Trader K’s 2

Decent place to buy clothes — there’s a lot of cheap brands to sort through but they do sometimes have some gems if you take the time to look. They say they only sell name brands, but this includes Kohl’s, Wal-​Mart, and a lot of other low quality items. However, if you are looking to sell anything, do not even bother. They took an entire garbage bag full of clothing and purses (a lot in the Seven/​Lucky/​Liz Claiborne range) and offered me $ 7 in cash or $ 13 in trade (although on their website they say they give you 40−55% of what they will sell it for). I was in a rush so took it, but seriously, the tax write-​off bringing it to the Salvation Army would have been a better decision. This particular experience was at Trader K’s 2 so I’m posting it here, but I’ve had similar experiences at the original on the Commons.

Listen, I understand that it’s the end of the school year and that all of the Ithaca College and Cornell University students are trying to offload their extra stuff, but I’m pretty sure this is A GOOD THING for the shop and doesn’t warrant extreme rudeness. When I stopped in this afternoon, the store was completely empty except for the two girls behind the counter. I dragged in my two garbage bags full of old clothes and was promptly ignored for a few minutes while they finished chit chatting with each other. When one of them finally acknowledged my presence, I was snootily told that they were only accepting one bag of clothes per person per day and that I should have called ahead before bringing my two bags in. Um… okay…thanks for that info. So I dragged one back to the car and then waited 15 minutes for her to sort through the other one while she sighed dramatically the entire time. Geez honey, so sorry for the inconvenience that I’ve caused you…
On the bright side, I ended up with some cash back for the clothes that I traded in, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I’ll be back there again on Friday with my second bag of clothes and, fingers crossed, I’ll be treated with a little more respect.
