They have a Huge Poster saying«Buffet Monday to Friday» but when we walked in on a Friday evening at 8 pm, the restaurant was empty and the manager told us that the Poster was a «typo» and the buffet is actually Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday!

Awesome food and awesome service. Generous portion sizes. We loved the Kadhai Paneer and Garlic Naan. Décor, music and service is also good.

If you like spicy(heart burning) Gujarati food, this is a place to go. Service is not really good. Things run out before end of Buffett. Sweets are really good(especially after eating so spicy) and so is panipuri.

Are you fucking kidding me? This place is so disgusting! People please don’t go to even for a single time, we found a bug in our food.

Went there in a group of 4 adults & a kid for lunch. We decided to go for the buffet. Could hardly find any thing of good taste. It was disappointing. The service was horrible. We had to call the waiter 5 times to come to us & again remind him another 10 times to get something we wanted. I will never go there again. The only thing pleasing there was the interior. But who cares if the food & service is horrible.

IMO, a restaurant who has messed up toilet, doesn’t care about customers… so you can imagine what they do with the food you eat. Anyways, vatan is suppose to be traditional, authentic Gujrati food. The items on menu do sound authentic, and some of them are, however, most of their food is stale. They probably cook everything up in the morning and then just microwave before they serve. Worst thing, the service. The guys who work there are alright, however, the women. Me and my friends told one of the ladies that we think one of the items tastes funny and it might be stale. Her response, to our shock«NO. It was just cooked. «she never even said that let me check with the chef… nope. may be the food was cooker fresh, may be we were wrong, but no way to talk to your customer. You are the face of your restaurant, you can do better than this. Never going to eat here.

Worst restaurant ever… No service. Owner was doing the job of waiter. The plates were bought and kept on one side. He asked us to pick our own plates. The same situation was with water. He ordered us to keep the jug on wooden tray. I won’t comment on the food after such awful service. We ran away from the hotel once our food was done. Otherwise he would have asked us to help with the dishes…

I had a serious craving for Indian food on a Sunday evening and Vatan did not disappoint. One of many India Square restaurants, Vatan has a wide-ranging menu ranging from North Indian curries to South Indian dosas and uttapams to Indo-Chinese offerings. I went onto Seemless and snagged the Vatan Special Thali(small portions of several dishes complete with rice, pickle, bread, and dessert). While many restaurants in the area can be plagued by brutally slow delivery times, my shopping bag full of food arrived hot within 25 minutes. The food itself was satisfying, though not the best I’ve had. That thali included: Kathol(lentils and other beans/starches) Khichdi(rice and lentils) Kadhi(a spicy yogurt-based gravy with chickpea flour) Dal(lentils) Rice A few pieces of pickled vegetables A small piece of jaggery A piquant garlic chutney Raita Papad(chickpea flour crackers) Bread(many choices; I got mine with a fenugreek-laced flatbread) More than enough food for three meals and good enough to warrant a second order at some point.

I ate in and ordered quite a lot of times. I feel food is clean and tasty. I can trust the food prepared here. Their samosa chat is excellent. Thali is good too. Weekend buffet is good lot of variety. Overall I recommend this place to anyone. One of the few bests on Indian street of journal square.

Best Indian Thali ever had in US. Delicious food for reasonable price. Would recommend this place to anyone craving for authentic Indian flavors.

Horrible service. These guys take more than 2 hours to deliver food. After 2 calls they stop answering your phone. Food gets all soggy after it reaches you. I would never recommend it to anyone. I’m still waiting for my food its been over 2 hours now, and hour back their driver was 15 mins away, still he’s there.

The review is based on the food delivery order that I made. The food was decent but the delivery was horrible. I ordered food at 7:20PM and they said that food will be delivered in 30 – 45 mins. But the food came after 2 hours. I called the hotel at 8:05PM and they said the delivery is out and food should be there in some time. I called back at 8:45PM and and they told me the same reason they told me previously that one road is closed so the delay. Google maps showed that it will take 8 mins with current traffic from the restaurant to my place. Even if the delivery guy had left at 8:05PM food should have been there. :-/Also the person on the phone refused to accept that it’s been 40 – 45 mins since my precious inquiry call. He told me that he will check with driver and call me back in 2 – 3 mins but he never did. Then I tried calling them back at 8:55PM and they did not pick up my phone for 3 full rings. On 4th try a different person picked up phone and without asking my name of anything they said that my food will be there in 10 mins.(Obviously they were seeing my number on the caller ID and were not picking my phone) Then the delivery guy calls me and asks if he can leave the food at reception with doorman!!! What kind of bullshit is that. The delivery guy is very bad/rude. We had ordered one before and that time he did not even wait for 30 seconds for us to open the door. He just rang bell and left food. Also the food was still hot and if the delivery guy had left the place before 8:05PM and food was delivered at 9:10PM food should not be that hot.(outside temp was below 40F) Very very bad delivery service.

Acceptable, only if you’re craving Indian street food. This place has a solid versatile menu, covering north Indian and Gujrati/Maharahtrian dishes. Most items taste like restaurant food in India, and that’s a big plus. The complimentary farsaan(assorted appetizers) were delicious, while the Gujrati thali was a 4 on 5. Sarson ka saag and makki roti were forced-fit for the summer menu. But the quality of preparation, service and lack of hygiene turned us off. Why is it so hard to keep a restaurant clean, or bring the food in its correct order. Doubt we’ll go back specially for the food, but we’ll probably drop in if we happen to be in the area.

The décor and ambiance is very authentic. The food is also nice. Pros: The weekend buffet is quite good. A lot of variety. I like the a la carte menu better. They have some dishes that you won’t get at most of the Indian places — vagharelo rotlo, dal dhokli(nice Gujarati dishes) but they are’t very authentic. Cons: Service is quite slow sometimes.

Food: Try the weekend buffet to sample wide variety of dishes. The channa saag and puri bhajji is good. Kadi was quite different but had a good thick consistency and rich flavor. Order for royis to go. Ghee on roti is liberally applied. So use your discretion. Ambience: Simple. Can try the sit down option if you want to go completely traditional. The indian sitting posture ensures you dont overeat so maybe a good idea given the amount of food. Service: Friendly staff to explain and customize your food cravings. Cost: 15 $ buffet plus a beverage. ~18 $.
