Best Western Plus Downtown Jamestown

My fiancé is from Jamestown, NY, so we stay at the BW a few times a year. We actually look forward to staying here because of it’s close walking proximity to downtown restaurants like Forte and the Taco Hut. I’m not sure what other people expect when they stay here, but when I stay at any BW I’m more than likely not expecting a 5 star hotel quality stay. Since 2013, I’ve probably stayed here at least 10 times, and I haven’t had one problem (knock on wood, ha!). The rooms are fine, toiletries in the bathroom are good, the towels are restocked as needed, etc. I only eat the breakfast when I have my daughter with me, and she loves it. We’ve never used the pool and probably won’t. Parking can be an issue when the hotel is full, but there are street spots in addition to the lot, so you can usually find something.
My main complaint would be about the slow check in process! On a few occasions, we’ve been stuck standing in the lobby waiting for anyone to appear to check us in. Then it takes at least 5 minutes for them to go over everything. I don’t like that, but can get over it!
Until there’s another option in Jamestown (and I do think that’s on the horizon), I will continue to stay here!

The prices were reasonable. The breakfast was actually pretty good. The pool is warm and open till 11pm. My room was Definetly clean, don’t know why most of the reviews below complained but obviously they resolved that issue. But the best part of my stay, the reason I downloaded the Unilocal app just so I can post this, is am employee named Greg. Young man, long blonde hair, friendly as all hell. This guy was everywhere and handled several guests at once without an attitude actually with a smile. He was being pulled in so many directions I personally work in the service industry and would have been overwhelmed but he wasn’t frustrated at all. This guy single handedly made me feel like all my needs were accomadated and if you come to stay here I hope you are fortunate enough to meet him.

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Stayed there one night, passing through town on a long road trip. The room and bedspread smelled like body odor, mold, and cigarettes. The icing on the cake? Bed bugs.

I was very disappointed with this hotel! When I arrived they had no clean rooms, at 5 pm. Several guys hang at the front door every night waiting for their girlfriends to get off work! There is an awful smell, not sure why! I would not recommend this place, not worth the money! It is cheaper to drive 30 minutes and stay at the Holiday Inn express, Findley Lake, than stay at this place. I travel a lot and this is not what I called hotel. motel 6 or super 8 are much better. I’m glad I checked out.

First impression. I walked in and no one was around. Granted it was late but there was no note or bell on the desk. I had to call to get someone to come to the desk. She was in the back doing inventory.
The main entrance is on the back of the building, facing away from the street.
The room. As soon as you walk in you are hit with a wet musty carpet smell. I most likely would have switched hotels if it were for more than a couple days! I just turned on the vent fan in the bathroom hoping it would help.
There seems to be a lot of permanent or regular guests here. People who essentially «live» in the hotel.
The furniture is old and dated. Someone said this was a newer hotel. There’s no way. Most of the décor looks like it is from the eighties.
I don’t expect five stars from a best western but this was barely a one star in my opinion.

Hotel does seem to be within walking distance to a couple of pubs or restaurants.
The business center… for lack of a better term… does not have the ability to open a msn word document or PDF. So I couldn’t print either of the items I needed for work.
Would I stay again? Probably not.

This place is a freaking hell hole.
The room smells awful and what the hell is up with the hood rats hanging out in the lobby? Are they crack dealers or something?
To top off this disgusting experience, we were blown out of bed by a 5AM wake up call. I would love to know why.

No, it’s not the Ritz, but you’re not paying for the Ritz either.
We stayed here because it was reasonably priced and had a pool. It also had 2 queen beds. It was clean, reasonably quiet (the AC unit is a bit loud but they all are, and it made for decent white noise which helped the kids settle down). The front staff was helpful, the pool was clean and available (I have 2 kids, ’nuff said), and the TV was of recent vintage. I’d stay again.

I don’t get this hotel, supposedly it is new but it feels so dated. All of the décor looks very 90s. It has the older style TVs which work fine, but I just don’t even know how that’s what you would have bought for the hotel in 2006 (I think that’s when I read it was built). Also the entire building is smoke free and yet there is this smell in the hallways and in our room that is vaguely smokey.
The pool is nice, the fitness room really isn’t. They have 2 pieces of equipment and that is it, a treadmill and an elliptical. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to make the elliptical to accept my weight and it was like trying to push down very heavy weights just to make it move, so weird. But the worst worst worst part is the muzac. Who knew that still existed? They have it playing in the lobby and outside which is fine, but also in the fitness room. There is a little Muzac knob for you to adjust the volume but you can’t seem to get it all the way off.
Aside from the dated décor there was nothing really wrong with the room. They did have the newer style of comforters which are the removable duvets which actually get cleaned, so nice. I also liked the throw blankets they had on the beds. This seemed to be a Best Western as a whole thing actually but I really really enjoyed the fact that they put 4 pillows on the beds.
They don’t have wi-​fi which I realize looking back they never said they did, it just says high speed internet connection. But it’s only a wired connection. Not too useful for the iPad.
Overall this place was fine, I was just expecting something with a fresher look.

Was rated a 3 ½ star hotel on Hotwire. Unbelievable. I paid really good money for this place. I am super disappointed. It’s cheap and outdated. There are too many things to complain about. Major items: Room looks like a motel room from the 80s, cheap everything, old CRT TV. First room smelled like cigarettes. Moved to another.
Jamestown is a small town, but it’s a proud town. This hotel isn’t something they could be proud of.
Find another hotel if you are used to 3 star or above.

So I really wanted to love this newer hotel in Downtown Jamestown. Unfortunately, it didn’t really measure up.
The obvious pro to this hotel is the location. The hotel is right downtown, across the street from the JSB Arena, and within walking distance of a few good bars and restaurants. I thought another pro of this hotel would be that it was less than 5 years old.
Well, for future reference, I now know that being less than 5 years old doesn’t make up for a property being a Best Western. I usually average 30 – 40 hotel nights a year, and I’ve seen my share of good and bad hotels. This hotel was simply run down. The first room we were given smelled eerily similar to an ashtray. I thought this was odd, since 1, I asked for a non-​smoking room, and 2, even if I hadn’t, smoking in public building (including hotels) in New York State is illegal. Anyway, I went back to get another room, and it wasn’t too much of a problem. Since there were less than 7 cars in the parking lot, and the hotel was obviously not full, I asked if I could upgrade my 2 double bed room to a King. Not a big deal, but they said I would have to pay $ 20 extra a night to get that. Yeah, I can logically understand that, however in a near empty hotel, it surprised me a little.
Now to the room. The towels were the small thin ones that don’t absorb water, and the sink counter had dirt build up in the crevices. The carpet looked old, and there was a lot of noise, both from the street, and from other rooms. The bed was just ok. Like I said… it’s a Best Western.
As far as value goes, I guess $ 89.99 a night isn’t bad, however what we received was more like a Red Roof Inn or Motel 6… both of which can be found for $ 59 or so. Given the option again, I would have chosen to stay at the Clarion Conference Center (old Holiday Inn) downtown, or paid a little more for the Hampton Inn.
All in all, I don’t see myself ever staying here again. The staff was rude at check in, and tabbed on an extra $ 25 to my bill a week after I checked out. It took a call to corporate Best Western to get that cleared up. The local manager was a complete joke, and no help at all. Take your chances here. Not awful, but not good.
