Went here because I smelled the smoking meat the last time I was at the Quartermaster. We had the ribs, rib tips, fries and mac and cheese. All the meat was outstanding and the sauce was great. Mac and cheese is a must have. Fries were above average. Generous portions for the money. Will definitely be going back. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Place is small and all plates and untinsels are disposable. If you are looking for great food at a very reasonable price this is a good place.

Excellent pulled pork and a lot of food for the money. Plus it is owned by a local family

I had the rib tips with Mac and cheese and slaw. The meal was excellent. The food was hot and the rib tip were in the top five on my list. I highly recommend. Small place big taste

Best BBQ hands down. Dieon really knows his flavors. Turkey ribs, fried pork chops, pulled pork. It’s all good. The mac and cheese is hands down the best in Kentuckiana. Do yourself a favor and eat here.

Big Ben’s was the best BBQ years ago when he was on 8th street and nothing has changed! Best smoked BBQ in the area. Potato salad and baked beans were awesome. Super friendly staff! We will be back.

I’ve been to this place about twice a week, for the last few weeks. I know everyone has their opinions on BBQ, and it’s hard to find a consensus. For my money though, this place wins hands down! I’ve been to so many BBQ restaurants(I wouldn’t venture to count them) and more often than not in recent years, I’ve been disappointed. I’ve continued trying different ones, hoping to finally find the one, the search is over for me now! Of the BBQ restaurants I’ve tried from here to Nashville, this is by far my favorite! This place for me is now synonymous with BBQ. I haven’t tried everything on the menu yet, but I’m working my way through it. Every thing has been great! From Johnnie’s Smokin Ribs to Genora’s Royale(country style ribs) to Joecille’s Backbone(Brisket Tips) to Big Ben’s(shredded pork) sandwich to Alvin’s Wild-side(Shredded chicken) sandwich. I’ve loved it all!

Came to this place with my family on a Wednesday night. Place seems like a storefront for a catering service; meaning all the food seemed a bit too pre-made for my liking(kind of like fast food), all paper goods, and all employees seemed a bit lax for my liking. The food was edible but nowhere near something I would want to eat. 3 of us got shredded pork sandwiches and did not come with BBQ sauce… at a BBQ place? Once we asked for additional sauce we were promptly charged 80cents for each. The business seems to focus too much on its African American heritage respectfully, however, lacks in it’s food and employee quality. 2⁄5 would not eat again.

I am not exaggerating when I say they have GREAT food. I had a few ribs, chicken breast, baked beans and mac and cheese. Everything was super tasty, the building they’re in is cozy(and filled with interesting area African American historical facts), and the folks working there make you feel like family. We stayed an extra 15 minutes just talking to the sweet guy at the register.

Food so good and southern with kind people running it! I am so stoked! We had the pork sandwiches with green beans and baked beans. Sides age pretty good but overshadowed by the bbq itself. Style of bbq is deeply Southern style, mild smoke with lots of sweet heat that’s long and lingering!

This restaurant is tiny, but it is packed with authenticity. As I approached the front door I could see the smoker running behind the restaurant and paused and watched as staff ran in and out to attend to the meat. The owner greeted me warmly and offered me samples of Jahja’s Juice, a produce that is locally made in Jeffersonville. At $ 3.50 for a ¼ gallon it seemed a little pricey until I tasted it. I ended up taking home a bottle of the sweet tea because it is so good. I intend to buy some pink lemonade the next time I visit. I tried the pulled chicken sandwich, mac and cheese, and green beans. The barbecue was smokey and the sauce was balanced. The portion was generous for the price. The mac and cheese and green beans were adequate, but not particularly exciting. This is a solid option for barbecue and a welcome addition to the Jeffersonville food scene.

This may be some of the best soul/food, home cooking I’ve had in awhile. The catfish was fresh breaded in cornmeal flour and fried to order. Seasoned perfectly and crispy, not greasy at all. Greens had a great slow cooked flavor and the mac n’ cheese was creamy and delicious. Perfect comfort food for a cold day. There was only one woman working at the time I was there and she was as kind as could be, just reminded us that the food would be a minute because it was prepared fresh. Had no problems with that, as good food should never be fast. Informed us that the next time we wanted to come in, to call ahead, and she would start it early and set the table, and that if we wanted a regular table, she would set one aside for us. Great prices as well. Certainly worth the stop.
