History

Established in 2001.

Although the Diliberto Winery traces their first vintage back to 2001, their legacy of crafting fine wines goes back twenty years earlier, to the first wines the family made in the basement of Sal and Maryann’s home in Queens, New York. What started out as 50 gallons turned to 100, and soon became the full time labor of love of Sal and Maryann Diliberto. In 2004, before even opening for business, The Diliberto Winery took home gold medals at the New York Food and Wine Classic, and the rest, they say, is history.

Today, The Diliberto Winery is a world class tasting room and catering facility, focused on bringing a little piece of Italy back to America.

Meet the Business Owner

Salvatore D.

Business Owner

Salvatore Diliberto has had a variety of careers over his lifetime, but making wine has been in his blood for as long as he can remember. From humble beginnings in the family home in Queens, Sal has gradually grown wine making from a hobby into a full time business. Always the entertainer, Sal is known to frequently visit with guests in the tasting room, often spending time discussing his love of wine, the Italian countryside, or just belting out an aria from one of his favorite operas.

As Howard Goldberg of the New York Times wrote: «If you sit down in his tasting room… and relax and taste his slightly rustic 2003 merlot, you won’t call him Mr. Diliberto, but Salvatore. After you sample his 2002 cabernet sauvignon, he’ll become Sal. And after a few sips of the 2002 Tre, a blend, he’ll be Sallie. Or if you wish to be courtly, Signore Vino Rosso: Mr. Red Wine.»
