Description

Specialties

Bella Luna & The Milky Way Lounge is a beloved neighborhood gathering spot in the heart of Jamaica Plain, offering edgy American cuisine, delicious cocktails, American Craft beers, plus entertainment inside the historic Haffenreffer Brewery building. Our colorful retro-sci-fi décor sets the tone for fun, as do the pool table, giant wall-sized Connect 4 game, Galaga/Ms. Pac Man, and occasionally Wii Bowling on our big screen. After dinner stay for the evening’s entertainment, the most diverse in Boston, with trivia, karaōke, film screenings, live jazz, latin dancing every Saturday, live bands, and DJ dance nights (check listings at milkywayjp.com) While there is plenty to do, it is our food that wins over first time customers and turns them into regulars, from our world’s best calamari, famous gourmet pizza, over-sized meatballs, generous unique salads, vegan and seafood specials, and homemade desserts. Our menu is creative, seasonal and affordable.

History

Established in 1993.

Bella Luna Restaurant opened in Hyde Square/JP in November 1993 as a 19-seat restaurant serving salads, sandwiches and gourmet pizza. Initially started as an economic development project by co-owners Pierre Apollon, Carol Downs, Katherine Mainzer and Charlie Rose, our goal was to serve delicious food while creating secure jobs, improving the safety of the Hyde Square neighborhood, and re-investing our resources back into the neighborhood. In 1999 we renovated the JP Bowl bowling alley underneath our location and created The Milky Way Lounge & Lanes, a unique venue combining dinner, entertainment, and candelpin bowling. In 2009 we re-located our concept (without the bowling lanes) to the historic Haffenreffer Brewery Complex at 284 Amory Street in Jamaica Plain and became Bella Luna Restaurant & The Milky Way Lounge, where we continue to bring people together to enjoy delicious food and cocktails, local art & music while generating resources for the improvement of Boston.
