Stiehl’s Body Modification

I go to Cornell and wanted some new piercings so I went to Stiehl’s where I was pierced by Robert, an intern, who must have been inexperienced. Maybe the other piercers here are better, but the fact that they let him pierce me is an issue.
I got three piercings, two lobes and a helix. I cleaned them everyday as Stiehl’s instructed me too, but I had still been having trouble for a month so when I went home I visited a popular local piercer. He showed me how crooked my (also infected) helix piercing was and took it out because it was probably never going to heal properly. He also changed out my two lobe piercings to titanium earrings because I was having an allergic reaction to the original studs. They were both two short for my earlobes and the metal was probably not great quality or not sterilized properly because I have an infection in both lobes.
BOTTOM LINE: I was left with three infections, scar tissue in my removed helix piercing, and I will not be recommending this place to anyone.

I got a helix piercing here a few months ago. The piercing itself was okay: everything was sterile and clean. However, the jewelry selection is lacking. I asked Stiehl’s to order an earring for me twice (!), but those orders «never went through,» meaning they never placed them or sold the jewelry to someone else.

I’ve gotten my nose and belly button pierced here. It’s great how they explain the sterilizing process and they are very clean. On the down side they are kind of pricey and the employees can be up tight sometimes. when I was picking out a nose ring the man behind the counter kept walking away when I wanted to ask a question which led to a hassle because the nose rings I would pick would either be too big or too small

I wish I could have had the experience that others have had. I went in twice to discuss the tattoo I wanted, and was told I’d get a call when the drawing was done… I was never called :(Which is too bad, because I was really ready to get this tattoo.

I can’t say enough great things about Stiehl’s. The weekend of January 18^th, I went with 3 others to get tattoos. We emailed the prior Tuesday and they were amazing working with our schedule and getting us in right away. Amanda, who coordinated the appointment times and tattoo design, was extremely helpful, friendly, and accommodating through the entire process. We had our tattoos done by Todd K., and he was absolutely incredible. All four tattoos look perfect, and he was beyond patient with us as we deliberated about size, location, and design. If you’re looking for a tattoo I would highly suggest Stiehl’s. The studio is also extremely clean, well-​organized, and has a staff of extremely welcoming individuals. Prices were also very reasonable. Highly suggested!

GREAT place. I highly recommend. I’ve had 6 piercings done here and 1 tattoo and I can’t say I would go anywhere else. The piercers and tattoo artists walk you through everything that they’re doing to make sure you’re knowledgable, know what they’re doing, and know that they’re keeping everything clean and sterile for you to avoid any infections. They always give you what you need to clean your new tattoos or piercings which is included in the price of the piercing.
If you have any questions about your new piercing you can walk right in or email them. They always respond pretty quickly to emails and if you provide all the details they know exactly how to answer it.
Its a very clean and sterile place. Needles are brand new for each customer and jewelry is always cleaned before use. If you’re in the area, go. Everyone that works there is super friendly and knows what they’re doing!

I get all my piercings here (have gotten my tragus, rook, and nose piercings done here). It’s very clean, and they explain the sterilization process and whatnot before any piercing. I’ve never had any issue with my piercings and I’d go back in a heartbeat. I’m sure it’s a bit more expensive than other locations, but you get what you pay for…
…also, 9 times out of 10, the staff there has really been great. On the rare occasion, you get someone at the front desk/​greeting area who isn’t so nice or pleasant with folks… but it’s a rarity.
All that said, I’ve heard mixed reviews about the tattooing side of things (not cleanliness, but people being happy with the work they had done). I’ve never gotten a tattoo here, so I can’t speak for any of the work… but I’d definitely recommend looking over portfolios and making sure you’re on the same page as your artist. You want to ensure you’re happy with whatever you get inked.

Got my tragus pierced here the first month I got to Cornell (August 2012). A bit pricey for a tragus piercing — I believe it was around $ 60, but it was worth it. Dan pierced it for me and was very friendly — telling me about how he met his wife at a bar and they’ve been living happily after ever since, running the shop. It was definitely one of my more painful piercings, but he was very swift about it. He even offered to explain how he was going to carry out the process until I stopped him because blood and stuff like that makes me uncomfortable. He showed me how everything was clean and sterile, and made this experience a great one! Highly recommend for piercings, at least in Ithaca.

The piercing might hurt but the experience at Stiehl’s is absolutely painless!
I got a triple piercing on my front helix done here. It’s a more uncommon piercing but when I called to ask about it they knew exactly what they were talking about so I felt very confident choosing them. When I walked in everyone was very nice, the place is very clean, and everyone was very knowledgeable. A guy explained the after care procedure very thoroughly and answered every question I had.
Sarah did my piercing and she was AWESOME. She was very relaxed and assured me everything would go fine, she chatted with me to help me calm down, and explained the procedure carefully and patiently. She marked the holes on my ear a few times to make sure they’d be absolutely perfect which was reassuring too. Although the piercing hurt (I’m a baby with needles/​pain) she kept saying, «You’re doing great!» and even got me a piece of candy and a cup of water halfway through when I started feeling woozy. When she finished she said I could chill as long as I needed to, I never felt like she was rushing me out to get to the next customer.
The piercing itself looks GORGEOUS. It’s exactly how I pictured it would look. It’s difficult getting the 3 piercings to line up right but Sarah got it perfect. The whole process went flawlessly and I would recommend Stiehl’s to everyone!

This place was just as good people say.
Three of us walked in on a weekday afternoon for nose piercings. The staff skillfully tag teamed to work with all of us and answer our questions. Everything throughout the entire process, from filling out paperwork to choosing jewelry to the piercing itself was explained patiently and thoroughly, which made us feel more confident and less nervous. (Yes, it hurt but only for a few minutes and my friend was not given the right color stud she’d chosen — so to speak — but they gave her another for free several days later.) Clean, comfortable, professional, with only quality jewelry. It’s obvious that the owners and the staff love their work and strive to create a family ambiance among themselves. I sensed they enjoy their clients, also.
At the end of the visit we were asked how we came to know about their business and I referenced the many « Unilocal» accolades. The owner (forgot his name) was completely unaware of the“Yelp” props, the «Best of Ithaca» rating. Maybe someone will show him?
The aftercare brochure we received says «Welcome to your new addiction.» This just may actually be true — who knows? I felt pampered like I’d had a massage.

I got my tongue pierced and two tattoos at Stiehl’s and I probably wouldn’t recommend anywhere else on the planet to get either. I no longer live in Ithaca, and still wait until I visit to even consider a tattoo or piercing not just because of the wonderful craftsmanship, but because of the relaxing atmosphere and AWESOME staff there, too.
I am probably the biggest baby when it comes to needles, but Ron and Jim made me feel completely at ease when I got my tongue and tattoos done, which made the process a whole lot easier for everybody (and I would settle for anybody who worked there, too.) The shop is clean and laid out very well, and the staff is welcoming and down-​to-​earth, not just there to make a buck. They are truly great at what they do.
Although I (regrettably) didn’t get my tragus done at Stiehl’s, Dawn still helped me change my piercing out free-​of-​charge, something I wouldn’t have been able to do myself. They are equally welcoming to newcomers and tattoo/​piercing enthusiasts alike, so if you’ve never been do not hesitate to stop in. Out of any place of business I’ve ever been to, this is definitely an ideal example of customer service and all-​around customer experience.

Stiehl’s staff are the friendliest, professional, and most knowledgeable people ever. They are thorough, safe, clean, and extremely courteous. My best friend and I got our belly buttons pierced here, and I’m so happy I did.
Even though I have several piercings, the nervous feeling I get right before getting pierced never goes away. Dawn did the piercings for both me and my friend, and she was so nice and calming. She talked to us during the process and made us laugh, making us forget about the fact that we were even getting it done.
Stiehl’s always uses needles to do their piercings, which is the safest way. It allows for the quickest healing. Dawn explained everything so thoroughly and even explained proper procedures for our future reference if we went to other places and how to verify that things are safe and clean. After our piercings, we were given salt to clean our piercings and pamphlets with information on how to properly clean the piercing and jewelry.
I’ve even come here because I needed help loosening my piercings, and they were so nice and non-​judgmental about it. I also expected some kind of charge since they technically did a service for me, but they did it for free and with a smile on their face.
The whole place is very clean. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get a piercing in the Ithaca area. The prices are reasonable and totally worth it because of the excellent service and care they give you.

I had previously gotten my cartilage pierced at Piercing Pagoda at the Ithaca Mall. BAD idea. They used a gun instead of a needle and the piercing never really healed. My ear was always in pain (couldn’t sleep on that side of the head) and I also think it may have gotten infected. Either way, I took it out and the hole closed relatively quickly.
I had come to Stiehl’s back in June or July of 2008 to accompany a friend who was getting tattoos on his feet (ouch!). I was impressed with the overall establishment, so I went back in August or September of 2010 to re-​do my cartilage (on my other ear). The entire establishment is friendly and professional. The downstairs waiting room is spacious and you can just sit or browse through their display cases.
The woman who did my piercing (sorry, I forgot her name :() was extremely friendly and informative. The first thing she asked was, «How do you know if the needle/​gun that is being used is safe?». I told her «You don’t» and she was like, «Precisely!»
She then told me more about proper piercing/​tattoo safety, which I definitely appreciated. I could tell that this place really makes an effort to keep everything sterile. Their equipment is sterilized, their rooms look like actual doctor rooms, and the whole atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. I paid about $ 30 (more or less?) for my piercing, which I think is very reasonable for the quality of the job done.
After my piercing, the receptionist gave me instructions on post-​piercing handling and care and I left the place feeling super satisfied with their service. My piercing healed pretty quickly and it looks great!
I’d highly recommend this place to anyone.

Awesome piercing/​tattoo parlor! I got my nose pierced here and my second earring hole pierced. I highly recommend this place. Immaculately clean, super professional, and family business– the owners are the piercers. I don’t know anyone who got tattoos here, but I trust Stiehl’s. They did a great job with my piercings and threw in that special soap and an extra bag of salt to wash my piercings. I’ll never go anywhere else again.

Granted I don’t know any other tattoo places in the nearby area, this place is the best by default. The place is huge and downstairs is the piercing area. My friend and I made our way up the stairs to the tattoo parlor/​section. We perused the magazines and various pictures of tattoos, but had already decided what we were getting.
I wanted two stars on my wrists originally smaller than the size of a dime, but the tattoo artist said the smallest they go is about dollar coin size. I got on both wrists, and ended up paying the base price of $ 80.
The place is very clean-​looking and sterile. Whenever I see tattoo parlors in movies, it’s always in the dingiest/​sketchiest places. Luckily, Stiehl’s was nothing like that. Everything is wrapped in sterile packaging until needed. The tentative drawing of my tattoo was placed on my arm to use as a guideline for the artist. He shaved the area (standard practice, even though I don’t have a hairy wrist or anything) and got going. It was less painful than I was expecting, except when it got sort of closer to my hands, upper wrist. Other than that, the experience was pretty pleasant. My tattoo had some crackly, un-​inked parts along the border of the star after the initial two weeks or so of basic tattoo care, so my friend and I went back to get our tattoos touched up. They offer up to 3 free visits of re-​touching, which is really nice.
I would definitely recommend this place if you live in Ithaca. Very friendly and helpful staff, and most important of all, sterile technique is practiced here.

Stiehl’s is fantastic. The owners are professional, friendly, and above all else, driven to provide the most sanitary, safe, and pleasant piercing experience possible.
I’ve had a few piercings done at Stiehl’s, and they have also helped me increase the gauge on one piercing and unscrew a stubborn barbell. Their prices are reasonable for the services they offer. Your health and safety are worth the price!
I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a new piercing!

Got a tattoo here a few years ago with a friend. We both wanted small tattoos (size of a nickel or dime) but the tattoo artist we talked to said that there was a minimum size because of something about «warping» and designs not «working» or looking as good if it was too small. I didn’t quite understand that, as he was tattooed up pretty generously and he had plenty of «smaller» things that didn’t look bad, but I wasn’t going to argue with the «expert.»
All in all, it was a pleasant experience. The guy told us that if we were dissatisfied with the tattoo after the «scabs» had healed, that we were allowed to come back 3 times for modifications (including if you wanted to add some minor things to your design).
Prices were reasonable, though I don’t really have an idea of other prices to compare to. We paid in the range of $ 80 for our small tattoos (and I believe that was the base price). If you pay with a credit card, they attach a small fee, I guess to cover the credit card fees they have to deal with themselves.

This place is great. I had my septum pierced at Stiehl’s in July.
First, the girl at the front was really nice and helpful answering my scads of questions. I was quickly taken into an immaculate piercing room where I met Dawn, my piercer. She was very informative; she taught me how to recognize whether a package of supplies has or has not been sterilized. She was very nice, too, and really put me at ease. The piercing occurred without problem or much pain at all. After it was finished, they didn’t sell me any expensive piercing cleaners; instead, they just gave me a bag of salts.
The total came to $ 60 – totally fair for the service and goods rendered. It makes me want to get something else pierced, just so that I can go back!

The only place in town that should be doing your piercings and tattoos.
I got all 15 of my piercings done there. They absolutely know what they’re doing and they do a great job.
Well worth the money!

After almost going to the Piercing Pagoda to get some more piercings (I already had the regular lobes done) at Pyramid Mall, I am incredibly glad that I trusted word of mouth and my own intuition. Believe me, this is how a piercing place should be: clean and sterile yet homey and open. There were couches and plants for you to get comfortable, but the actual piercing takes place in what almost looks like the doctor’s room.
It was Ron who pierced my second left lobe and two on the right helix, telling me what he was doing and what to do once he pierced me («Breathe!»). He was fatherly without being overbearing. Dawn was motherly without being overbearing as well when I wasn’t sure whether to go for an industrial or two helix piercings on my right ear. She was the one who recommended the latter, and I took her advice. I do not regret it one bit. They give discounts if you get three ear piercings. It would normally be $ 75, but they gave a steep discount of $ 60 to me. Yes, the jewelry is pricey, along with the process itself, but you’re paying for something worthwhile that they take care of meticulously.
