I wanted to take my mother a home cooked meal, so I come here. This is real food. Yes over the years the food has changed but the foundation of good food has remained the same. I personally do not like sweet collard greens. However, the oxtails are oh so tender by being prepared individually and just simmer until it’s falling off the bone. The tilapia was steamed just right with tomatoes and onions. If grilled Salmon is on the menu, give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing! Best Mac and Cheese money can buy. They offer so many choices from meats/fish to side dishes to desserts. Line that was our the door on a Sunday evening moved fast. Employees are very organized and the place is clean. Opened 7 days a week! Prices are very reasonable based on the amount of food they give you, I had my leftovers for lunch the next day and it tasted just as good. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great home meal cooked with a Jamaican and Southern flair. Thumbs UP!

Oxtail dinners and rib dinners are amazing with their rice and beans and sweet corn. Portions are large!

In the vastness of ny, Jamaica queens really lacks places where u could get the very best. However after eating here many times I have to say that the food is authentic to the area. The BBQ sauce here is nice and sweet, definitely not bottled sauce. If it is bottled I would like to buy me one of those. I my favorite is the chopped pork(stripped). It’s very tasty. The ribs are really good in taste however it could be a slight bit more tender because I rather it falling off the bone. But it isn’t tough. The sides are southern style. This place I think needs a bit of a makeover. The employees are caribbean, I am from the Caribbean so I don’t expect it to be like a fast food joint. Pricing is a little high but the lunch special is a steal at 5.99 with 1 side, 1 meat, corn bread and a drink. The place cam use a bit of an upgrade to the menu on the walls and the look. Has lots of potential

3 Words: Dis Ain’t It! I really wanted to like this place and food. Especially since a good friend of mine was raving about how they have the best ribs in town. Just know he got an earful after the first meal I’ve had from this place. I read the reviews but I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. Lol. I was hoping the negative reviews came from people with broken taste buds. but na. ya’ll were right. This aint it.

Mac n cheese is like soup. Not really to my liking. To each there own. I have had southern food and being from the south I can describe what this taste like. I know I wouldn’t eat there again. It was $ 8 and change not to big of a loss. So, I will take that. I will learn if a place is empty it’s for a reason. I’m going to stick with what I know for now on.

This place isn’t bad. Food is a little pricey and the portions are big. Take out place only

Place has been here for years, first time I ate here was close to 30 years ago. Guys running it now couldn’t hold a candle. Food quality went down the tubes, you all know that but the service was what surprised me the last couple times I went in. You would never be ignored or spoken rudely to «in the day» so the first time I figured I was reading into it. But the 2nd time? Ignored for almost 10 minutes while guys are in the back chatting it and joking, wow you really must be not needing my business. So no problem, you don’t get it any more.

The current state of «The RIBSHACK», as we Queens natives refer to it, is a FAR, FAR cry of how this establishment was ran back in the day. I remember growing up in Rochdale Village, and frequenting this place as a kid. I’ll never forget the high quality of both the food, and the servers working behind the counter under Poor Freddie’s ownership. The food was incredible and the aura was welcoming. I don’t think that he’d be too pleased of what this place has become. Presently, this place is ran under clueless ownership, who seems to have hired incompetent cooks to throw slop into serving pans. Gone are the days where restaurant owners actually give a damn about the quality and quantity of food being served to their patrons. Southern soul food should be made with love; not processed ingredients. Wake up! The bottom line here is the food is terrible. Give it up, and either shut this place down, or get your &%$# together!

Food is disgusting! This is not down south southern soul food. What part of the south these people from? God damn… The owner(s) should be ashamed of themselves. I taste can cheapo everything. The BBQ sauce, Mac N Cheese, Yams… are you serious!!! Who is the cook? Stop using can processed food. The place needs a Restaurant makeover and certainly a course in southern hospitality. This place used to be good when I was a kid. The owner(s) need s to stop cutting corners and hire a consultant. Don’t waste your money or time.

I used to love to come here with my parents as a child all the time. They’re food has fallen off terribly and the service is horrible. The guy making my plate started banging on the metal food covers to gain my attention. Instead of asking«what would you like?» When I corrected him and told him not to bang at me, he started to argue with me. So rude and unprofessional. Then to top it off, my food was disgusting. No seasoning, just bland. I won’t ever be back. Mac and cheese looks good but tastes really bad. I ended up throwing my food away, after a few bites I just couldn’t bare it anymore. Plate was sloppy, food spilling everywhere. Just bad.

Soooo disappointed! We haven’t been there in a couple of years. This used to be the spot for great ribs, good fried chicken & tasty potato salad… now they have a Grade Pending sign in the window. Went there on Saturday evening 11÷1÷14 the place was empty. Food looked like it sat around all day because no comes in anymore. collard greens full of stems, dead green beans, tired mac & cheese, burned corn muffins, old ribs covered in sauce to hide the meat & staff that can’t be bothered. Do not waste your time or money! Soooo Sad!!! A star only because you can’t post without one!

Not everyone’s idea of home cooking is the same. Nobody in my family would serve those stem-filled greens to even their worst enemy. And they were sweet. Who keeps putting sugar in their greens?!? This is the second BBQ place I’ve been to that’s done this and it’s awful. Stop it! The ribs were meaty and plentiful. I got them to go and was eating them in my vehicle during lunch so I didn’t get the extra sauce. It would have been better with it. They were still tasty without, but I always find that beef ribs need a little bit more sauce. The sauce isn’t spicy or overly sweet. It’s fairly middle of the road sauce. Pork ribs used to be on the menu. I wish they were still there. The baked mac and cheese was adequate. It wasn’t nearly cheesy enough but it was closer to traditional than most. The collard greens… I don’t know what geographic location in the South serves them with sugar and no spice, my family is from central Georgia, but I’m going to make sure I stay out of those places. And the stems. It was 50% stems! Big ol’ hard stems. Dinosaur BBQ has had the best greens I’ve had outside of homemade. These just don’t cut it on any level. The apple cobbler was sold out, so I got the peach. I liked it. It wasn’t too sweet or too tart. Pretty good. The portions were large and the price was a good value, but they really need to do a much better job on those sides. The collards especially.

This a good BBQRIB shack! It’s take out only! No tables nor chairs for people to seat so don’t think you about to sit down and eat. It’s always busy! The guys in there are pretty nice. They have a good system of helping the customers! I really like their greens and BBQ chicken! Street parking. It’s a busy area! However I wish the Mac n cheese and yams wasn’t box and can be made from scratch! Veggies freshly made daily! They need to use a different takeout plate because the plates they use leaks out the sauces which makes a mess! I love sauces so that’s annoying to me! BBQ chicken with cabbage and collard greens Taste really good!

It’s takeout only and nowhere near a train, but if you can sort out the logistical issues this is a must-visit. While ribs and fried chicken have always been excellent, I was rewarded for getting more experimental and trying new items including the spectacular smothered turkey wings. The fried pork chops are dangerously delicious. Oxtail and short ribs were very good, too. The one skippable entrée I’ve found was the chopped pork. On the sides, I was stunned by how much I enjoyed the cabbage. Mac and cheese is a strong contender. The collard greens need to be considered in context — it’s not like you’ll be writing soliloquies about them after one bite, but they are very effective as a lighter counterpoint to the meat items. And just when you thought you can’t eat for days, it’s peach cobbler time.

Been a long time since I’ve been back to this place. One of the few places in Jamaica that I make a special journey to for some good ribs. This joint is pretty well known in the neighborhood because it’s been here for years. This is some authentic southern BBQ, right down to the flies buzzing around as you walk into the establishment. Reminds me of those hot summer days outdoors in Georgia. Nice touch. There are no tables or seats in this place. It’s more of a take out joint. Roll up in a car or on foot and go about your business. The ribs here are not your typical BBQ ribs. The sauce they use is more of a sweet, tangy sauce. They have a variety of southern standards and they are all served from trays that have been kept warm all day. If you are particularly squeamish about food that is pre-prepared and kept warm in metal containers – then this isn’t for you. Move along. For those that like good food, don’t let that deter you though. You can watch them cut off your ribs from a big slab they keep there. The ribs here have never disappointed me, although they are not for everyone. Very sweet if you elect to get them with the sauce. I always get two orders of the mac and cheese. They are cut into squares like a casserole and the blocky-ness is something I like. This place can seem scary to some because a lot of the time it’s dead empty and if you don’t know what to order it can be intimidating if it’s your first time here. Sadly, I’m not in Jamaica too often. Probably a good thing because I would gain a lot of weight if I had access to this establishment all the time.
