King of The Hammers

I live nearby the event and go to it most every year. It gets bigger and bigger, and hammertown is huge compared with years ago. What hasn’t changed is the noise, dust, and illegal riders /​drivers trespassing on private property during the event, and other events held out in Johnson valley most weekends.
This year they had most of the access blocked by BLM employees. We went through the main dirt road to get to hammertown where they attempted to get 20 bucks each from us. Although it was clearly stated on the web that access was free, but they requested a 20 dollar donation to put the event on. I keep hoping the event will end, so I certainly don’t want to contribute!
Anyway, the tip is, go and visit if you want, and just tell them at the gate you read on the internet that paying was optional. A donation. And drive right through! Or, if you like the event and want to encourage more, you can always pay. Your choice!

I’ve been following «The Hammers» for 7 years and can’t wait until the first week of Feb every year to be a part of it!
I’ve heard it called an «8 hour car wreck», «America’s toughest off road race» and «Burning man for gear heads» but honestly there are no words to describe the event.
The Hammers brings (let’s call it conservatively) 50,000 fans to Means dry lake to watch the competitions and participate in fan events that run from Sunday through Saturday.
The drivers are accessible to their fans, the organization (Ultra4) sets up these huge jumbo tron tv’s in the desert so if you are at one hill or back on vendor row you can watch the race that’s going on out there in the Middle of Know Where. They are shooting the entire event with helicopters and live feeding to the jumbo trons.
If you are a motorsports fan this is a must attend event! Spectator wristbands for the whole week of events are only $ 20.00 again this year. (2016)
The other side of this is the event feeds all of the businesses in the area. The communities of Johnson, Yucca, Lucerne Morrongo vallies and Landers, Joshua Tree, 29 Palms and Victorville all get business from competitors and spectators alike!
I hope you make it out there during the event, and I am sure that it will encourage you to come back again to enjoy OUR DESERT (ALL OF OURS, As AMERICANS) and the largest OHV AREA in the country when you might be the only one there like most of my days out there.

I have been going to this event for the past 3 years. We prep all year for this. We have yet to finish the race but have a kick ass time trying. Go team 602!!! 602 to Bobby…

The most grueling one day race ever. No just 1000hp rock crawlers. Atv and bikes too! Join up and ride do it! Fun as hell even in a dirt bike. Place is trashy from locals using it as a dump. a way to meet people that have a life to get them out of a environment of scummy life!

King of The Hammers takes place in Johnson Valley, CA every February and is considered to be the «toughest one day off road race in the country» More than 300 teams and 30,000 spectators will come out to the area on Mean’s Dry Lake known as «hammertown» in 2013. Spectators get to experience a week of off road racing in the beautiful Johnson Valley. This race is home to the King of The Motos, King of the Hammers UTV Race, Smittybilt Every Man Challenge and the Griffin King of The Hammers presented by Nitto Tire.
