If you live or work in Windward Oahu, you know the location of this famous intersection which lies at the entrance of Kailua and Kaneohe. Approaching from town via the Pali Tunnels, Castle Junction is the first traffic light after you exit the 2 tunnels and survive the hairpin turn. If you stay in the right two lanes, you head straight into Kailua. Stay in the left turn lanes, you head into Kaneohe. Turning right onto Aoloa takes you to Maunawili — an awesome driving experience if you enjoy the numerous twists and turns. Watch out for skateboarders who sometimes brave this road. While you’re at the traffic light, check out the numerous feral hens, roosters, and chicks and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Much like the Pali Tunnels, how do you rate an intersection?!? LOL! Well, for major intersections, this one moves traffic very well. You won’t get hung up here very often.

People who still can’t figure out that the left turning lane going to Kailua in the am is only one lane should stay off the road because their idoits or a holes… get off the roads so that people trying to get to town don’t have to put up with your king of the road mentalities..

Five stars. One of the main artery intersections into Kailua & Kaneohe. The intersection connects Kamehameha Highway, Pali Highway, Kalanianaole Highway, and Auloa Road. Kamehameha Highway directs you to Kaneohe town and the north shore direction. Pali Highway directs you back to Honolulu town. Kalanianaole Highway directs you to Kailua and Waimanalo towns. Auloa Road directs you to the Maunawili neighborhood and eventually into Kailua and/or Waimanalo. The Castle Junction War Memorial is nearby too, remembering our military veterans who have the ultimate sacrifice for our country. When the traffic light goes out here, directing traffic in the driving rain or supreme heat can be a real challenge to Honolulu’s Finest. So much traffic, comes through this intersection. As always, utilize caution when driving through this intersection and approaching it. Drive safely and don’t speed. Drive with Aloha!
