Blitz Manufacturing Company

I don’t know about the quality of the ENTIRE line of The Blitz Manufacturing Company; I’m sure their other products are great as well. I’m only reviewing ONE product, and if you play an instrument with METAL STRINGS, you NEED to know about this product. It will make you sound better, and save you a TON of money over the years. The manufacturer of the product I’m reviewing is located in Jeffersonville, IN. I live in Austin TX (as well as Escondido CA), so all the other business mentioned are located in Austin. Just wanted avoid any confusion. Anyway, here goes:
The Blitz String Care Cloth is the most amazing string cleaning product I’ve ever seen or used! From this point forward, I will be referring to it as what the guys who introduced me to it called it: «The Blitzrag». I think the best way to illustrate Blitzrag’s quality is to tell you a little story. I swear the entire story is completely true:
Many years back now, I purchased a new Spector bass from Guitar Resurrection when they were located near UT campus, on Guadalupe St. After playing around with my new instrument for awhile, I noticed some irregularities in the frets; the strings were buzzing at a couple of spots on the fretboard.
Since my Spector was brand new (and under warranty), I asked Guitar Resurrection for some work to be done on it. They sent me to the business next door. At the time, I had no idea who the owner was; all I knew was that he made custom guitars and did repairs. The guy turned out to be none other than the legendary Mark Erlewine! I kid you not. You may not know who he is and if ya don’t, it’s not hard to research.
I left my Spector with Mark. Several days later he called me and told me he had fixed the problem, that he had to mill the frets to even them out. It’s cool enough to have the repair covered under warranty, but to have the job done by Mark Erlewine is beyond belief!
I drove over to pick up my Spector and, of course, checked it out by playing it a little. Between hanging on a pegboard in the open air on the sales floor with God knows how many people handling it, and my playing it after buying it, the strings were pretty dull-​sounding, no sustain, and visible soiling /​corrosion.
From the first couple of notes I played, I could notice that something had changed; my Spector bass sounded bright and simply amazing.
«Wow! New strings!» I exclaimed.
Mark replied, «They’re yours.»
I responded with a «thank you»; I thought he had re-​strung my bass with new strings. He could tell I wasn’t getting his message.
«No.», he replied, «Those are YOUR strings, the ones on the bass when you brought it in.»
I was stunned. Even though the strings were old, had been taken off, and re-​stressed a second time when re-​strung, they sounded as bright as new strings!
That’s how and when I got introduced to The Blitzrag.
Do ya think maybe I bought one from Mark right on the spot? Do ya even need me to answer that?
The Blitzrag is a great product for cleaning any metallic string on any instrument. Yeah, it’s great for 6-​string guitar strings but truth be told, guitar strings are cheap enough to just replace, although Blitzrag will get you much more life out of your strings if you choose to use it.
But when it comes to BASS strings, we bassists are looking at a much higher replacement cost. I’ve kept the same strings on my basses so long by using Blitzrag that I tend to forget how long it’s been. I’ve kept ‘em on so long they actually broke from metal fatigue; I’m talkin’ months here. And they sounded like new strings right up until they gave up the ghost due to metal fatigue; unfortunately Blitzrag can’t do anything about that! Sounds hard to believe but it’s true.
The oil-​impregnated cloth will keep for months, even years, depending on how much you play, if you keep it sealed up in the plastic bag it comes in, or a Zip Loc bag. Just keep it sealed up TIGHT! I’d give this product 10 Stars if I could.
In case you forgot, the official name of the product is «The Blitz String Care Cloth». But to me, it will always be simply The Blitzrag. Do yourself a favor and buy one right now.
