The new bride and I enjoyed four night at Nancy’s Nahele Cottage. After 4 nights on Oahu a few nights in the cloud forest were exactly what we were looking for, and we found it! The cottage(and Nancy) provided privacy, seclusion, fresh breakfast, a beautiful yard and view and great information about the area. Kona is a short drive away. The cottage was immaculately clean and the cool evenings were beautiful. If we ever have the opportunity to come back to Hawai’i we will definitely be looking to stay at Nancy’s again.

It was a nice place to stay. Nancy was a good hostess and stocked our room up with nice banana bread, blueberry muffins, Bagel and cream cheese, and fresh fruits for breakfast. The room was also cleaned up nicely when we returned at the end of the day. The garden was beautiful but it was shared with the other cottage. It was fun to see the Pheasants flying around in the garden and Nancy’s pet cats(oh, please watch out for them when you are driving in and out). It was a good stay overall. Our cottage was advertised to have an «Ocean view» and the website had some pictures showing a nearby beach. This was absolutely misleading as the ocean was miles away from this place(yeah sure, it had an ocean view but just because it was up on an elevation and you could see the ocean doesn’t quite make it an ocean view).

I’m a repeat customer at Nancy’s. First time was in 2000 and the second just a week ago in 2009. Its been a decade yet what is good about it has remained the same. You are very hid away there. You’re up 2000+ feet from the coast. Its serenely quiet at night. You can sleep with the windows open. Its up high so the air is cool at night so you may want to leave them open. As you rise up above the Kona Coast there climate changes from humid beach, to arid volcanic dessert to ‘cloud forest’. I would describe a cloud forest as a forest in a humid fog which is cool and humid because of the altitude. Hence, cloud forest. The hideaway feels tropical. Nancy rescues birds so there are birds out back, meowing back at the cats. There are also Nene birds about and the occasional peacock. A great place to retreat to and recharge. And of course you are a 10 minute drive down to Kona if you want to go.

hideaway is the key word! terrific little bed and breakfast way off the beaten path in kailua-kona. awesome views of the kona bay far away from the hustle-bustle of the touristy areas, nestled up in the hillside above kona in a residential neighborhood. comfortable and well-appointed rooms with tasty(cold) breakfasts prepared the day before and stored in the room’s refrigerator. nancy keeps a peaceful sanctuary, complete with friendly house cats who will keep you company as you enjoy your breakfast on the front porch of your room. very highly recommended!
