Olde Peninsula Brewpub & Restaurant

I’m all set. For what I got, versus what I paid, I wish I had heeded my past decision to skip it. This nails us off. $ 30 for a plate of Nachos, a Chicken Sub, and a beer. God damn it. But it’s fine. I’ll pay it and leave and that will be that. Tomorrow I’ll be sick, because I forgot that too. The ketchup was nearly out and covered in filthy unknown sticky residue. I had to wash my hands after handling the bottle.
I’ll spend tonight trying to not think about what I ate.

Second time to eat here and it will be my last. Cheese curds were cold in the middle, fish taco’s terrible, no taste at all, hamburger was well done when it was ordered medium rare and cheese soup was like warm, tasted sour and had hard crunchy carrots in it. Beer was the only good thing.

The beer selection is great. The ghost pepper stout was yummy. My salmon burger was a little too over cooked, though.

Stopped in with a group of 6 while in town for a class. It was an ok experience. We got fried pickles and an order of the brew dip for appetizers. The fried pickles were really good. Best part of the meal actually. The brew dip was ok. I was hoping for more after reading the reviews of how amazing it is, but yeah, it was just ok. A few people at the table had burgers, they seemed to like them. I got the fish and chips.
I should preface by saying I grew up on Lake Michigan, and had perch almost every Friday growing up; so I’m a fairly good judge of perch. This was ok, kind of fishy, and I got a few bones. I could deal with ‘ok’ fish; but the tarter sauce was terrible. It had a heat to it and was tinged pink, maybe had chilli powder in it? They had a lot of items on the menu that had a Japanese chilli pepper included (togarishi? I think that was the name), so maybe they had that mixed in the tarter sauce? Either way, it was not good. Coleslaw was so-​so as well.
As for the atmosphere — it was a typical brew pub type place. Lots of faux old advertising signs. It is an old building with some very neat architecture though. Quite loud though. Not sure I would bother going again when I’m in kzoo next.

Nasty. Menu descriptions do not match what was ordered. Small and inadequate portions relative to price. I feel like maybe they were going for a gastro pub feel –but when your food doesn’t have the quality or complexity, you cannot charge those prices. My husband was also not impressed and we eat pretty much anything. Our food went unfinished –which has literally never happened in the 5 years we’ve been together.

First place I ate in town when in Kalamazoo for a business trip… The London Broil is the BOMB! Service was great and I would highly recommend the Razberry Wheat Beer.

Nice restaurant with friendly employees. Great cheeseburgers and fast service! I recommend the Olde Smokey Burger.

This was always one of my go to place when I was in college for beers and late night bar food. After graduating and moving away I found myself craving the brewpub dip so badly that I’d eventually drive the 2 hours there on a whim to grab some every so often. I can say the BBQ burger is amazing, the loaded fries and yum, and the reuben was my top favorite. Obviously also the brewpub dip too. I was actually not a fan of their house brewed beers but, they were terrible. I liked the atmosphere there too. It was a great date night and always easy to get a table.

We ordered a few steaks, it was New Year’s Eve, and they were busy, but they were very undercooked. Looks like they flash cooked them on each side to appear done, but when you cut in, totally uncooked. I understand a busy restaurant, but you shouldn’t serve undercooked meat.

Love this place! I go here every time I come to Kalamazoo. Great booze, great food, great service, great interior, clean bathrooms, plenty of parking!

This review is going to kill me… Olde Peninsula used to be one of my favorite places in Kalamazoo. The drinks, appetizers, entrees, all great. I’ll admit that it’s been probably two years since I’d been back, but my recent visit had me so excited. Not only was I going to get to indulge in one of my favorite pastimes, but I was sharing it with some out of town guests. It was subpar. All of it. The burgers that were order medium cane out so well done that it could qualify as burnt. My husband’s rare steak was medium well at best. They ran out of onion rings for appetizers. The service was awful. The waiter wanted to be anywhere else and it was so painfully awkward. I apologized profusely to our guests and promised to never take them there again.
I hate to say it, but Olde Peninsula seems to have become the type of place where you sit at the bar to order some drinks and perhaps an appetizer. Don’t waste your money on dinner. The only silver lining was that the Brew Pub Dip was as amazing as I remembered.

We make a trip to Kalamazoo around this time each year, specifically to stop at Olde Peninsula, have dinner and fill a growler of their pumpkin beer. We have always had a great experience… until tonight. So very disappointed in the service. Not only did the server not know what seasonal beers were available, but 3 of our 4 dinners came out with errors.
My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich and received what appeared to be something like a turkey club. After pointing out the mistake to the server, she insisted it was the correct sandwich. When we disagreed, she went to check the order with the kitchen. Upon her return she again insisted that it was correct. We continued to hold our ground so she went to get a menu and asked us to confirm that we ordered a pulled pork dinner (well, the sandwich in front of us doesn’t look like a dinner). She finally removed the sandwich and went back to the kitchen to get the sandwich that we ordered.
I ordered a side of brussel sprouts (yeah, I know… not a popular choice but she raved about them when I was ordering, so I thought I would give them a try). I was served a side of squash. I asked about the brussel sprouts and she apologized and said she would go get them… they never appeared at our table.
My 10 year old ordered a kids burger with cheese, pickles & tomato. Received a burger with cheese only.
My 6 year old ordered a hotdog and refused to eat it because it, «tasted funny». I don’t blame the restaurant for that, but just added to the frustrating experience.
Not sure what was going on tonight, but while at our table we also heard 2 other tables complaining about mistakes. After 10 years of patronage, I wonder if we will bother making the hour long drive there anymore.

This used to be the first stop every time my parents came to visit me while in college @ WMU. Decent sandwiches and pretty underrated beer! This time I came back as a visitor since graduating years ago and missing Kalamazoo.
We stopped in for lunch on our way home from South Haven. It was just as I remembered it, dark, cool, and unchanged. We sat in a booth and it took probably 10– 15 minutes for our server to attend to us but I didn’t mind. We ordered their pumpkin ale (really good!) and I got the pumpkin ale mixed with their midnight stout (again this was awesome!). We then split a generous lunch salad with grilled steak in top. The steak was very tender and cooked medium so it was juicy. My date had the tomato basil soup, which was quite thick like a homemade spaghetti sauce but decent flavor. I ordered the Cuban sandwich which came on their beer bread and included pepperoni in it. It was a sweet yet spicy sandwich that came with pub chips. Definitely satisfied my appetite but the beer is what OP brings to the table! Love their beers and will always go back to imbibe, especially when they mix their beers which can be excellent! I recommend mixing pretty much anything with their midnight stout. It’s perfect.

Great service. Pretty good beer. Okay food. We had the pepper corn garlic steak and the spinach fettuccine. Both were unremarkable. The salads were good. Just a solid 3. Not bad but it just didn’t live up to the description in the menu. Flavor was flat, lacking any of the boldness described.

Stopped in here for lunch the other day.
It was a quiet afternoon, seat yourself. Good atmosphere with a very large window looking right into the brewing space. Server was nice and very knowledgeable about the menu options. My peoples and I all ended up ordering sandwich style meals– a wrap, burger, and a Reuben. The only suggestion we all ended up having was regarding the bread quality. The ingredients in the sandwich were super tasty, but the marbled rye, the wrap, and the bun all lacked luster. I sound like a food snob because I couldn’t help but feel like the sandwich went down a couple notches just because of the bread. Really enjoyed their Scottish Ale! Mon-​Fri 3 – 6 & 10-​close happy hour deals are pretty rockin’ too.$ 3.25 pints, $ 6.25 1 liter «gustos», and $ 4.25−22oz «Giant & Call Liquor Drinks!

This was the first restaurant I had ever been to on my first day in Kalamazoo. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but figured it would have general bar or pub food, and a decent beer selection.
I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap, and it was actually really good! The prices are reasonable, and the service is just fine. Having been there a couple of times now, I’ve had servers who seem to care, and others who seem bored. It’s fine; as long as you’re not rude or slow, I don’t care how bored you are. (But, also, I shouldn’t really notice how bored you are). In general, though, I don’t have any complaints.
Their beer selection is pretty good, too! I like their raspberry ale, and have also had good luck with some of their other lighter, wheat beers.
If you’re going just to have a couple of beers on a Friday or Saturday night, order the pub mix (which is essentially chex mix) — it’s served warm, and it a perfect addition to your beers!

I really like the heart of downtown K-​zoo where the Olde Peninsula is located — loaded with well maintained turn-​of-​the-​century brick facades — a great spot for a Brew Pub!
Visited for dinner mid-​week and wasn’t surprised that the pub wasn’t very busy. We had our minds locked on some savory barbecued chicken wings (bone –in of course) and some of their highly touted brew. Unfortunately, the «Olde Pen» only offers the «boneless» variety of wings. We were devastated! Rather than pick up and drive across town to Buffalo Wild Wings, we decided to split a pound of the boneless wings and took a shot with what the Olde Pen calls their «Beer-​B-​Que» sauce.
Although their «wings» were really small squares of chicken breast lightly breaded and deep fried, they were absolutely delicious with the Peninsula’s original amber-​colored Beer-​B-​Que sauce. Excellent!
Having lived in Buffalo, NY for 8 years where wings were invented, eating boneless wings was always considered blasphemy. This is the only version of a boneless wing that I could actually recommend. Nice job!

The pizza horrible, it doctored up Sisco or GFS pizza. The wings and beer average. Very loud too.

A big disappointment. Nice menu and decent prices, but the food was below average for a brew pub and service we received was cringe-​worthy. Our waitress was more interested in chatting with the hostess, leaving our group of four with empty glasses and lots of dining ware.
While my dining partner and lovely wife have been known to be indecisive with lots of menu items, a suggestion would have been nice. «Um, I don’t know… I guess that is pretty good» was the standard response from our gum-​chomping, oft-​distracted server. We are in your establishment to eat good food and spend money — PLEASE MAKE A RECOMMENDATION!
If you don’t know anything about the beer you serve, why not ask the also-​bored bartender to stop by and provide some knowledge or recommendation? I’m a big boy, so I chose a few styles I generally enjoy (flight of 5 6-​oz. samples was a steal at $ 7), and got on with enjoying a nice conversation with some good folks I don’t get to see often enough.
For what should have been a crowded Friday night, OP was strangely dead. It’s too bad, because the menu is extensive and I am sure I would have enjoyed any other dish with a much needed recommendation. I think I’ve got the answer for the lack of a crowd –a sad service experience indeed.

Went here with the boo as part of our random Kalamazoo road trip. We had dinner here and thought we’d just sample a couple of their homemade brews but we didn’t have any high expectations.
We ordered the fried egg and bacon burger. LAWD HAVE MERCY!!! That had to be one of the best burgers I’d ever had! Cooked and seasoned to perfection! Everything about it was amazing!
Oh and the beer was kinda awesome too! We had a wheat and a porter respectively. Both were equally amazing. Then we decided we wanted to try some of their more interesting beers. I tried their chocolate stout. Pretty good. Not the best I’ve had but certainly not the worse. The boy (being the glutton for punishment that he is) got their beer called the scorpion. It’s a darker beer brewed with hot peppers. Instant heartburn. Lol!
