History

Established in 1995.

Jim VandenBerg purchased Maple Hill in 1995. In the past 16+ years we have gained and lost franchises, but still managed to grow. We are proud to be a Kalamazoo dealership, and we take pride in giving back to the community that we live and work in. A few years back we re-​allotted a large amount of our advertising dollars to be used in the community. Now we are proud to be an integral part of over 20 community events throughout the year. Jim has always been a big advocate for making people feel like they were part of our family… Whether that is our staff being a big family, our customers being treated like family, or taking care of our community like they are one big part of our Maple Hill Family. We like to think we do things differently here– and we’d love the chance to show you!

Business Owner

Jim was born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI. He graduated from Loy Norrix High School and then Hope College. He started in the Auto Industry in 1982 in Holland, Michigan. He then became the District Manager for Mazda Great Lakes in both Michigan and Ohio. He moved back to his hometown of Kalamazoo in 1995 when he purchased Maple Hill. It was then a Chrysler, Plymouth, Hyundai & Volvo dealership. Over the years he has purchased Volkswagen, Audi and Subaru– which now makes up Maple Hill Auto Group. He has been the president of the Kalamazoo New Car Dealers Board, has served 8 years on the Michigan Auto Dealers Board, 10 years as the Subaru National Dealer Advisory Board, 11 years as Chairman of the Great Lakes Subaru Dealers Regional Board and 4 years as the Representative for the Hyundai Regional Board. Jim resides in Kalamazoo area with his wife and two daughters. Jim is also very active in the Kalamazoo Community– being the leader in Maple Hill’s support of local charities and events.
