History

Established in 1990.

The instructor’s training started in the 1980’s and the academy was formed in NYC in the 1990’s. After leaving New York, the main branch relocated in Newark NJ making it their home for the past 12 years and counting. We have a combined training experience of 69 years and teaching experience of 56 years. In addition, Mr. Teran became a Marine close combat instructor. The chief instructor from ITA II served in the Marines for several years, then joining the U. S State Department providing Diplomatic protection to U. S and Foreign Diplomats in Iraq for 10.5 years. After his resignation, Mr. Teran decided to open the second branch making Jersey City Heights its home, with the permission and blessing from his Master instructor SahyunNim Rodolfo Carrera.

Mr. Teran is looking to incorporate traditional martial arts as well as street/military defensive tactics.

Meet the Business Owner

Mr. Vic T.

Business Owner

Vic Teran, Tae Kwon-Do instructor, has an impressive resume. He started learning Tae Kwon-Do at age 5, earned a black belt at age 13, won a tri-state championship in 1992, and is an Iraqi War veteran. In addition, he’s a former agent-in-charge (Security Protective Specialist) for the U.S. Department of State. Very soon, he’ll be adding one more accolade to his resume: founder of the International Tae Kwon-Do Academy, which will be opening at 523 Palisade Avenue.

«I like the venue and location,» says Teran. «And the Heights is also known for being a tight-knit community that will support the studio. Although I may live in Hoboken, the Heights is definitely the place I want to open my Tae Kwon-Do studio.»

Developed in Korea in the 1940s by Major General Choi Hong Hi, Tae Kwon-Do is an unarmed combat style, and the name may be loosely translated from the Korean as «the way of the foot and the hand.»
