I took my son here for zombie night and we had a great time. Joliet Slammers Stadium was easy to get too. Just off of I 80. Parking is free and close to the Stadium. For the first half hour after the gates open, they have specials for food and pop. I thought the food was above average for baseball food. They have over 60 different beers to choose from all over the park. The Slammers have a couple players standing at the gates signing autographs and posing for pictures before the game. The stadium was very clean with no lines for the bathrooms. They also had fireworks after the game. We really had a great time and will go back for future games.

Another nice baseball venue in the South suburbs. Silver Cross Field — currently home to the Frontier League’s Joliet Slammers is a beautiful baseball park that seats about 6,000 fans. Games are not very expensive and offer a really nice evening out or special attraction during the summer months. Come out a see a game. The IHSA plays their State Championship Finals in boys baseball here each year.
Parking is relatively easy in the area… you’ll probably have the most trouble just finding the stadium. It is located right in between two rail lines — one a freight line and the other a Metra passenger station. But if you can find it, try it. Security is nice in the area… the park is great for kids… besides sky boxes and regular stadium seats, there are two lawn berms — one down each of the outfield lines for sitting in the grass.
Lots of concessions, lots of beer, and many different event places around the park. One can rent out rooms or boxes or patio decks for various functions — during baseball season or not. The Miller Patio Deck out in right field looks especially attractive — can be used for sit down dining while you watch a baseball game, or a more cocktail friendly party all night long.
The other Frontier League field in the area is Standard Bank Field in Crestwood — it seats fewer patrons but the seating is closer to the action. Silver Cross seats more but is not as close to the action… it is set up more like a professional baseball park. Either way make sure to give this one a try this summer — you’ll be glad you did.

Surprisingly great place to catch a game! Nice stadium, good food selection, overall really fun!

It was Beatlemania night last night at Silver Cross Field… quite possibly the best kept «secret» if you’re a baseball fan in the southwest suburbs.
There’s a new team in town this year making SCF it’s home: the Joliet Slammers. Great new name, logo & team uniforms makes for an exciting start to a (hopefully) very long tenure at «the yard» in a very cool city that’s, unfortunately, fallen upon hard times. And the Slammers are a first place team, too! Not bad, ‘eh?
The architecture of the Park’s exterior reminds me a lot of Coors Field in CO, which is a nice urban mix of brick and metal. Once inside, I think you’ll find that they pay particularly close attention to providing clean seats, clean bathrooms and a clean concourse as well. Pricing is a very attractive feature, too, especially if you have a family to entertain for the evening. Bottle beer was $ 4.50 and every seat in the house is only $ 10. (we sat in the second row right behind the visitor’s dugout, and bought seats right before the game) & only $ 7 if you want to sit on the lawn. Very economical when you consider the rough economy we’re all dealing with these days.
Overall, I think you’ll find the words «Fan Friendly» best describes a visit here, whether it be in the goofy contests they have between innings, or even the way the ball players themselves appreciate the fans. There were four kids sitting in the row in front of us and the players made sure each one of them left that night with a game ball in their gloves. How cool is that? These guys are there for the love of the game and it shows in their play and attitude toward the fans. You’re not going to see THESE guys going on strike because they’re not making enough millions… but you will see them staying after the game to sign an autograph for any little boy or girl who asks them to.
Oh, and Beatlemania Night? What better medley to play for the free fireworks show after the game? Everyone, young and old, wanted to twist and shout as the skies lit up with brilliant color and explosions above.
Just a great night, last night, and I can’t wait to go back… plus, it’s so close to home that I just might tonight!

While Silver Cross Field houses the Joliet Jackhammers, this is a great place to come and watch a baseball game! When I came here, it was for a Charity softball game, but I’m sure that it would be equally great for a Jackhammers game!
I also believe that this is a great place to bring your smaller children as well as this park is very family oriented, and fan friendly. Food is your typical ball park fare, and overall, the park is VERY clean. Parking isn’t too far away, and tickets are cheap! Highly recommended!
