Only been here twice, and I’m so pumped this place moved in. So far everything seems delicious and/or promising.

Great tacos, all fillings. The shrimp quesadilla is gooey and delicious but not too oily. The red sauce that comes with tacos is very tasty with a little kick. Food always comes out fast too. A great take out place when you don’t feel like cooking. I have been here twice and look forward to coming back!

This place is great! I am very picky about my Mexican food, having spent a year in Mexico. The horchata is great! The corn was not quite like I had on the street in Mexico, but it was still very tasty. I also ordered a tostada, and it was great too. I can’t wait until they start delivering! Please? It’s not an ideal spot to park if you are driving home from work…

If I lived closer it would definitely be a go to place, the food is fast, service is great, and it tastes delicious. The place itself is pretty small with limited seating of less than 10 bar stools by the window. When it gets busy, it gets busy packed but luckily everyone fits. The service is very fast and the staff is friendly and knows what you ordered. The tacos are really tasty, except a little small, but just means you gotta buy more and try at least one of each. The tacos are $ 2.99 each. The tacos I had were carnitas, lengua, papas con chorizo, fish, and carde asada. My favorites are carnitas and lengua(beef tongue). The carne asada didn’t have enough flavor for me and I only wished that the fish tacos was fried rather than grilled, it was a little too mushy for me. The papas con chorizo was just okay. I also had a few bites from a carnitas burrito which was really good. Will come back whenever I’m craving tacos!

Really really really delicious. Tastes fresh. Perfectly priced and good location if you are an Orange-liner.(not great parking situation — probably a testament to how good it is, can’t ever find a spot). I went with two friends and we all got different things — taco looked amazing and my friend ate it VERY quickly(wishes she got more than one, though). Quesadilla was not only good but they package it in a way that makes it a meal which is awesome. Burrito was DELICIOUS. I’ve been craving it all week but am holding myself back — otherwise I’d be there every day after work. Considering I used to live around the corner from the Coolidge Corner Anna’s, me saying this is REALLYGOOD should mean something. Now… if only they delivered. Enjoy!

Everything is so great about this place! The people who worked there were so friendly and welcoming. I didn’t catch his name but the man who worked at the register was super friendly and made conversation with everyone. The place itself is clean and colorful. The food was also amazing! I’m so excited to return!

I’m hopeful this place can work out the kinks. PROS: –I love that this place opened… JPNEEEEEDS decent tacos. –Service is friendly and quick. –the little tacos are pretty damn good… most of the time –the shrimp tacos are a solid choice CONS: –the cafeteria style of preparation makes for consistantly cold tacos –quality/execution varies by night –the carne asada is a crapshoot… if fresh, it’s great! otherwise is dry, overcooked, and cold –HONESTLY, little tacos like this place serves should not be so expensive. REQUEST: –I realize you don’t have space/time to make your own tortillas, but you guys really need to start heating/toasting them! It would make a huge difference!

The best Mexican food in the Boston area. The tacos are outstanding. The roasted corn is outstanding. Salsas are outstanding. Kind of an odd space on the inside, not a lot of room to move around. But this is more of a take out place anyway. Best addition to the neighborhood in a long time.

Small enchilada/taco/burrito type spot in a residential part of JP. Very easy casual environment; good for single dining or duo. l or for takeout. Several window front high top seats but no tables, just so you know… The torta asada was amazing(don’t ask abt calories, this is one worth enjoying), and the aqua frescas are lightly sweet and refreshing. Staff was down to earth, helpful to us as we bumbled our way through the menu as first timers, and food was prepared quickly. I’ll be back!!!

I really like the authentic, neighborhood feel of this little restaurant. I was expecting to be blown away based on other reviews, but sadly I was not. We only ordered tacos: carne asada, carnitas, lengua, and fish. They weren’t bad by any means; the meat was pretty tender and tasted fine but wasn’t as tasty as I expected. However I have to knock off stars for the price to portion ratio. Tacos were a lot smaller than I expected even at $ 2.99/taco. They were probably smaller than the size of my hand(and I have pretty small hands), with only one tortilla. There also wasn’t much meat that came with it. I ate three of the tacos and was still hungry. I would probably have to eat at least 5 – 6 to be full. They might be better as appetizers. The staff were really friendly and welcoming though. I just wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. Street parking was a little tricky at night.

Chilacates easily gets 5-stars for their rave-worthy food and amazing service(Thanks, Socrates!). The boyfriend and I walked out of lunch already thinking about which family and friends we want to bring here! First of all, the food is so delicious. I got the smallest size(chavito) grilled shrimp quesadilla and the chavito-sized burrito with carnitas. The grilled shrimp quesadilla was especially delicious – ooey, gooey melted cheese with flavorful and tender grilled shrimp. Despite the cute smallness(which was perfect for getting to try out two different items on the menu), I was perfectly full and satisfied. Next time, I’ll probably just get the grilled shrimp quesadilla in a larger size! My boyfriend started with 3 tacos: al pastor(thin cut slices of roasted pork marinated in annatto and pineapple), lengua(beef tongue), and a lamb special of the day. He raved about all three, especially the al pastor and lengua, and ordered two more of the lengua. We also got to try the elote(Mexican street corn) for the first time and were both really taken with it! It’s hard to describe the mix of savory, sweet, buttery, cheesy flavors but it was fantastic! Granted we’re not Mexican food connoisseurs, but both of us were so blown away with the food and agreed that it was some of the best Mexican food we’ve had, especially in Boston. Despite it being a grab-and-go kind of place, the service is also 5 stars, for sure. Socrates really went out of his way to take good care of us. We can’t wait to be back(asap)!

–Located in the innards of JP, not exactly easy to get to unless you’re near Stony Brook T station or you live in JP. –Seating is minimal, less than 10 seats available, bar stool seating. –No skimping on fillings, but their elote and fillings are not noticeably hot/freshly cooked compared to Lone Star; this is literally a grab and go deal. ++Tacos are cheaper than Lone Star in Allston. $ 2.99 a piece unless you’re ordering a shrimp/fish taco, to which they charge another $ 1. For 5 different tacos + 1 elote(grilled corn) + coke= ~$ 22. ++Their red hot sauce provided in small cups is the bomb Online menu=

This place is SUCH an awesome addition to the neighborhood. Socrates is super friendly, and clearly cares about his customers and the quality of his food. The tacos are tasty, though I’m not a huge fan of the tortillas(they’re a little chewy). The torta is FANTASTIC and a really great value. The meats and accoutrement are all delicious. Can’t wait to try everything else, especially their breakfast menu.

Everyone else has pretty much covered it. Really delicious tacos. I tried the chicken tynga, al pastor, carne asada, grilled chicken(on accident… they messed up the order but still let me keep this), shrimp, and grilled fish. I also had the corn I loved the chicken tynga and grilled fish tacos. The grilled chicken was okay… I wouldn’t ever order that(but maybe because the chicken tynga was just SO good). The corn was whatever… I’ve had better. I went back and forth and decided to knock off a star because at the end of the day, it’s too pricey. It’s hard because I can tell they use fresh ingredients and yes, their corn tortilla is uh-mayyyy-zing… I get that we’re not in Mexico but when I was in Mexico I had like 20 tacos for $ 1(okay maybe a little more.) and of course as good as this place is, it can’t beat tacos in Mexico where they pile on so much meat topped with like half an avocado.

This place was great. I ordered their shrimp quesadilla and it was so delicious. My favorite part was the friendly staff. The ladies were so nice and were willing to give me extra sauce free of charge. Their hot sauce actually tasted like Mexican hot sauce!

Chill-uh-coh-tez This is officially my neighborhood go-to for Mexican food and service. I was able to visit this lovely establishment on #nationaltacoday, and boy did they not disappoint. Caution: this place is relatively small, you will most likely be squished waiting in line, but its beyond worth it. Order: Taco de asada: steak was perfectly grilled, not too crispy or dry Taco de al pastor: marinated grilled juicy beef topped with mango salsa Taco de lengua: beef tounge=delicious All the tacos were topped with cilantro, chopped onions, lime, and an assortment of both their habanero salsa and avocado green salsa. The cashier turned out to be one of the owners, he made it has task to get know us as he is also a JP resident. We became such great friends that he gave us all a plate of elotes(corn on the cob, Mexcian style), they were sweet, tender, juicy, cheesy, and we topped them off with chile! Chilacates is out of this world, Mexican authenticity in Jamaica Plain has arrived.

What a hidden gem! Went here around 2 in the afternoon so their was no wait. I got 3 tacos: carnitas, al pastor, and chicken tinga. Every taco comes with white onions, cilantro, hot salsa, and green tomatillo salsa and its served on a soft corn tortilla shell. The carnitas was easily my favorite, very flavorful and tender. The chicken tinga was still very good. Just the right amount of spice. Finally the Al pastor was my least favorite, it’s served with pineapple which I personally thought made the taco too sweet. Very delicious tacos, definitely recommend going coming here. The person working the front counter was also super friendly.

Super delicious!!! Very fresh, not overly fussy, very yummy. They have more vegetarian options that are not noted on the chalkboard menu. They’ll make any combo of vegetarian tacos for you, including nopales(cactus), jicama, beans, corn etc. They also have horchata, real cane sugar Fanta and Coke, pineapple soda and many other drinks. They are super friendly and helpful, and the food was super well priced. This is my favorite new addition to Jamaica Plain! We will be back for sure.

This place is great. I had a chicken burrito tonight. The burrito I had definitely unseats Ana’s as the best I’ve ever had in Boston. It tasted smokey like it had been cooked over an open flame. My wife had their true specialty: the torta. I had a bite and immediately regretted getting the burrito(though my burrito was good, the torta was out of this world). I HIGHLY recommend this place. Some constructive suggestions: — they should change the floor plan a tad to accommodate the swinging of the entry door into the back of the customer at the register — they should also add Foodler, Seamless, Unilocal,Grubhub, and other delivery services to really get the word out and eventually open a location on Centre St(where they can take that horrible Purple Cactus out of business).

Okay I think this is the best taco in boston. I’ve never had a grilled fish taco here but the one I had here, topped with pineapple salsa, has made me a permanent fan. My dining companion also liked the el pastor taco. The corn side was good too but not unique, as it wasn’t different from the other taquerias I have tried it. I always thought Jamaica Plain was far and inaccessible, but this location is just down the street from the Orange Line Stony Brook stop, so do not fear, downtown commuters. The owner, Socrates, is a very friendly and sociable guy and he was more than happy to talk to us about his food. Everyone who works there is family, and he’s all about the food! Also gave us horchata and hibiscus juice on the house, yes! I will definitely be back!
