W B N G-Tv

I hate this station. They broadcast there local news from 5pm till 6:30. It takes them 1 ½ hours to report 5 mins worth of news. And during the entire 1 ½ hours they tease the weather report. Lets face it the only reason to watch the local new is the weather. Im so thankful that timewarner started there local new channel ill never watch the crap on tv-​12 again. Another beef i have with WBNG (which is also weather related) is the annoying stormtracker alerts. A typical night will have channel 12 interupting programming with there annoying chimes 2 or 3 times an hour. They shrink the screen so they can show the weather alert in the boarder. Now if it was a real weather issue that would be ok but channel 12 will use fog as a breaking story. They will even have weather alerts for areas that are over an hour from binghamton. (I really dont care if syracuse is getting a thunderstorm.) I also dont think that the chance of a dusting a snow should shut the county down. We live in NY, it snows, get over it. WBNG is alarmest news at its worst.

WBNG reigns king in the Binghamton television market, largely due to their local Action News (spanning some 4+ hours each day). If you’re waiting in the hospital, WBNG is on the TV. Same at the airport. Even at my neighborhood liquor store (shoutout to Leroy’s Package. Hollah!), they have the TV tuned to WBNG. The WBNG personalities are like minor celebrities in town. Weird, I know, but true.
Their reporting is pretty good, but I’m more a newspaper/​internet kinda guy. I appreciate their focus on local events and sports. Local television is always a good thing. But coming from the inside (yes, I produced local television commercials there), I’m worried about the corporatization of WBNG. As with many TV stations across the nation, they were purchased by a large national company not too long ago, and I fear the effect a corporate mentality may have on the quality of the news.
But for the time being, WBNG kicks butt in local news.
