Skyway Course at Lincoln Park West

Had a chance to play Skyway several times this fall. It is a GREAT place to play in the area. Only downsides are no real F/​B options, no driving range, and it is only 9 holes. Positives… easy to get to, great layout design and it is in very good shape.

I’ve had the opportunity to play Skyway several times now. I was worried when they first opened that they wouldn’t be able to keep the course up. However, they have done an excellent job. The course is very nice as we enter the fall, and they’ve shown that they know how to, and are willing to put in the work to keep it in great shape.
The course is a little short, but very challenging. I recommend playing one tee back from where you would usually play until you reach 8 which is ridiculously long off the tee. You’ll see what I mean.
The only reason that the course didn’t get a 5 star rating from me is that the pace of play is absurdly slow. I’ve never seen them even try to push people to move faster and they need to. I know it’s hard, but you can’t spend three hours playing 9 holes.
They are in danger of becoming a learning course if they don’t push people to play faster. They will have trouble of keeping the course up if that happens.
Overall it’s an excellent course, and I’m very glad we finally have a course in Hudson County.

Look, it’s a *new* golf course in the middle of JERSEY CITY. when you keep that in mind, it’s a nice little set of 9 holes. It seems to be kept well, it is challenging but not aggravating, and the staff was friendly. The clubhouse isn’t finished yet, but honestly I don’t spend much time in them anyway. They probably need to work a few kinks out with tee timing and keeping the pace moving, but like I said it’s a new course. You have to take it for what it is. I think some people are trying to compare this place to private clubs or non-​links courses in the suburbs. It’s not that. They really made something out of nothing here, and I like it.
If you are looking for a good place to get in 9 holes after work in the city, this is it. I played twilight (630pm) so I can’t speak for the earlier hours. But this was exactly what I was looking for and I look forward to seeing how it develops.

Was pleasantly surprised with layout,
Defiantly NOT for beginners or struggling golfers, real long off tees (white/​blues)
And bring alot of golfballs. Even if your straight and long you will lose a bunch!

Played this course twice and I like it. It’s a links course so it’s tight and can be punishing if you’re not hitting fairways. I would not recommend it for beginners or struggling golfers. The course, as of now is in great shape, It’ll be interesting to see how well it’s taken care of over time though. I took off a star because of the confusion with online reservations, county cards and the misleading website. A county card only gets you T-​times, not a discount. After speaking to employees both times I was there, I am even more confused now. To be continued I guess.

Happy to have a local course in good condition and not crowded! Hope it stays that way.

I really wanted to like it but was disappointed across the board. First 2 holes look great. Exciting to play on a NEW golf course. Lush fairway. Pretty tall grass/​hills in the rough. Very scenic. But the conditions deteriorate as you progress. The fairway is already getting worn in spots and the greens are slow and hilly. I ended up in a few sand traps. That’s nobody’s fault but my own. But I was really annoyed that people hadn’t raked after themselves. The rough is very rough and losing balls here is easy. No biggie except this is a public course so I can imagine when they start filling in tee times it will play SLOWLY. Unfortunately I played with others who were constantly on their cell phones and talking. Definitely had a negative impact on my experience.
By the time I reached the 6^th hole I began to smell garbage. At first I figured it was a garbage truck near by but it stuck with us thru 7 and unfortunately I believe its from being built on a Landfill. Really disturbed me. Also I believe it is the 6^th hole that boarders Routes ¹⁄₉ and lots of noise and trucks. Again not something I enjoy on a golf course.
The «signature» 8^th hole I believe is a horrible hole for a public course. If you can’t clear 175 or possibly 200 in the air, you have NO place to go. You will be in a hazard with no relief. I’ve played with plenty of golfers (male and female) who will have NO TEE shot on this hole. And after you get over the initial hazard there is another bit of water to clear for your 2^nd shot. I chose to take a 9 iron and lay up at this point.
I’ll overlook the trailer for the «proshop/​clubhouse» and bathrooms because I understand they are still building and anxiously wanted to open it for play. The bathroom wasn’t clean though. I thought it would be excellent to have a course in hudson county. I looked forward to seeing the views. I did enjoy getting to see the views. But, I don’t think its worth the money. Even at $ 19 for 9 holes. Definitely not worth more for «18». Maybe as a public course for $ 20-​$ 25. But keep in mind you are playing the same 9 holes 2x. Unfortunately I believe this course will deteriorate quickly and I don’t think it will make it. I don’t plan to return.

Descent course at best. Supposed to be new inexpensive course and was told on the phone $ 37 with cart for 18 holes. When we got there they told us $$ 47 for only 9. There are many courses better for a better price definately will not play again.

Hudson County has long been waiting for a golf course affordable to anyone but the mega-​rich, and it is completely worth the wait. Nestled between warehouses and truck stops is this wonderful golfing oasis, a course designed for the Outer Banks of North Carolina or the rolling green seasides of Ireland.
Many of the amenities are not completed as of yet, the clubhouse a trailer, the bathrooms a, um, trailer, but the course is wonderfully challenging, and brings an upscale, green environment to an otherwise blighted neighborhood.
There are many blind shots among the rolling fairways and fescue covered dunes, making drives from even the white tees treacherous. The greens, though a bit slow, are littered with large undulations that make routine putts difficult.
The signature hole, the 523 yard par 5 8^th, is as imaginative as they come. A carry of close to 200 yards is required from the tee over a marsh filled with egrets and sand pipers, birds not normally found in the truck fume filled landscape of Hudson County. Your second shot, towards the Pulaski Skyway, is once again over water, and the green is severely sloped towards the Hackensack River. Pars should be applauded on this hole.
As of the first month of opening, the course will not allow walk ons, all tee times must be booked in advance. And only 60 golfers per day are allowed on the course, to protect it from the normal wear and tear, and to see how the course reacts to traffic. It is in wonderful shape, however the greens are still quite sandy, and the clever putter will use the tracks left from previous rolling putts to help aim their shot.
One immediate standout was the lack of a single water cooler on the course. Beverages can be purchased in the clubhouse before your round.
Rates are more than fair for a course in such pristine condition. County residents can purchase a discount card that will allow them to book tee times in advance of the general public, and the discount received off the normal greens fees will have the card paying for itself in just two visits.
I hope the powers that be continue the «60 golfers per day» rule for the first summer. With the dearth of public golf courses in this part of the state, it can easily get torn up. Luckily for me, and for this review, I had a chance to play on it just a week after it opened.
Love this place, and I’ll be very proud to call it my «home course.»
