NY Shipping

Please don’t roll the dice with this company. While I understand long distance movers use subcontractors for pieces of the move, the company with whom you book should be responsible for ensuring the quality of those contractors. This company obviously does not, given the wide range of reviews here, which I can only assume is due to the quality of different subcontractors.
I was initially very pleased with the customer service I received, but as soon as I signed a contract, it went quickly downhill. That is however nothing compared to the damage done to my belongings during the move.
During my move from NY to TX, the following damage was done to my furniture: an antique chair and a kitchen cart were both damaged beyond repair; my dining table, 3 dining chairs, and coffee table all sustained significant cosmetic damage; and a dresser and antique magazine rack both sustained significant structural damage.
I was truly shocked by how poorly my furniture was handled. I booked moving insurance through the company they recommended to me, and 3.5 months later, I am still waiting for my claim to be processed.

The best review of this company is on the better business bureaus website, note all the closed complaints, due to the company’s non response… Yet somehow they keep a a# rating with the BBB, quite interesting. Also, it should be noted that this review website, that this is posted on, has a policy to not publish the bulk of the negative reviews, only the bulk of the positive.

I just moved from New York City to Oslo, Norway, and used NY International Shipping as my movers. When selecting a moving company, I had four different companies come to my house and give me quotes. Wayne from NY Int Shipping came for my site-​quote and he was just fantastic and very knowledgeable. I give this company my very highest compliments and highly recommend them!
My move was seamless, efficient, and in every way a fantastic experience! I highly recommend using NY International Shipping if you have an international move.
The pack-​up of my furniture and personal items was so well-​done. The moving crew was respectful of my items, and also made sure to pack lighter objects within cabinets and whatnot so that I could save money because of the cost-​of-​volume calculation. NY Intl Shipping gave me free storage for a whole month as we waited for my visa to process. All of my communications with Wayne and Nidhi from the company were excellent — they responded right away and put up with all of my crazy questions (this was my first — and hopefully only — international move and I was quite stressed about it!) On the tail-​end when my furniture arrived in Norway, it was in excellent condition, I was given clear estimates of the arrival date, and the movers unpacked every single item and removed the boxes and packing material.
I highly, highly recommend NY International Shipping and am very thankful to all involved in the move (especially Wayne and Nidhi)!

Rosalyn Nailes was a pro and we didn’t make it easy on her with adding/​deleting contents and even switching the delivery location. Such a pleasant person to work with.
Abraham, Noe and Billie were prompt, clean and fast with no damage done to our stuff. They were a blast to work with and treated my 3 yr old great who was constantly in the way. We will use them again for sure!

We had a really bad expiriance with them!!! they will say one price and than take it up.

I used the service from NY to London. I was very comfortable and pleased with the service and found the whole process very friendly and responsive.
The physical moving process was also superb, very in control of the whole process and found it very easy. I would use them again although I don’t permanent move out of New York regularly :-)

We used NY International shipping for two moves. Our first move, was moving overseas. On the day of the move, they showed up over 6 hours late making us change our international flight that was scheduled for early the next morning. With no apology or any time of consideration for our time and money that was spent to move our flight.
Not only were NY International moving some of our items overseas, but they were also responsible for storing many of our items while we lived overseas in their storage building. We paid NY International four years of storage for our goods.
We’ve since returned from living overseas and had the items delivered that were in storage. Arranging the move of our items in storage was a DISASTER as NY International did not schedule our move till the last minute. I had been coordinating with Wayne and Zhana who were NO HELP WHAT SO EVER. They had a hard time securing a truck cross county because no one bothered to schedule our move. Once our items did arrive (after many frustrating phone calls and no return calls) most of the items they were storing (close to 80% our sofa, bed, chairs and dressing mirror) were destroyed by water damage. Before this move, I confirmed with my shipping representative Wayne that we did in fact have insurance for these items, after submitting claims I was told we did not have insurance for these goods. Even though they were destroyed in NY International’s care. At this point I was dealing with David, who also provided no assistance and told me I was better off walking away from the situation.
In summary, NY International is a company I would NEVER RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. They show up late, don’t return phone calls and they also took our money for storage for over four years and then destroyed our items and then refused to file insurance claims. They are a scam of a company.

I moved from PA, USA to Oxford UK in September 2012. I have waited a year to post a review as I wanted to let the dust settle and emotions calm down. However, one year to the week later I have decided to review this company in the hope that others can learn from my experience.
I initially spoke to Wayne in the office who was a joy to deal with, helpful, polite and reassuring. He made an appointment for David Mazafi to visit to provide an estimate. David did not turn up for the appointment and in hindsight I should have stopped my discussions with NY International Shipping at this point. However Wayne reassured me there was a good reason for this and another appointment was made. David estimated the costs, which was not the cheapest I received but as I felt comfortable with Wayne I decided to proceed.
The packers arrived on the day and spent the next few days packing. I will bullet point my concerns
1) They helped themselves to the content of my fridge without my permission.
2) They made it clear that they were not well paid and made their money on tips which they expected to be in the region of $ 100 per man — there were 6 of them!
3) They packed furniture which was clearly marked for leaving in the property
4) They stood over me as I filled in the customer satisfaction sheet so there was no way I could be candid.
Once the load had been taken back to the depot I was told it was far larger than estimated and my cost was increase by approximately 35% to the tune of $ 3000+. After considerable discussion they did reduce this additional cost by $ 1000.
During these discussions I was told that all of my shipment would not fit into the container, I therefore said that IF NEEDS MUST the two canoes could be left, however I reassured by Wayne that he was confident that they would be included. I was understandably angry at this additional cost as their rep had visited the house and I can honestly say that two very large that items that I had asked him to include in the shipment where in fact disposed of prior to my move so the shipment was actually smaller than the estimate had allowed for.
Once the shipment was on its way I was sent forms to complete for its arrival in the UK. I sent back promptly as requested however I was not informed by the logistics department that they could not read the faxed copy until MANY days after their receipt and I was asked to resend, which again I did promptly. I had been told that my container would be available for release from the port 10 – 14 days. It was actually released on the 10^th day but I was informed by the shipping company in the UK that they would not release it until I had paid for the extra days in the port. There were no extra days, I had always been told to expect 10 – 14 days and it was released on the 10^th day however I once again had to pay SEVERAL HUNDRED POUNDS to get the container released. I asked why I was having to pay this and the representative in the UK office said that she had asked liaised with NY Shipping and they had told her to charge me. I could understand this if I had caused the container to be delayed but I had not and the container was released on the first day of the time frame I was told to expect.
Once the container was delivered it was found that the canoes had been left in NY. This I could understand if the container was packed to capacity but there was plenty of room. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME FOR A COPY OF THE PHOTOGRAPH I HAVE OF THE CONTAINER DOORS BEING OPENED, The large space available is evident. When I challenged the NY office they said the space was not what it seemed ??? I also paid $ 250 per item for several items to be crated, one of these, an extremely valuable picture was not, again photographic evidence is available.
However they ‘very kindly’ offered my a 5% discount should I use them again. This was glib and insulting, they knew I was moving myself and my children back on my own dime.
THINK VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU USE THIS COMPANY. ONE YEAR LATER I STILL REGARD THEIR SERVICE TO BE DECEITFUL AND THE CANOES AS STOLEN.

Unmatched quality of service I would agree with because I don’t think I’ve ever had worse. I’m still waiting for my documents from you guys to be sent to Wells Fargo. I’ve had to follow up with your company EVERY SINGLE TIME to ensure that things are followed up with and even then things don’t get done. If this were truly good customer service then i wouldn’t have to worry about where my things are and whether or not documents are being sent on time.
And I still have yet to find out where my mattress, lighting equipment and other belongings went. Your state of the art system has some flaws if you were not aware of this. Blaming it on the non-​US side is no excuse either since these are companies you have decided to contract with.
And FYI, my belongings were picked up in San Francisco back in October. It is now May (8 months) and I’m STILL waiting to be reimbursed for my lost belongings…

I joined Unilocal specifically to write a review about this company. It is THAT terrible.
I recently moved from Hong Kong to Chicago. My shipment was handled by another company in Hong Kong and NY International Shipping is the HK firm’s U.S. correspondent.
I was told that the shipment would take approximately 6 – 8 weeks from HK to Chicago. However, although my shipment arrived in the US after about a month, NY International Shipping refused to ship it to me from their warehouse because they «could not find a truck to transport the goods from New Jersey to Chicago.» FOR OVER 2 MONTHS. During this entire time period, they would not give me any time estimate of when they would be able to «find» a truck to bring my goods to Chicago.
In addition to being wildly incompetent, they were unresponsive, dodged my calls, did not respond to my emails, and were very rude.
My stuff arrived in one piece but after nearly 4 months without it I had pretty much forgotten what it was and replaced it.

I moved a few months ago. Using NY Shipping was one of the most negative customer service experiences I’ve ever had– so bad that, even though I didn’t pay for my move (company covered moving expenses) if I could go back and do it again, I’d rather physically move my own stuff rather than go back to NY shipping.
Every step of the move was fraught with issues. I too experienced what R.C. above experienced– no onsite estimate (note I got different estimates from different people!) and fine communication right until they go the deposit.
Oh, and I was assured (repeatedly!) that they could get my stuff by a particular 3 or 4 day window. I ended up getting it more than 10 days after the latest date I had originally been ‘promised’ by the sales rep. Apparently it doesn’t matter what the sales reps say– because the contract itself guarantees 10 – 14 day shipping ONLY when they receive your cash (and you can’t pay them earlier to facilitate the process, because they have to come get your stuff, weigh it, and then send you the bill, then you have to send a traveler’s check to them… which also takes processing time).
There’s also some seriously poor communication in the office, which I shouldve taken as a warning. I would get emails and calls from multiple people in the office (including my main contact) asking for particular moving-​related documents; and I’d send them and then would be asked for it again a few days later. My emails to my contact would go unanswered.
After my stuff was carted away by the movers, it basically entered a black hole. When I was calling trying to track my stuff and figure out where the delay occurred, different departments of the office (finances vs. the customer service arm) blamed each other for the delay.
Voicing my disappointment to the manager did nothing– they were basically dismissive, and even mentioned that they were really busy with a huge move for some big company. I guess my issue is, If my move was too small for you to handle with the professionalism that you claim to have, why on earth did you even accept it?
Moving lesson learned. Next time, I’ll be more careful.

I used them moving from New York City to Vancouver BC. I tried to estimate my things best according to the list they gave me. They never did an onsite estimate. I worked with Eli. He was good and communication was great until they cashed the deposit. I didnt’ get much communication until close to the move when the coordinator called me… Make sure you ask for some boxes.
Day of move, the crew was great, I packed some boxes on my own but they came on time and ready to pack what I had left. They packed things great. Only thing was this fumigation business. I had to pay to get my mattress treated so more money even though I don’t have bed bugs. They told me it was required but NO WHERE on the CBSA website said anything about this. To be on the safe side I did it anyways.
The actual cost was a bit over the estimate. Good thing their office is close by as I dropped off the check in person. Once it got to Canada it hands off to this company called Orbit moving. Then this company Bandstra does the delivery in Vancouver. THEY WERE 1.5 hrs LATE… and I was missing my elevator booking but they rushed and did a good job. Make sure you mark down which boxes/​items need re-​assembly.
For those going to Canada, you gotta clear your stuff in Customs. Make sure you read all the procedures for moving goods to Canada from the USA… NY Shipping Int’l gave vague details, I researched it on my own to be sure and safe…
Overall they were just ok, in the end casualties were a lamp and a wheel on a desk. Everything else made it… all 95 items.
End to End move, my stuff was picked up March 30^th, 2011 and I got it Thurs. April 29^th… this was due to the getting an appt. at customs (long weekend) to clear my stuff in the bonded warehouse. So I was stuffless for about a month.

We were recomended by a friend who had previously used their services. We was a bit worried at first having them pack everything in my home (this was the first time we had to go through such a large relocation). After about a week of question asking we decided to put down a deposit. We flew out to London two days later, and they took care of absolutely everything. For anyone who’s had to move overseas you know how stressful everything can be. They made it that much easier for us. They stored our «house» for 2 weeks as we finished the process of purchasing our new home. This was about 7 weeks ago. We took our time inspecting all the items they had packed and shipped to make sure nothing was damaged, and everything looked the same as when we had left NYC. Overall it was great service at a fair price. They made a very stressful international move go as smooth as possible.

i agree with gautam’s posting below. i believe they actually removed my initial posting (reposted here). i had a similarly HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE and have complained to the BBB. i have no doubt that the high ratings are NOT based on people’s actual experiences as they are completely incompetent.
After paying thousands of dollars, NY Shipping took forever to respond to my emails, provided me conflicting information and did not keep track of my shipment. The final invoice provided was more than double the original estimated quote and when asking for supporting documentation, NOTHING was provided. They totally tried to scam me and I would definitely watch out. Stick with Allied or another well-​respected moving company no matter the price. It will save you a lot of headache and worry in the long run.
