Mercer Arms

I really enjoyed my year at 47 Mercer Street. The only reason I left was due to graduate school in a different state. The building is maintained very well and quite beautiful. Noise wise, I never heard anything from the neighbors next door or across the hall (there are four units on each floor). The sound suppression between adjacent apartments seems top notch; I did hear the folks walking around upstairs regularly but it was not too bad. The rooftop is very cool and a nice addition, plus you can BBQ up there.
I used to clock my walk to the PATH in about three to four minutes. You cannot beat that. The area seems to have changed a lot since I moved in in August 2014 with more restaurants, coffee shops, etc opening. It is super safe and there are more folks moving into downtown Jersey City. With that being said, parking is a challenge. This area has alternate side parking and due to work hours/​traveling, I could not take advantage of the street parking after the sweepers came in the am hours. I used the Edison Parkfast behind City Hall and this was about $ 220 per month (I understand the prices have increased since).
As the other posters have stated, Rockie is a great super. He was very welcoming upon arrival and seemed pretty bummed when I was leaving. I really had no issues with the apartment over the course of the year. Lots of light, nice hardwood floors, and I loved that my unit faced the courtyard/​back of a building. There were no cars on that side. Central AC/​heat was a nice touch.
It is a bit pricey but as mentioned, my time at 47 Mercer was really nice. Take note that the beautiful Van Vorst Park is only about a five minute walk away. Cool spot to stroll through, go to a Saturday Farmer’s Market, play chess outside, etc. Overall, I would stay here again!

Living at 47 Mercer street has really been a treat this last year. My wife and I really loved our one-​bedroom apartment. We had a nice spacious living area with high ceilings and wood floors, decent closet space, and a courtyard deck! The best part though was lots of space at a reasonable cost with great proximity to New York City. We were steps from the PATH train and just minutes to work in the City. If we ever had any issue (which was rare), the amazing building supervisor, Rockie, would fix it in short order. The only tangible downside is that packages get sent to the basement for some reason and it can be a pain to hunt for them. Otherwise, it has been the best rental experience we have ever had. It’s sad for us to move, but it was unavoidable as my wife is attending law school in a different city in the fall.

We are so sad to leave, but moving on to homeownership. This has been a wonderful apartment for three years. The building is superbly maintained with attention to the historic details that make it one of the best rental buildings in downtown JC. Rockie the super fixes anything you need immediately. Everyone from landlords on down are super friendly and helpful, and you can tell they really care about the property. Having an elevator in one of these buildings is very rare and sometimes life-​saving, especially for moving.
Our one-​bedroom apartment on the south side faced the «courtyard» and not Mercer Street, and was very quiet and had great sunlight. The kitchen has so many cabinets it fit ALL of my kitchen gadgets. Compared with our prior Manhattan apartment, it was very spacious and we were able to keep all of our living room, «office» and a sizeable dining table in the living space.
Cons: slightly low water pressure but you get used to it, loud dishwasher, sometimes one of the three washers acts up but Rockie is quick to help
Pros: central air/​heat, almost immediate hot water, proximity to the PATH, pretty much everything.

We have lived here for a year and can’t say enough about this great building. Our 1– bedroom apartment is spacious and has a dishwasher, microwave and central ac (very rare to find this!). The building has an elevator and laundry room. The management does a great job of keeping the building in good condition and responding to issues very quickly. The super Rockie and property manager Gerry are very friendly and helpful. The only downsides are the price and the fact that there isn’t a change machine or card system for the laundry room. But I guess for the convenience to the Grove PATH and the amenities, Mercer Arms is hard to beat.
