Business Owner

Matthew began training dogs professionally in 1980. He is the owner and operator of Duffy’s Dog Training Center LLC, where he oversees the instruction of hundreds of dogs a year. Matthew is the Founder of White​FangVen​tures​.co, an online dog training source. Matthew has written 2 books on dog training, «Ten Natural Steps to Training the Family Dog» and «Dog Training and Eight Faces of Aggressive Behavior».

$ 1000 Wasted; yes I Wasted my money going to this training center. After I found out how they treated my dog that was it for me. In my eyes they mistreat your pets. They tell you that it doesn’t hurt them, the hell they say, let me take one of those Pinch collars and snap the hell out of it around Your Neck and then tell me it doesn’t hurt. Then for one of the trainers telling me that she keeps a Shock Collar on her dog at home all the time, well some dam trainer that is and I chose not to have her hurt my pet any longer.
They feed Purina dog chow so I took my own food and when I was given back the bag there was none missing as far as I could tell, my dog Stunk, so no bath, had a cut on his throat from that dam pinch collar. He is more aggressive now, especially to females. I’m like Dawn below I should have followed my instincts and he would not have ever went in to begin with.
I know there are dog trainers out there that DO Not use the methods like used at Duffy’s. I Would Never Recommend Duffy’s To No One.

I would not waste your money here. When we called to inquire we were told we would have a 30 – 90 minute evaluation. Up front we were told our pup was possibly too young, but they felt he was ready. He was already trained With the basics at four months. We decided to use Duffy’s after the reviews and visiting their facility and being evaluated. I sure Wish I had changed my mind. Every time we took our lovable, smart Aussie he would whimper and hide. Especially running and grumbling at one of the trainers. I should’ve followed his instincts! Now he hates strangers, the vet, the groomer, etc., when he did not until taking him here, not to mention they taught him absolutely NOTHING! We were all involved and did all they requested while there and at home. When we would pick him up, no one would give us any idea of how he was doing or how the day went, unless we asked! I have had experience raising and breeding several different dogs over the years and while we thought this would be good, as he was our daughters dog, and to have her have training too, it was the worse idea ever! Save your money, do not empower this place or the people here to continue to treat your loving pets the way they do!

Back in February, I rescued a boarder collie mix — now known as Murphy — from the local pound. He was incredibly lovable and obedient. Until I discovered he hates children. He lunged at two children, though never biting, in the span of a week. I knew I still had a good dog on my hands, but I also needed to get him properly trained (because no one wants a traumatized child or a lawsuit).
And Duffy’s helped me turn a good dog into a great dog. After the initial assessment (which was free), I was assigned David as Murphy and I’s trainer. He was engaging and well-​versed in the world of dog training. Through the daycare sessions and work at home, I learned more about Murphy and how to handle him properly. While not perfect, I know his limits. He now is polite and well-​behaved, and hasn’t lost a drop of his spark or softness.
Plus, the entire staff is courteous and quick to smile. I would recommend bringing any problem dog here — they know their stuff.

I have a baby boy German Shepherd puppy, about 4 months old and he has been in Duffy’s school for about 4 weeks. My husband and I have done a lot of research on owning a German Shep, this includes buying Matt Duffy’s book «Ten Natural Steps To Training The Family Dog». Duffy is awesome, and he knows so much about dogs and dog training! He is really the nicest guy. Owning a dog with such a strong bite and prey drive, it’s our responsibility as a pet parent to make sure he is properly trained. He is our second child, we have a cat Chippy. Duffy and his staff also train to help dogs learn how to act around cats or other pets.
With the cost of training school it includes boarding, if you go out of town, etc. School is from 7:30am-3pm, M-​F. They even have parent night once or twice a week in the evening so you can learn how to work with your pup at home. They have indoor and a large outdoor space. I think it’s worth it, I’m very pleased with the facility and I would recommend it to anyone. One last point, which is very important, it’s very clean in there!

18 months ago I took my dog here and had the trainers work with him for a week so that he coudl learn basic manners and leash walking as well as to have a bath. When I picked him up, I was told he is vicious and no one but me shoudl handle him. That I should only board him where there is an outdoor dog run as he was too difficult for anyone to handle.
I watched the trainer work with him in the chain collar snapping and popping the collar with each correction. When my dog got scared he growled (wouldn’t you?) and the trainer proceeded to swing him by his neck with the collar until the dog submitted to her. It was abusive to say the least and I was in complete shock, not to mention I left scared of my dog.
Fortunately I found a trainer who uses true positive reinforcement techniques and spent the next year undoing what was done at this facility.
It saddens me that animals are treated this way ant that this facility continues to operate. Yes, Duffy and his staff can train your pet, but go in eyes wide open regarding the techniques that are used.
