The Dunes At Maui Lani Golf Course

This was such a fun course to play, and very reasonably priced compared to the resort courses. It’s near the airport, but the planes on final approach are not at all bothersome. The course is well kept, and short enough to be fun without beating you up while you’re on vacation, and yet still challenging. Be sure to leave time for a snack or meal in the restaurant afterwards. We had the pork quesadilla, it was delicious and enough to share for a late lunch.

We have played here every day of our vacation. My twin 8-​year-​old boys and I have been treated so well. Every single person who works here is extremely nice and helpful. The course is gorgeous and prices incredibly reasonable. Highlight of our vacation.

Waste of time and $…all the greens were under some form of repair. To be fair they had just experienced a major storm and a lot of the repairs had to do with the storm. We ere never told the extent of the damage in the Pro Shop when we paid our green fees. To be honest it appeared that she should have just shut the course down and reopened once the repairs had been completed

Firstly this course is only $ 40 for Kamaaina. so you can’t beat that price especially for Maui. As for the play itself… this was probably one of the best courses i have ever been to. I guess I’m so used to playing in Oahu on the West side that its so cool to play on a bunch of dunes and hills. Its challenging, as the course is kind of narrow and half the time you can’t see where your ball lands since you have to hit it over hills but it is so much fun! The par 3’s are short so you should probably walk away with at least one par… if you are as bad as me. The play is pretty fast and its constantly interesting. I would recommend this course to anyone in the Kahalui area looking for something thats somewhat challenging but still extremely fun

You pay for what you get. We drove at least 1 hour round trip to make the trek to this golf course from Ka’anapali. Overall the layout was surprisingly challenging but I was very disappointed w/​the greens — they weren’t real grass :(
The staff here is very nice. We were very fortunate to play as a two some even though it was a relatively crowded week day. We paid about $ 60/​round which is considered cheaper on the island but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it … maybe for a beginner.

Dunes offer so much more without costing you an arm and a leg. If you come play here on Tues and Thurs, their rate is $ 65 and kamaina is $ 35. For $ 65, trust me. This course is so worth it.
We played here the day before we played Kapalua Plantation Golf course to get a feel of the trade wind. I ended up loving this course. You simply can’t beat the price.
Their fairways are tight. REAL TIGHT. The golf course is well maintained and the staff is real friendly.
I will play this golf course again if I return to Maui. No doubt.

I wasn’t sure what to expect of this course as I’m an intermediate golfer. I have to say the people, starting with the starter, are some of the nicest on the island. The holes are incredibly fun, really unique, an unlike any others on the island. My wife was a rider and enjoyed the views and the ducks, nenes, and other birds. Great spot you definitely should try it

Fun golf course. Greens play true and fairways are well maintained. Service was very accommodating. Playing 1^st thing in the AM was a treat. 3 hr round with amazing mountain views from every hole. $ 65 Tuesday/​Thursday special added to the whole experience.

I wanted to take my son birthday golfing in Maui and knew I was looking at 300.00+ for the day. In light of this, I started looking for courses that are a deal. The Dunes came up as not only one of the best deals in Maui, but it was voted one of the top 5 best deals in AMERICA back in 1999. Courses do not change that much in 15 years and it still is a great deal today. I asked the starter and the course is normally a 120.00 round and I would pay that. I happened to book via an online and played twilight so I played for less than 65 for both my son and I. Killer deal.
This course is challenging. Just because it is a lower priced course, the only thing you are missing is being on the coast. I personally did not care. The surroundings are beautiful and there are some ocean views. We played an entire round with no one in front of us. And the course was in better shape than any course in CA I’ve played in the last 10 years.
The staff is so nice. I came in a tank top and the starter gave me a shirt to wear so they saved me another 90.00 being that I was fully expecting to buy a shirts. The pro shop cashiers name was Christine and she had her birthday on the same day as my son and I (we share our bdays) and was so excited she started laughing and telling everyone in the place that the three of us were having our birthdays together. She really made our birthday celebration unique. She gave us free bag tags which was very special to my 14 year old. They were the NICEST people on the island and I really felt welcomed.
I hope that you go an experience the all around great feeling at this course. I consider them my Ohana. Thank you Dunes for such a wonderful experience! I will be back!

I have been there once my first time with a group of ppl during lunch hour and even though we had rez. We waited about 5 minutes to get the tables arranged and cleared. We had drinks and service was busy that day. But we all enjoyed our meals and the server was very accomodating. I plan to go back again with my spouse to try other menu dishes. I had the Mahimahi ;)

Was a little unsure about this course as we warmed up at the driving range. The turf was awful! We got going though and it turned out to be a beautiful and challenging course! Be sure not to accidentally tee up on 17 instead of 3! (We accidentally missed a sign… whoops!). We are high handicappers and I shot a 109 and the boyfriend shot a 110. Apparently he left his swing at home that day (his words).

I have played every course on the island. Most of them quite a few times. I have played The Dunes at least a dozen times. I read the negative reviews and can understand why you can have a bad day here.
The Dunes is not the greatest, manicured course on the Island. Many of the upmarket resort courses are in far better shape, but they will set you back $ 200+. What The Dunes is, is a well looked after course that is very reasonably priced BUT it is easily the hardest course on the island and may well be the hardest in the state. It takes no prisoners. You need every club in your bag. You need to hit it straight and long. You need to putt and chip at your best. From a true golfers point of view, this is one of the hardest challenges you will face. If you get to play it on a windless day you are blessed and you might break 80 from the blues!
I have a 2 handicap and breaking 80 in the wind here with no mulligans or gimmes is no easy feat. I play The Dunes in preference to any course on the Island. Kapalua plantation course is way easier!

Best value on Maui. Period.
Challenging, links style course. Well maintained. Fair for all skill levels. Excellent driving range to get warmed up. Staff very friendly.
For $ 70 its a steal. Go ahead and pay 2 or 3 times that amount so you can say you played Kapalua, Kanaapali, or the other over priced resort courses. I play this course every time I’m on Maui and am never disappointed.
A must play if you are on Maui. If money isn’t an object, resort courses are nice. Don’t let the price tag fool you, this course is top notch.

Hmm, how to review a golf course being a former part-​time golfer… There are a lot of sand traps (as the name suggests!) Nice course for being in central Maui. Pricing is a little cheaper than resort courses I believe. There’s also a driving range and Kahului’s only Café O’Lei restaurant.

What can I say… I love golf regardless of the circumstances, yet the Dunes course at Lani does everything within their power to make it a little easier to fall in love even more with this frustrating past time.
Arrival & warm up–
I arrived to the course right at tee time, I had zero equipment with me, and my wife was riding along even though she wasn’t going to play. I would have been considered a high maintenance golfer at any other course because of these factors. Thankfully there was only 3 total cars in the parking lot and the course was wide open at 730 am on a Thursday morning. However, upon presenting the potential bad news at the pro shop, I was surprised to see a smile followed by a «no problem!»
The starter was extremely happy to fit me for some rental clubs that only cost $ 25. They were Nike Slingshot irons, Nike SQ Driver and woods, forged Nike wedges, and a basic Nike putter. My tee time was at 730 and at no fault but my own, it was already 745. The starter said «since its slow you’re welcome to head over to the range and get use to the rental clubs». I took about 15 minutes at the range and felt comfortable enough to head out on the course.
Course–
It was a true pleasure playing such a beautiful and well thought out track. The course is an «Out and Back» style course which means the only time you’ll see the clubhouse is on the 1^st and 18^th hole, kinda like St. Andrews Old Course. The Dunes Course can be your best friend IF the winds are calm and your worst enemy WHEN the winds arrive. Besides the wind, I found the course to be somewhat narrow in certain places which could become a challenge in any conditions. Another surprise to me was how hilly the course was, which made the experience that much more enjoyable. The greens were consistent and the tee boxes along with the fairways were pristine. The 6^th hole seemed to be the signature hole and a personal favorite of mine. I initially was discouraged to see that the carts didn’t have GPS since it was my first time playing here. I was as equally excited to see that the scorecards broke the course down with tips and yardages for every hole which became a lifesaver. I shot a 10 over 82 which I thought was amazing considering that it was my first time playing the course and it was on rental clubs.
Conclusion–
Personally, if someone mentioned to me before this trip about golfing in Maui I’d think of ocean views and slow play. The Dunes Course at Lani changed my whole perspective on the standard of Maui golf. I didn’t see the ocean once and I finished in about 3 hours. For around $ 100 I played a challenging course with rental clubs and my wife in the cart with me. True value and great course and unforgettable memories. Thank You

Love this place! The restaurant is clean and inviting. You have a choice of sitting either inside or outside. The service is excellent and most importantly, so is the FOOD! This is a great place to go for a girls night out, date night, or family night. Food is affordable and decent portions. Favorite restaurant on the island.

Forget best course on the island, even best course in the state. This is one of the best golf courses in the country. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. The staff is incredibly friendly, the course is in great condition, it’s a very challenging course to play yet still fair, there are some amazing views, the food at the restaurant is inexpensive and delicious, I could go on and on. Forget Kapalua, Wailea, Kaanapali, please do yourself a favor and play this course.

This is my favorite golf course on the island. As with all courses, the service is great, they come to your car to get your clubs if you don’t do a drop. The first 2 holes are just blah… then you start into the dunes… the holes after are all beautiful, most surrounded by trees. They are narrow, so watch your club selection. Make sure you look into your scorecard, it is a book with descriptions of every hole and where to hit it. There is a nice cross breeze in the dunes so keeps you cool.
On the day we played, there were no one in front of us or behind us. We actually ran into a beer cart after the 9^th and she told us that there were only 10 people playing that day. We pratically had the whole course to ourselves.
I want to note that they do not provide ice chest with ice and water, so make sure you bring your own.
For one of the cheapest course, this is one of the best.

This is a very challenging course. Fairways are narrow and the course is very hilly. The Dunes is in the middle of what used to be a pineapple field. As the name implies, if you don’t hit it straight, you’ll encounter alot of dunes (if there is such a thing on a tropical island).
At the 19^th hole, they’ve got a great restaurant, Café O“Lei. Don’t just have a cold one. They serve up a great gourmet burger. Cooked medium and moist. Golfers and non golfers alike dine here for lunch and/​or dinner. We enjoyed the food so much, we came back to eat dinner prior to taking our red eye flight back to the mainland.

Until a recent experience at Bedford Springs this was my finest hour on a golf course this year. A spectacular golf course in a beautiful location. I was fortunate when I came here to be paired with two locals who play here every weekend and they were full of tips and suggestions — some of which I was even able to execute against.
It’s a wee bit pricey if you are not a local — but what the hell — it is is Hawaii and it is gorgeous so what can you expect.
The views are magnificent– from the ocean to the mountains and everything in between — even if you are not a golfer you should should come here to take a look.
The service is also incredible — and whebn you look at what you get for what you pay is really is a tremendous value.
