Hmmm ok so I’m a 32 year old male chicken. I went to Doctor Scalia yesterday for a tooth extraction that was down to the root. I can honestly say Dr. Scalia is the best in the world. Not only did he listen and take time to speak with me he was quick painless and omg caring. Anyone ever need an oral surgeon I highly recommend him to perform the operation.

Thank God I found Dr. Scalia! I needed to have one non-​impacted wisdom tooth removed. My initial referral from my dentist was to another oral surgeon in the area. I was told I would have to go under anesthesia, even though my other two teeth had been removed without it. I trusted my gut and cancelled that appointment.
Yesterday I had my appointment with Dr. Scalia. His office is clean and very conveniently located in Hoboken. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed with the professionalism of the staff. Everyone treated me respectfully and acknowledged my nervousness in a calming manner. The dental chair faced a huge window that overlooks Washington Street. What a nice change from staring at a fake copy of a pastel painting that you see in most medical offices.
Dr. Scalia was friendly, funny and very personable. He joked around with me when he realized I was being overly dramatic. Two shots of Novocaine and some plier-​twisting later, my tooth was out. I didn’t even feel it come out!
The staff was very meticulous about making sure I was feeling ok after the procedure. Very thorough post-​care information and a follow-​up phone call a few hours later.
I don’t have any wisdom teeth left, but if I ever need an oral surgeon again, I know EXACTLY where I will go!

I went see Dr. Scalia back in August of this year to get my impacted wisdom teeth removed and I have to say he is awesome and so understanding. I was referred by my dentist and within a few days I was in there to get my consultation. Dr. Scalia explained everything and made me feel a bit less anxious about the whole procedure. Within two weeks I had my second appt. (would have been sooner but I had prior engagements).
The day of surgery I was extremely anxious and he was very calm and soothing and his assistants were also were awesome. They aim to please and make everyone feel safe and comfortable. Unfortunately though, I was set in to get sedated but neglected to inform them of my asthma so they had to use laughing gas which made me freak the hell out! Even through that Dr. Scalia and his assistants tried everything possible to calm me down (apparently laughing gas increases my anxiety levels to the max). We almost left it for another day because he said i was too riled up but i insisted i would calm down (lol. talk about a total freak out) and he suggested without the gas because it looked like it made me freak out even more. He talked his was through it and kept me informed of what he was doing, leaving out the cutting part (thank god). He was only able to remove one (lower right). I just asked him if i could just leave it for another day. I was beat!
Anyways, he is one of the best out there. He makes sure that his patients are calm and feel comfortable with the procedure. Even when there is a full blown freak out (I know first hand! lol). He thoroughly explains everything to make sure you’re nice and calm through everything (it did calm my nerves down but I am an over thinker lol).

I was referred to Dr. Scalia by my dentist at Jersey City Dental Spa. My initial consultation was great. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Scalia explained everything thoroughly. A previous reviewer stated they have permanent numbness, that is a risk Dr Scalia DID explain to me in addition to other risks (dry socket, nerve exposure, etc). He answered every question I had and responded to all of my concerns. There are always risks with surgery of any type. I decided it was worth the risk to have the impacted teeth removed before they reached the nerves of the teeth they were growing toward. My surgery was performed at Jersey City Medical Center under general anesthesia because I’m anemic, have a minor heart murmur and the the teeth were deeply impacted. That plus, I have zero tolerance for pain along with a fear of dentists in general. Originally, I was going to have 4 teeth removed but after doing the first side there was slight nerve exposure and Dr Scalia elected to wait and make sure I healed before doing the other side. Additionally, because the bottom tooth was so deep, he didn’t want me to have to deal with maneuvering thru eating while both sides of my lower jaw were healing. I think that was a very compassionate decision. The surgery was about 2 hours and it went well. I didn’t feel any pain until the anesthesia started wearing completely off but by that time I had my prescriptions filled so I just took the pain medication and went to sleep. I would consider the after pain and discomfort to be normal for a surgical procedure. The ice packs were helpful for the minor swelling. Overall, Dr Scalia set an accurate expectation and I am pleased with his work.

I am a 23 year old woman with a very small mouth. I have had a total of 12 teeth extractions (8 which were permanent), which gives you an idea of how small my mouth is. My regular dentist (Dr. Lawrence O’Mallon, also Jersey City) recommended Dr. Scalia for my wisdom teeth removal. Because my jaw was so small, the wisdom teeth needed to come out, or else all of my orthodontic work (7 years of braces) would be ruined. In addition, the wisdom teeth were growing sideways and into my sinuses. Eventually, they might have perforated my palate, causing more complications. I am prone to sinus infections, and my ENT said to get my wisdom teeth removed. There was a big chance they may have been the cause my sinus problems.
That was four years ago. It took me FOUR years to drum up the courage to get this surgery done because every single person who has gotten their wisdom teeth removed — or knows someone who has gotten them removed — had a number of horror stories. From complications to nerve damage to collapsed palates, it took me four years to go for a consultation.
Needless to say, I went for it. Upon consultation, Dr. Scalia gave me a thorough examination and break down of my X-​Rays. Because I had waited so long to get my wisdom teeth removed, each tooth was surrounded by rather large cysts, which would also be removed upon surgery. He also explained, since the teeth were growing sideways and into my sinuses, that there might be a chance he would poke through the palette. In addition, Dr. Scalia did mention the possible nerve complications because of the cysts/​nature of my wisdom teeth. He would do the surgery with me under general anesthesia for minimal pain, and if any complications arose, he would be able to fix them right away.
The surgery was booked in less than a month at Chris Hospital. Dr. Scalia performed the surgery with no complications — removing all four teeth and the cysts in about an hour and a half.
Although the aftermath of the surgery was, of course, painful, Dr. Scalia and his staff ensured my experience was nothing short of immaculate. Dr. Scalia personally called me the afternoon and evening of my surgery to ensure I was okay, in minimal pain, and to ask how my wounds were healing. The office staff also called to check on my progress. When I had discomfort due to my stitches, they immediately brought me in for an unscheduled appointment. I saw Dr. Scalia a total of four times in less than a week. Dr. Scalia even had an emergency surgery he needed to perform, but still took my appointment — he only asked if I arrived early.
It has been 8 days since my surgery, and I feel like I am back to being myself. Dr. Scalia is still scheduling follow ups with me, and has even changed my medication to ensure I am receiving the best care possible. After all of the horror stories I have heard regarding other people’s experience with this type of operation, I am happy to say I am 100% satisfied with Dr. Scalia and his staff. They are genuine, flexible, and eager to please.
Wisdom teeth extraction is a painful and uncomfortable surgery, and regardless of what doctor you choose, you will be bedridden for about a week. This, in itself, only makes it more important to choose a doctor you can trust — and I trust in Dr. Scalia and his staff.

I had the best experience when I went to take out two of my bottom wisdom teeth. Dr Scalia and staff were very professional. One of my wisdom teeth was very close to the nerve, but it was taken out completely piece by piece and I had no long-​term side effects. I walked out feeling ok and was in very little pain after. During the surgery dr. scalia kept checking how I was feeling and was very friendly and made me feel comfortable.
After the surgery I got all the necessary prescriptions, ice pack, etc and got scheduled for a follow-​up appointment. A few hours later I got a phone call from the nurse asking me how I was doing.
I was very scared before I came in, but the teeth extraction was as pleasant as it could be. Quite a few of my coworkers went to dr. Scalia for their wisdom teeth and are all equally happy with the result.

I was referred there by 3 dentists and when I called, the receptionist was friendly and answered all of my questions. I don’t have insurance, so I wanted to make sure I could pay for it. They do expect payment in full at the time of exam/​procedure, but gave me a max and min cost of 300 – 600 $. They also worked with me to get an appointment b/​c the doctor is only in 3 days a week.
After calling back a few times, I ended up going in 2 hours after I called!
Thank goodness b/​c I was in misery!
Got there and nurse Veria (?) took x-​rays and set me into the room.
Dr Scalia came in not even 5 minutes later and was really friendly, explained in detail all of my options, how the procedure was going to go as well as general talk that helped me trust him. * I know some people dont like the «small talk», but I appreciate a doctor that is down to earth and isnt too clinical. Dr. Scalia was a perfect mix of both and I completely felt at ease.
Procedure was less than an hour I bet… Had numbing shots in my mouth and kept my eyes closed for most of it. Continuously, Dr. Scalia and the nurse were asking how I was doing and at one point he asked b/​c he saw my eyes crinkle up. I was just fine and didnt feel a thing.
Afterward, the receptionist explained how to care for the pain and what to expect. She made a follow up and said to call if I had any questions. She even called me a cab since I wasnt feeling up to taking the train home.
The procedure with 2 x rays (one before, one after) totaled 425 $. If I ever need to remove the other 3 wisdom teeth, or any other oral surgery, I will go back. I would recommend him to anyone.
