Saint Basil Academy

As a parent of an alumna and of a current student, I see the strengths of the school to be its warm community and its academic environment. The girls are so friendly, and the Sisters truly care about them. Any time I have ever visited the school during the day, I am always greeted warmly by students, faculty or other parents. If you want your daughter to go to an all-​girls Catholic school, SBA has a lot to offer for its relatively small size. The sports and drama programs are very strong, and there are many musical groups to get involved in as well as various interesting clubs. The current band director is amazing. Academically, the level of rigor has been increasing, and the new principal is experienced and open to change. The academy is surrounded by fields in a quiet suburb. To recap: small, peaceful, caring, academically focused, Catholic, safe environment.. . come visit on a shadow day to see if you like it!

Wow. I am shocked by the poor reviews. I am an alum of SBA, I graduated in 2000. I have nothing but fond memories of this school.
St. Basil’s gave me more than just a top notch education. It was here I learned to be independent and successful. The teachers always had time for their students, and you knew that they really cared about you, your education, and your future.
Students were given the attention and guidance you need as an adolescent. Sure there were some rules that I look back on and think were a little ridiculous, but these rules taught me to respect authority and gave me a sense of structure that I can say many schools do not have.
In response to Catherine D.‘s post– I’m sorry to hear about your poor experience during your parents divorce, but I can assure you the nuns no longer hit the students. It’s sad to say but that was common practice in MOST private schools in the 50’s and 60’s, not just St. Basil’s. In regards to your hatred of organized religion– I think you’ll be pleased to hear that the religion courses at the school require students to learn about other religions, not just the Byzantine faith the sisters of the school practice. They are also open to students of all religious affiliations. I myself am Agnostic, and frequently challenged my religion teacher, a Sister of St. Basil’s, on tenants of her faith, and she was very patient with me, and never tried to force her beliefs upon me.
The academy’s college acceptance/​attendance record speaks for itself. What they cannot measure are the life lessons you learn at this school. Lessons that can only be learned by personal attention to students in a small classroom environment by teachers who really care about your future and are willing to invest their time in you.
If you have a daughter and you want her to receive a wonderful eduction, I highly recommend looking into St. Basils.

Wow, this takes me back. I attend St. Basil’s in 1962 for about 4 years. I was on of the kids who lived there. My parents were getting a divorce and my dad being Ukrainian, tried to hide me from my mother. The nuns would hits us when we did something wrong. They were mean, I hated the place. I don’t think I learned anything other then to hate organized religion. There are so many stories. But I’ve moved on. Don’t send your kids there. There are better places.
