The Westin Jekyll Island

Simply… PERFECT. The location, the ocean view room, the service, and the ambience. Special shout outs to Carlos at the front desk and John, the concierge, and the rest of the friendly staff. We will definitely come back.

We were looking for a coastal hotel for a short stay on the way home. We found the Westin online, a 4 Star hotel and thought we would try Jekyll Island. Because I was a Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) member I was able to get a special 2 day rate! That was an unexpected perk.
The Westin staff is very courteous, friendly, and accommodating. It is new and everything is operable (eg TV, ice machine, elevators, in room coffee, etc). The rain shower (shower head) was a pleasant surprise.
The beach is at the hotel, the pool is kid friendly, Salty’s poolside bar was great, and breakfast the restaurant was enjoyable.
We drove to Driftwood Beach per the staff recommendation. We weren’t there but about 15 min but it was an interesting sight and worth the short drive.
We plan to return to Jekyll soon!

We are a SPG family, and we only stay in Starwood hotels, usually W’s.
While the Westin is beautiful, I always felt something was… missing. The food wasn’t great, the room wasn’t great and the amenities were just «ok». The best thing is the free shuttle to take you places and pick you up. The staff are wonderful. but the property needs a little life and the food needs an overhaul.

This Hotel had A+ customer service! The staff were so friendly and helpful. My son celebrated his 5^th birthday while we were there and the staff surprised him with milk and cookies in our room! We will definitely be visiting again. Very kid friendly!

The staff at the the hotel is very friendly and the hotel is clean. However, they are still shaking out the wrinkles in their organization and particularly in their restaurants. Two times out of three days, we ordered food at the Reserve that came back incorrect. The food itself is of good quality, but I believe that having different cooks in the kitchen each day is causing variations in what you get. They are also very short staffed. We waited a very long time for our food by the pool. Also, in the restaurant, even though the restaurant is empty, they will make you wait for a table because they are understaffed.

Love this hotel! The ocean front suite was beautiful and I love the bathroom with the separate shower and love the huge tub. My family spent a week here for our family vacay and I will be returning in a couple of months. I don’t think this has much to do with the hotel but I’m a Starbucks fan and the satellite type Starbucks wasn’t that good. They were missing ingredients like vanilla. Oh Nooo! The food at the hotel and all the surrounding restaurants were very delicious food. The hotel staff were very nice. The people were nice overall. I enjoyed visiting the historical district via bike rides and we rented the red bug electric car for the week as well. Great way to see the Island. We also went fishing and crabbing. Very relaxing stay. Can’t wait for the waterpark to open when I go back.

Initial Check-​in VERY smooth. Front staff was very courteous, its clean, colors beautiful and as a whole uncluttered, and I love this.
Where it went south, was the extended staff and services. Never received housekeeping, and we were gone the entire day and into the evening. Although we called about it, and they did offer to come clean it, but we were exhausted. Then offered an appetizer complimentary, and we declined.
The Reserve restaurant. We had prepaid for 2 breakfast meals here. They offer a buffet which I would suggest. I opted for eggs benidict which the meal sat under what I can only assume was their salamander which broke a portion of my sauce and made the rest hard as a rock. Awful.
The Hostess that has been present for last two days, bless her heart, although very sweet, in incapable of multi tasking, the training program for her and most if the wait staff should be revisited.
As we have spent a lot of money to stay here for our 25^th anniversary I explained to my husband, it gave the illusion of grandeur with the service of a road side motel. They have the tools and location to be great, just need to have better training in place.

This is a beautiful property. Amazing view of the ocean from our room. We will definitely stay here again.

By far, one of the best Westins I’ve stayed. Came here in early January on a solo weekend getaway, but with it being in the off season, it was even better lol. This is still a new hotel & it looks just as it should. My room oversaw the parking lot but with an adjacent view of the beach, which was nice because the parking lot still had areas of construction. Very nice staff, most notably Brennan the bartender, amazing guy! P. S. the lobster mac & cheese is to DIE for! Will definitely be back!

Wow wow wow — the staff, the décor and the island is just stunning! We loved our time here and definitely looking to come back! He hotel is gorgeous and the design is so modern and futuristic! Honestly, it’s a wonderful balance between nature and modern sophistication! There is so much to do — walks in the preserves, the bike rentals to go around the island, driftwood beach!

First time stay here at this brand new Westin with my wife and daughter for the weekend. We arrived late around 8pm and found the lobby to be unusually empty and quiet for a Saturday night. We were warmly greeted, welcomed at the front desk and quickly on our way to our room.
We had an ocean view suite overlooking the main courtyard with its turtle friendly red walk lights. We couldn’t see the ocean until the morning but could easily hear the surf. It was unseasonably cold this night so no sitting on the balcony for us. The suite had a large living room and desk with a sleeper sofa that my daughter used. The bedroom had a king size bed and a huge bathroom with a giant tub and glassed in shower.
In the morning, we walked a short distance down to the beach from the hotel to catch the sunrise which is easily done in December. Afterwards we had breakfast back at the hotel with my coupons before renting bikes to tour the island for the day. One can easily get around the entire island in a couple of hours using their extensive bike paths.
I picked the Westin primarily because I am a Starwood member but also because of their onsite electric vehicle charger. It was super convenient to charge there overnight and leave with a full battery. It was free to boot as well!
You do have to purchase a parking pass to get on the island. We bought a daily pass even though we were staying two nights. The pass doesn’t need to be displayed and is only needed if you leave and come back on the island which we didn’t do.

Nice hotel in the middle of Nowhere ! Love it ! Great place to go and get away from everything.

This is a lovely addition-​or shall I call it a replacement– to a hotel lineup that was just kind of worn down and tired. This property is very modern and elegant, relaxing and comfortable and it brings a nicer feel to the hotels on the island, classing up the beachfront hotels substantially.
The lobby has an amazing driftwood sculpture, nice tile, etc and it flows well into the bar and restaurant. The veranda is super nice and extends the full back of the lobby, with what I hope is plenty seating during the busy season.
The proximity to the new central shopping area is great so you can really walk around and exercise, as well as have access to the beachfront and convention center on foot.
Restaurant is good, a bit ambitious but I hope they will grow Into their menu cause it looks good, and I loved my steak tartare appetizer, and beet salad. Wine list also good. Bar may need a little more seasoning, so they can roll good cocktails out with a little smoother finesse eg a Cosmopolitan seemed to stump them???
So thrilled with the cool elegance this Westin adds to this wonderful island!

We had drinks last night. Our bartender Brian was fantastic. He has a great personality and was extremely attentive to us and spoke to all that walk past him by name.

I think this Westin is unfairly underrated and I can see a common theme across the reviewers, which seems to be the resort fee. Does nobody from the hotel read their comments? I fully agree with all other reviews, resort fee is very out of place at this hotel. There is hardly anything that it covers other than conventional things such as the pool that are always included in the hotel price. They don’t have a massive property to keep up here full of attractions, this resort fee is very unnecessary and was shocked having to pay it.
So, that aside, I think it’s a phenomenal hotel. New, shiny, beautiful. Decorated with many contemporary touches, I absolutely loved he design of this property. Service was impeccable as always with Starwood properties. Breakfast area outside is awesome, with views of the Pacific Ocean.
It blends in beautifully with the Jekyll Island coastline. It’s a very calm place, but no means a party hotel, although they do have a nice rooftop bar.

Really great time check out the reserve bar and ask for Madison great guy and joe the waiter is a great

Burgers by the pool… amazing customer service from front desk to poolside bat… happy hour… free parking… free wifi… amazing shower heads and last but not least «the heavenly bed»
Oh yeah… my 11 year old and 6 year old daughters love it!

One star for location… it is on the beach, and one star because it’s decently new and property seems to be kept up for the most part.
It is listed as a resort with a resort fee on top of room rate. It has a pool, fitness center, mini fridge in room and wifi. Beach chairs not included in resort charge, additional fee.
The pool its self is good sized but the decking around is not much more than a pool chairs length. I was surprised when we brought the family to the pool to find it not very busy but no chairs open. The chairs are sparsely placed right around the edge of pool and accommodate for 15% of the hotel guests for the number of rooms this hotel has (2 person a room average).
The staff at check-​in, pool area and hotel in general, are very unattentive. This hotel seems to be more about rules and self service than accommodating guests.
As a SPG platinum member I am familiar with Starwood brands and feel this location is below standards.

Beautiful brand new Westin with very attentive staff. I’ve stayed at Starwood properties all over the US and parts of Europe and this is one of the finest. Very modern, close proximity to the beach and has a wonderful restaurant! Quite an improvement from the older resort I stayed at on 1^st visit to Jekyll 10 years ago. Shiny new places beat historical charm as they don’t set off my allergies so much. Will be back next in less than 10 years for sure!

I usually stick to the Westin brand and never have a complaint in the world about their establishments. I was very excited to stay at this brand new hotel for a few nights and to check out Jekyll Island on our way home. My excitement was short-​lived the first day when we walked out to the beach, picked out a set of chairs and sat down to get our baby ready with sun screen. A guy walks up and asks if we would like to rent the chairs for $ 30? We were completely confused… I thought these were the hotels and they were covered in the resort fee we paid? They were not. It blows my mind that they don’t have any chairs for you and that joe blow is even allowed to capitalize on selling chairs behind the Westin.
I’m glad we didn’t buy them because as we walked out to the beach there were hundreds of dead jellyfish (imagine taking a baby into that!) So what does the resort fee cover? The pool, the business center and free wifi? Newsflash… every hotel already gives you that for free anyway. Just because you have a pool doesn’t mean you qualify as a resort. There isn’t even any shaded spots at the pool. The pergolas are nice to look at and all, but aren’t very functional.
We just came from the Westin Hilton Head where we paid a similar resort fee. They have 6 heated pools, shuffle board, tennis, tons of other stuff. Now that’s a resort. This is just a hotel with a pool along the beach and not a very good beach at that.
My recommendation is to go to the Westin in Hilton Head, it’s much nicer, actually a resort and has much more to do around the area.
