Owned by San Antonio native Terri Acosta, the store is managed by President, Ehlo (9 year-​old Black Labrador), who is assisted by Vice President of Quality Control, Cash (4 year-​old Black Labrador) and Vice President of Customer Relations, Riley (7-​month-​old Black Labrador). Born out of a desire to spend her work days with «the girls,» the Canine Canteen is the ultimate consequence of spoiled pets, one that all local dogs and cats will benefit from. The Canine Canteen is a place for you to find new friends, fun toys and treats, your pets’ favorite food — if it’s not on the shelves, it will be ordered as quickly as possible. Located in the Historic Paulus Hook neighborhood in Jersey City, NJ, Canine Canteen is a general store for the furry friends of the neighborhood. Owned by San Antonio native Terri Acosta, the store is managed by Ehlo, our Health and Nutrition expert, who is assisted by Cash the Furry Fashionista, and Riley, the youngest of the pack, who will greet you at the door. Born out of a desire to spend her work days with «the girls,» Canine Canteen is the ultimate consequence of spoiled pets, one from which all local dogs and cats will benefit. Canine Canteen is a place for you to find new friends, fun toys and treats, and your pets’ favorite food. Our feline friends get a little lovin’ too in the Kitty Kanteen, located on premises.

Canine Canteen is a wonderful pet store. I used to shop online but now always bring my dog here for every need from food to clothing to fun. The owner, Terry, is helpful and wise. I think every pet owner in this area should adopt Canine Canteen.

This is a great placefor holistic food advice to products and a great staff.. Terry is great and so are her pooches. My dog, Max loves this place and stops by everyday to say Hi. Alan, the groomer who stops by twice amonth is the go-​to groomer. Max generally never enters a grooming place if he knows he is going to get groomed. But he loves Canine Canteen and so do other dogs I see there. Its the energy that pulls pets and owners to this place. Glad to have Canine Canteen in the neighborhood.

Love this little pet store. The employees are so helpful and even order things for you if they don’t carry it in stock (like the Eagles jersey my french bull dog had to have before the next game!). My dog loves being there to meet other dogs and we stop by regularly to pick up new toys and treats. It is slightly more expensive than ordering things online at Amazon but Terry and everyone else are so nice and helpful that I couldn’t think about shopping anywhere else.

I love this place! They have a great assortment of food, treats, and toys. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. The ONLY reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because of their hours. I don’t mean the actual «store hours» they have listed on their door and online, but the actual hours they are there. I have been to Canine Canteen many times where they are listed as open and they are not. I have easily encountered this problem over 10 times and it appears to be a common trend there.

I really enjoy stopping in this store on the weekends. The lady who is normally working is very friendly and nice to talk to. She is even sweet with my attention loving 6 year old nephew. They also have a great selection of dog food, treats, and clothes.

My go to pet store. Terri and Kristin, the owners, love for their own family of four feets, 5 labradors and cat, is truly reflected in the quality of the food and the assortment of accessories they offer. They are a much needed resource in our neighborhood.

We (+ the whole pet family of 4) are proud supporters of Canine Canteen!!! Our largest member Watson the mastiff always stops at the door whether the store is opened or closed. Terri has a good selection of goods and toys for a smaller store front. She is extremely knowledgable and caring. She can special order products if you need. She even alerted me about a pet food company that was changing owners and so their natural ingredients may change. As a multiple pet owner and a veterinarian in the area I am truly impressed!!!
Canine Canteen hosted a pool party for her canine customers today at Jersey City Unleashed (another place we love). Terri swam with the dogs and even taught them how to swim. God bless her ! She was in the pool for 3 hours with dogs everywhere!

This is by far the best pet store around. The prices are much more reasonable than competitors in the area and they have a great selection of toys, treats, food, grooming supplies, and other items for dogs and cats. The owner, Terri, is also a sweetheart and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Good selection, and she has blue buffalo in stock! (yay!) There are usually a pretty great assortment of pups inside the store and although it can get a little cramped, it is always entertaining.

Terry is amazing! This store has everything you need and a great atmosphere. Dogs are welcome to come in and mingle. The store has a great selection of quality items and healthy food. Highly recommended for any pet owner looking for supplies or advice. Love this place!

Absolutely the best place for dog and cat food, toys, clothing and advice on your pet. It is clear how much love has gone into this boutique pet supply store by the owner. The atmosphere of the store has always been open and inviting for you and your dog/​s. There are 3 very friendly labs and a matching cat that are often there to greet you hello. It’s such a social event all the time I’ve found myself there for longer than I ever planned. In short, if you are in the neighborhood stop in and you will not be let down!

This place is great! I strolled in searching for a tiny harness for my puppy, and not only did she find something that would work, she offered to get ahold of some of her friends to brings their small dogs into the store to help socialize my puppy! I felt right at home after the first visit! And prices are good too, from what I can tell.

Excellent selection and very knowledgeable and helpful owners. If they don’t have what you want/​need they’ll get it for you! The owners of this remarkable store truly embrace the meaning of community and give of their time, love and dedication to help local animals in need. Not too common for most pet supply store owners. These folks go above and way beyond the norm and I for one am so happy they are here.

One of my absolute favorite places in Jersey City! Terri is not only friendly and welcoming, but she’s also extremely knowledgeable about pets and each product she carries in the store. Terri would never sell any product that wasn’t approved by her three gorgeous black labs — who are regulars in the store and basically work in exchange for treats and Texas taffy (alongside recent addition Billy the Cat, the new poster-​feline for the Kitty Canteen). If a product is good enough for Cash, Riley and Ehlo, hey, it’s good enough for my dog. Canteen generally has in stock everything you need for the day-​to-​day, and Terri is always happy to find and order you special items (for example game day jerseys for the pups!).
The store is cozy (made all the more so by all the happy customers who like to hang out while their dogs roam and play) and the best part is, Terri really takes the time to get to know each pet and owner that comes in and makes sure you’re only buying the products that are suited for your particular pet (in other words, she would never push you to buy a product that didn’t fit your dog perfectly or cost more than a cheaper option just for the quick buck). Canine Canteen is pretty awesome all around — sure, you can stock up on goods at Petco or online, but when was the last time
taught your dog a new trick or the Petco employee offered you a Yappy Hour beer?

The store is a little tight, and the owners’ 3 super friendly dogs make it a little congested. That is really my only knock on this cute little pet store that opened up in a great location on Washington.
The owners are really nice, and will bend over backwards to assist you, get to know you, and order whatever they may not provide on the shelves.
The prices are very similar to any area boutique pet store, and they carry great brands that are very healthy for your pets.
They also have a great selection of warm winter coats & sweaters to keep your pups warm for the upcoming cold months.

Love the canteen! Terri, Kristin and «the girls» are all so sweet. They carry 5 star dog food brands, as well as nicely made toys and beds (like westpaw). Great walking distance to pick up anythng and the hours are extremely flexible! Check it out!

I’m so glad this little pet shop opened up in the neighborhood, considering there isn’t one in the paulus hook area. I came here soon after it opened and was delighted to meet the owner Terri & her beautiful labs (Ehlo, Cash & Riley). All 3 dogs are well behaved and are used to being around people and other dogs. The store is small, but does expand out in the back loaded with healthy food, treats, toys, and clothes.
