About a decade or even two decades ago these stores popped up in all the five boroughs. Now there is none in Manhattan below 100th Street. I came in here in a quest for sneakers a few weeks ago. The pair I had needed to be thrown out. I also needed shoes so that is why I took the train here because there are lots of stores here and less crowded that Downtown Brooklyn, For some reason the wall they have the sneakers in display mixed in with the boots. I had found two sneakers that appealed to me. I was about to ask the salesman on the floor for help when he was approached by another customer so I had to wait a bit. Eventually someone else came to help me. I showed him the two styles I was looking for and I gave him two possible sizes for each so he brought 4 different pairs of shoes corresponding to my request. I decided on the size that fit me for one brand and style. The brand and style of the one I didnt decide to purchase was way too small. I went to the cashier to make my purchase. Thankfully there was not much of a line. I;ve been wearing them for a week and no problems with comfort.

This place has been opened for YEARS yet it only has 2 reviews. VIM is no longer a store that I would shop at. It was a staple of mine back when I was in HS and it still is a great store but no longer somewhere I would go. I popped in here for nostalgia and to see if they still had a decent sneaker selection. It was a big chaotic in there. A lot of the clothes I wouldn’t wear but the prices were great. Sneaker selection was decent but there are better options inside the Coliseum mall. If you need some back to school clothes for the kids definitely come here but other than that go to Dr Jay’s.

In a nutshell: Great and affordable urban apparel in NYC. Almost done with my NYC reviews!(3 months later…) I’ve been hitting up VIM since I was in high school. They have a wide selection of baggy everything. A lot of the apparel here is what you see a lot of people around town wearing. I mean rocking high fashion in NYC is common in the city, but VIM is tailored towards the Hip Hop culture that a lot of us grew up with. Ambience 3⁄5 Imagine a clothing store with stacks of clothing everywhere, where most of the stuff has been unfolded because people take a look at everything, but then don’t fold it back. There is a bag check when you walk in to prevent theft. This store has two floors: main floor has clothing, and ground floor as shoes. Service 3⁄5 Fine. Staff help you at the register, and there’s one person roving around folding clothes and putting back inventory. Parking 2⁄5 Jamaica Ave. You’ll find parking on the side streets, but it’s a drag. Price 4⁄5 Prices vary hear. Pay close attention to the tags, as jeans could be stacked next to each other but could differ in price by $ 30. No «top shelf» or «bottom shelf» product placement here. Overall 4⁄5 Make sure to try the clothes on you intend on getting. Sometimes the sizes are inaccurate. Other than that, this place is great for finding your urban apparel needs.
