The technician arrived within the two hour window discussed. I was pleasantly surprised they could come the next day after I called. A genial man arrived, spent a few minutes with my washer, and called it a worthless cause. Then he discussed with me possible ways to save money on a replacement machine. I’m very appreciative that he didn’t try to gouge me with repairs and labor. Will definitely call them again.

I work for a property management office, and found Ngandu thanks to Unilocal,anytime we have called, he answers & comes right away. He’s very honest and fair with his prices. He knows what he’s doing and I would definitely recommend him to anyone with appliance problems. So far he’s fixed GE microwaves, dishwashers, and refrigerators for us, and they’ve been working perfectly. Thank you Ngandu!

After waiting a full day for Sears to fix my dryer and never showing up, Okapi was amazing ! It’s great when you call a repairman and the entire process goes smoothly. That’s exactly what happened here. My refrigerator was acting up. Ngandu kept his appointment, correctly diagnosed the problem, and came back to install the ordered parts for a fair price. My stove couldn’t ignite, and I was hoping to find someone who could come and fix it on the weekend. It was easy to schedule with Okapi Appliances Repairs. They came and did a great job. They also charged a reasonable fee. I definitely recommend them.
I removed one star because It was so difficult to get the receipt after the service. I’ve asked three times for the receipt but haven’t seen anything.

I called them to inquire about a repair and after discussing the symptoms, he very honestly said it won’t be worth repairing bc the cost will be close to a new replacement. Sid he’d be happy to come, but he feels that’s how it will play out after parts and labor for the problem that it sounds likely to be. Thats indicative of a nice, honest repairman in my opinion.

Our oven had started to take forever to preheat. We called Okapi Appliance Repair (
) on a Saturday afternoon (before our Super Bowl party the next day), they came a few hours later with what they suspected were the parts to replace and we’re done in under an hour. Super friendly and helpful. We had used them for a fridge repair before and will definitely use them again if we have another appliance issue.

Okapi had to take a look at my refrigerator today. Great guy. Came when they said they would. Diagnosed everything properly and then when everything was done I could use my card to pay for it on the Ipad.
Sets the proper expectation for the job. Got everything fixed and was on his way.

Our refrigerator was on the fritz and I called Okapi after seeing that Sear’s would take almost a week to get there. He came the afternoon I called and was extremely nice and professional. Resolved the issue in about an hour and came back on Friday to replace the damaged part. I love that he is tech savvy and does most business transactions on the IPAD. Overall, I am very happy I found them and will use them in the future for any other repair issues.

We had our gas stove and washing machine repaired by Okapi. They returned our call promptly, they showed up ON TIME to fix our appliances and they are very friendly. If I ever have another appliance in need of repair I will call them immediately!

Four stars only because he didn’t actually do any work — but here’s why he gets a great review.
1) Called, spoke to a real person and he came later that day. Offered a window of 2 hours and showed up exactly :15 minutes into the window of time.
2) Was polite, well spoken and make me feel comfortable (woman alone in house and all)
3) Immediately identified that my washing machine was beyond repair. Front loader, the drum arm broke. He could have charged me $ 600 to fix it but said truthfully — with 4th of July sales, you can get a brand new one for this price.
Overall, he could have taken the money and the job and he didn’t. Good, honest service in my opinion. While I didn’t need him to repair anything yet — he’ll be the first call I make when I do.

my freezer control panel broke on a sunday, called this place sunday night and they came monday when I came home from work. He was able to tell me right away what was wrong and actually called multiple places to get the part for a less expensive price! He promised me the repair would be a certain price and then when the part ended up being more than expected he STILL kept it at the price he promised. He had the part overnighted and came back the next day as soon as I got home from work to install it. Extremely honest, available and friendly. Will definitely be telling neighbors and friends about Okapi.

Showed up an hour later than the 2 hour window they specified when I made the appointment. Couldn’t understand the technician’s accent very well so the final price was higher than expected. Charged $ 200 to replace a $ 10 part that didn’t fix the dryer, clothes are still wet even after 2 cycles (2 hours). When I emailed and called they were unwilling to correct the problem or issue a refund (even partial).
This is not a professional service that should be trusted, invoice did not have a detailed breakdown of service (parts, labor, etc).

Although watching the Giants lose their 5th game in a row is depressing, watching my beers get warm was worse. My refrigerator for some reason was not keeping my food and drinks cold. We waited a day to see if it was just because of the excess items. The next day there was no change. A day later we needed a to get this fixed! I found Okapi on Unilocal and saw the great reviews and decided to call. Although the call wasn’t answered immediately, I was called back almost immediately. Okapi was willing to come to Downtown Jersey City that same day. He was very accommodating and nice. He fixed the problem, which was a fan motor problem. He was informative and helped us understand what the problem was and gave us information on how to prevent this from happening again. This was a great experience, so much so that it prompted my first Unilocal review! Fingers crossed we won’t have to use Okapi again, but if we need an appliance fixed I would use him every time. Def a great recommendation!

Okapi Appliance is professional, pleasant, fair, fast, and HONEST. It was a great experience from start to finish.
My washing machine stopped working Saturday morning. I called and reached someone right away — no voicemails and playing phone-​tag. I explained the issue and the owner right away knew it was important to me and made it clear he would visit the same day. He was clear there was a more-​than-​fair fee for the service call, which was lower than most other repair companies charge.
He called to see if I was home and came early. He checked the issue and said that he could fix it, but considering the part costs for my older model, I was better offer getting a new machine. He could have easily turned the visit into several 100s of dollars for himself, but he chose to put the customer first.
I HIGHLY recommend Okapi and will definitely hire him again without hesitation.

Okapi Appliance Repair rocks! I’ve got a beautiful but second-​hand (prolly over 5 years old) GE Profile fridge with bottom freezer. As weather got warmer, fridge seemed to not function well. Called Ngandu who came over within a few hours after I called. Super nice guy, not your typical «fridge repair guy», lol, very reasonably priced: $ 50 visit call, with a small charge for the repair, which took him a few hours to do (behind our fridge against a wall in a not-​so-​cool kitchen). Fridge seems great now, he warned us that the previous owners made some of their own repairs, which might affect what he did, explained the operations of our fridge in an intelligent way, unlike many repair folks. We will definitely use him again!
