Hale Kona Kai

This place is perfect for a rental condo. From the fourth floor we had an excellent view of the ocean and sea turtles right beneath our balcony. Adeline in the front office is very caring and personable. The A/​C was a welcome relief from the unusual amount of heat and humidity when we were there. The unit was very clean, well stocked with towels, dishes, coffeemaker, etc., as well as a few books and DVDs (and DVD player), and internet access. It’s walking distance to the shops and restaurants along Ali’i Drive. A reserved parking spot came with the rental, and washers/​dryers are available on each floor. We didn’t use the pool, but did see someone cleaning it frequently.
The only complaint (if you can call it that) is that the washer and dryer only accept quarters and there’s no change machine on site. Overall, we spent a very happy week here.

. Updated, quiet, clean, well-​stocked, 1-​bedroom unit. Well under $ 200 a night! Covered parking, literally next to the ocean, great pool, immaculately maintained complex. In walking distance of many bars, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.
You will not be dissapointed!

We researched tons of properties for our stay on the Big Island, and settled on this one after reading reviews online. I am happy to say everything was exactly as advertised! Our condo overlooked the Pacific Ocean, and we spent hours on our lovely balcony. The place itself was clean and comfortable, with tons of extra towels, sheets, and even beach chairs and a beach umbrella we used all over the island. The location and proximity to everything in Kona cannot be beat. We will definitely be back on our next trip to the Big Island.

Great location ! The condo was clean and had everything that we could need including some extras so that we did not have to purchase anything else for our trip. We were right on the ocean and had a great view of that and we were close enough to walk to downtown Kona. It was ideal! The condo is also well located for touring the great beaches on this island as well as one of the best snorkel spots. I would certainly recommend this condo and I would consider coming back.

I decided on Hale Kona Kai for the location and oceanfront views. We stayed a week at Hale Kona Kai #201 in October 2012. Very affordable way to stay in Kailua-​Kona. I’m always a little worried when booking a private property but this property exceeded my expectations.
#201 is a one bedroom, corner unit with a giant oceanfront lanai = spectacular views. The condo is well maintained, clean and furnished nicely. Parking is convenient, right under the condo in a covered, designated space. Within easy walking distance to restaurants and shopping.

Great affordable place to stay.
The location can’t be beat. Walking distance from all the restaurants/​shops, reserved parking and well set up condos. The lanai was amazing. what a great way to start the day. The laundry was easy to use. My only complaint is the beaches around the condo are weak. They were OK, but for Hawaii I wanted to be dazzled. We ended up driving to the beach each day (Hapuna Beach). If there was a beach on the property it would be unbeatable!!! The pool was very nice and clean.

Has everything you’re looking for within walking distance… centrally located… assigned parking… great choice

Saw this actually through tripadvisor. and made a friend to boot. We actually met at Don the Beachcomber as she was leaving to go back home while I was just showing up at the condo.
We stayed in the corner (double lanai) on the top floor… absolutely wonderful.
I felt like I was actually on board a ship because that is all I could see for miles was ocean, ocean, ocean. And that is all we could hear the whole time was this incredible ocean sound. and it was in the ears. so, so relaxing to sleep to…
The condo itself was clean, the king bed was very comfy, the shower had good hot water and good water pressure. The kitchen had everything you needed. It was not fancy but then we did not pay for fancy. Every floor has a washer/​dryer for your convenience. And yes an elevator.
It was close to everything. so we could just walk up and down the strip to feast on all the food there.
Saw honu below and lots of dolphins all the time jumping. I am not kidding!

For our first few days on the Big Island, we stayed in the Hale Kona Kai (House by the Sea) Condominiums. I was quite sick for the entire stay, and the comforts of the condos were definitely much appreciated.
The condos are not much to look at from the outside, but the inside (and the view) makes up for that. The condos are individually owned and ours was very well-​maintained. We stayed in room #405 and loved it. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you might need to cook a meal or serve a small army: pots, pans, coffee maker, utensils, plates, bowls, etc. I couldn’t eat, but Pete took advantage of this and made himself most meals (what a bad wife I am). Having a fridge, stove, dishwasher, etc. is really helpful at cutting down spending money here and the Sack and Save grocery store was close by. It’s also really helpful when your wife can’t leave the room for more than 5 minutes.
The view from the lanai was unbeatable. We looked down into small tide pools and at different points in the day saw either sea turtles, eels, or birds feeding on small fish. There is a pool at the condos right near the ocean, but we didn’t get a chance to use it.
Pete was able to get out and explore a bit, and the Hale Kona Kai is within short walking distance to restaurants and shopping in a tourist area along the main street. In the morning there was a coffee cart serving Kona coffee right up the street, as well as a smoothie shop and a snorkel rental area.
Hale Kona Kai was extremely reasonable compared to many of the hotels in the area, and the added benefit of being able to cook in if you want to was definitely helpful. The location is perfect. I would go back if we are ever in this area again.

Great condo rentals. Such a nice location, right on the water, and our unit was very comfortably furnished. Throw in a flat-​panel TV, sunset views, and walking distance to the water-​front shops and restaurants of the main drag in Kona, and this is an outstanding value.
