Wedel’s Nursery, Florist and Garden Center had its beginning in 1946 when Harley Wedel opened a produce store at 1832 S. Westnedge, the North end of Westnedge Hill in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In March, 2001, Wedel’s Nursery, Florist and Garden Center opened Southwest Michigan’s Premier Horticultural Center at 5020 Texas Dr.

History

Established in 1946.

Wedel’s Nursery, Florist and Garden Center had its beginning in 1946 when Harley Wedel opened a produce store at 1832 S. Westnedge, the North end of Westnedge Hill. From the family farm in Portage Township, produce from forty acres of sweet corn, squash, melons, and fruit from the orchard was taken into Kalamazoo and sold at «Wedel’s Fruit and Produce Store».

In 1953 some evergreens, trees and shrubs were planted behind one of the farm sheds. Harley soon had the love of plants in his blood and it wasn’t long before he put his entire effort into the nursery business.

Manager

Andy Wedel represents the third generation of Wedels with a passion for plants of all kinds. From the time he was a small boy he learned about growing and maintaining gardens, lawns and landscapes at his father’s side just as his father, George, learned from his father, Harley.

As has always been the goal of each generation of Wedels so it is with Andy; seeing to it you have everything you need to ensure success with all of your green-​thumb projects. Andy loves working with plants but he loves, just as much, working with you so you will find as much enjoyment working in the landscape as he does. He has an entire team at Wedel’s looking forward to helping you!
