Lots of variety.
They also have a lot of very rare, hard to buy fruits here. Call ahead and they can reserve some for you at a very reasonable price. Lots of other cool items (maple syrup, goat milk soaps, honeys, etc).

I have always loved the Cornell Apple Orchard. It’s one of my must go to places whenever I come home. The apples are always better than what I can get at any grocery store and their apple cider is delicious! They sell other fruits and vegetables as well as maple syrup and apparel.

It’s places like these that remind me that Cornell is a land-grant institution as well as private university. Actually, I’m not sure whether land-grant has anything to do with awesome orchard store, but I associate all things on the east end of campus with small-town, rustic goodness that I’ve never seen before in California.
This place is a bit of a hike from central campus (maybe 1 – 1.5 miles from the student store), but TCAT can take you pretty close if you get off at the Vet School. The store carries a lot of local jams, jellies, syrups, and candies. I got some nut brittle and some wine jelly as well as some maple candy. Here you can also pick up a peck of apples (in dizzying variety) or sample/buy their famous cider. (The pear flavor is delicious.)
Another favorite item here is wool blankets from Cornell’s sheep farm (of course Cornell has a sheep farm!). The blankets are created at MacAusland’s Mills. More on them here:

Free apple samples. It is pretty awesome when my friend and I intentionally finish our run at the orchard. We eat many apple samples to rehydrate. The apples are top notch, and they usually offer discounts on select varieties every day. They also have a neat selection of mustards, apple butters, and cider. I don’t drink cider but my boyfriend is a fan, and I can use them for baking too.

The Cornell orchards is a great place if you like apples, and other fruits. What I love about the orchard is when fall comes and they start making there apple cider. You haven’t tried cider if you haven’t had cornell’s cider. I think its the best around. I usually don’t go there until cider time nothing else really interests me. (good apples).

Great orchard. There are so many apples to sample and they used to give out free cups of great unpasteurized cider, although they stopped a while ago. The regular cider is good too. They sell all sorts of other things besides apples though, like shirts and other things… [that are listed in the other review.] It’s pretty cool, half the building is the store, and you can also see the apple sorting machines and other large metal devices. Sometimes you can see employees sorting apples, that’s always worth checking out (if only for a few minutes).

This is the place to get apples!!! You can sample many varieties before buying… pick up some outstanding maple syrup too!
