Nimbus Dance Works is a non-profit professional dance company that aims to weave top-level professional concert dance with community impact. Nimbus consists of the professional company which tours nationally and performs twice yearly in Jersey City, the School of Nimbus Dance Works, and an array of programs in school settings and in partnership with other organizations. Nimbus is committed to making dance instruction available to youth and families regardless of financial situation by making scholarships available. The company’s rehearsal studio, school and administrative offices are located in Downtown Jersey City.
History
Established in 2005.
Over its 10-year history, Nimbus Dance Works has grown from a loose consortium of dancers to a top-flight dance organization consisting of the professional dance company, the School of Nimbus Dance Works and a wide array of educational and off-site community programs. Through touring and biannual Jersey City seasons, Nimbus has built a national reputation for its concert performances and innovative artistic collaboration. The company’s creative excellence is matched by a wide range of educational programs, including the School of Nimbus Dance Works, founded in 2013, which serves youth and adults throughout Jersey City and the surrounding region. Nimbus prides itself on a scholarship program that makes high-quality dance training available to youth and adults regardless of their ability to pay. A 501c3 non-profit organization, Nimbus serves more than 8,000 people each year.
Meet the Business Owner
Samuel P.
Business Owner
Samuel Pott founded Nimbus Dance Works in 2005 drawing on a deeply held personal belief in the value that the arts can play in bringing people and communities together. Mr. Pott’s choreography has been shown in New York City and throughout New Jersey, New England and California at venues including the Joyce Theater, NJPAC and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival.
A member of the New Jersey State Arts Council’s Arts in Education roster of artists, Mr. Pott has received a Choreography Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and a Governor’s Award in Arts Education. He serves on the board of directors of Dance New Jersey and on the Arts Advisory Council for the Jersey City Board of Education.
Mr. Pott received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1999 from the University of California, Berkeley. He toured internationally as a soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company and performed with New Jersey’s American Repertory Ballet and the Oakland Ballet.
