André’s Confiserie Suisse

Came here for the macarons specifically and left satisfied! While they weren’t as airy as some I’ve had before, the flavor was still great. The strawberry one had puréed strawberries in the center and it was packed with flavor. The service was nice and the ambiance was clean and casual. In addition to their sweet treats treats they also serve savory items as well as coffee and wine.

Stopped in today to check out Andre’s after hearing rave reviews from friends. I didn’t eat a meal there, but did get some pastries to go. I asked for them to pick out a few to try, and they were all excellent. One was a cake roll with vanilla mouse and hazelnut marzipan. I saw coconut Macaroons and picked up two of them, one with milk chocolate and one without. It was all delicious. The only pastry I didn’t care for was the apricot cake. It was a little dry for my liking, but it was that cake style.

My wife and I love Andres. Great coffee, awesome desserts, and solid food. Every time we’ve been here the service has been awesome so we are really happy to support the business. We love having a place like this in KC

Ok. So I have been in Kansas City for over 2 years and for some reason I didn’t find out about this gem of a bakery/​chocolaterie till today.
It’s European style chocolate, don’t expect the stifling sweetness most American candy and baked goods have. The truffles are the same as other good truffles but the marzipan and meringue confections are amazing. Nice bar with simple wine selection and espresso if you want to sit down and enjoy. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about the things they serve.
Plan to go there again.

I met s few girlfriends for lunch on a Monday afternoon. They offer a limited menu on Mondays in the front of the store, but there is still plenty to choose from. I enjoyed a ham and cheese sandwich on a delicious French roll. When you order coffee or tea it is served with a piece of chocolate! The portions are on the smaller side, but that allows plenty of room for a dessert! I couldn’t resist; I enjoyed a delicious pastry/​cake of some sort. I can’t imagine you could go wrong with anything from their selection of pastries, cookies, tarts, chocolates etc. This is a lovely place for a ladies lunch.

Do you wish to go beyond the standard fair of a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory? Do you want a romantic Valentine’s gift that goes beyond a box of mere chocolates? Then Andre’s is for you.

Let’s get some negatives out of the way: The sample sizes have increased whereas years ago everything was nearly bite-​sized. When balancing the price of each item, one finds that the wallet doesn’t meet one’s appetite when attempting to peruse the tortes and truffles and cakes. Each confection is treated with care, so the prices are justified.
Parking is limited due to nearby apartments, so during lunch there can be a bit of a wait.
Grabbing an assortment to go is often-​times a necessity.
The staff is professional as friendliness isn’t how I would describe the behavior here. A smile occasionally, yet the staff seems more occupied with grabbing the chocolates selected instead having a conversation to determine what other choices might be best. This part of the experience has been relatively consistent. A very cut-​and-​dry, leave the chit-​chat at home mentality, but a minor quibble in the end.
The chocolates and other confections speak for themselves. Beautiful, melt-​in-​your-​mouth truffles await consumption. Delicious tortes, tarts, cakes; everything one could want after a delicious meal at a fine dining establishment is here.
A final reminder: Andre’s is for savoring each nibble, it is not a place to go if you need a hearty, filling meal. Go to The Capital Grille or Bristol’s, walk around the plaza, and come to Andre’s a couple of hours later to enjoy the wonderful desserts. If there is such a thing as a complete dining experience, Andre’s is what would wrap everything together.

If you have an appreciation for well-​crafted sweets, this is THE place to visit satisfy your sweet tooth for cakes, tarts, cookies, crème de pots and more. Many bakeries, macaron shops and confectioneries have popped up in KC over the years but nothing compares to Andre’s. I’ve been coming here for years and it never fails to delight. The sweets are consistently satisfying and the attention to detail in the presentation makes each small treat just an delightful experience.

We had a raspberry pastry and a hazelnut roll along with a macchiato and americano. Not only was this the best coffee I’ve ever had, the pastries were delicious. To top it off, the gentlemen who helped us were very polite, professional, and attentive. It was a group effort and these guys definitely take pride in their work! As soon as people left an employee cleaned the table off so the area was always tidy. We will be back!

4 stars due to the prices being a bit crazy. But the stuff here is more than amazing, I would come everyday if I could.
I get the macaroons every time they are everything. I believe they change the flavored of the macaroons due to not having the salted caramel one I fell head over hills for. The lady stated she never seen it so I think they are also changing staff often as well. Anywho from there I start to try other things. I had a Mai tai truffle ball and it tasted just like the drink I had to check where I had just visited.
Once I sat down water was brought to me. I appreciated it but I was not there to eat the entrees they offer. Maybe they can divide the space to where people can enjoy the food or the dessert. If not I don’t mind it’s nice to have the service as an option.
This place is always clean, fresh and God like. I try to visit 2 – 3 times a month.

I’ve eaten at this location only a few times over the past year, but every time I do it’s a fantastic experience. The food is fresh and delightful, the atmosphere is relaxed yet productive, and the staff is always professional.
May I reccomend the Quiche Lorraine?

Fantastic. Had been several times to visit the front café/​chocolate shop, but recently visited for the prix fixe lunch. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Unique, comfy and seriously great value.

Went to Andres today with my mom and the food was very good. My mom had the bacon and onion quiche with a salad and vegetable soup. I had the croute au fromage, salad and vegetable soup. Both food items were quite tasty just small portion if you are with a person who has bigger appetite. Probably more of a chick place than a manly steak. Yet, the best part is the dessert. We had the chocolate dobosh torte which is fabulous! Also, if you are a coffee drinker this place is the bomb. Overall a very enjoyable and great place in Kansas City.

In 1955, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who came from Abilene, Kansas, served our country as the 34^th President; «Gunsmoke», which was set in Dodge City, Kansas, premiered on black & white television sets; and André & Elsbeth Bollier immigrated from Basel, Switzerland to Kansas City, and opened André’s Confiserie Suisse. Dwight D. lived until 1969 and «Gunsmoke» ran until 1975.
Fast forward to 2015. Now in its third generation, André’s has two locations, one at 5018 Main in KCMO & a newer second location which opened in Overland Park in 2002.
At André’s, there is a tea room which serves a changing daily lunch menu, there are savory pastries and quiche that you can enjoy at the establishment or take home in well designed red and white boxes. But after all these 60 sweet years, it is still André’s handmade treats that bring you in and bring you back in! Not all of their delectables are chocolate, but most are: candies, cookies, pastries and tortes.
My review of André’s will only address the Kansas City location, its service, and its sweetness.
*My family and I went to the Main Street location, and selected a plethora of sweet treats from
the multitude displayed, for a one-​week later pickup, in order to serve on Christmas Day. When I arrived at André’s to pickup my order (despite the insane numbers of customers in there) I was promptly helped and my order was ready for pickup.
*Upon returning home and examining the items
we had ordered, we found that the large Christmas tree decoration that had been ordered for the torte was left off.
*I called the store and explained the issue, and they fixed the problem with kindness and the utmost professionalism, they were even kind enough to through in a few macaroons for the mistake, which btw, are totally my favorite!
*Overall, the appearance and quality of the sweets are impeccable; however, I remove ½ of a star for messing up my order in the first place and another ½ star for a slight lack of moistness in the treats that we purchased; it is as if they made such an abundance of food for the holidays that possibly some of the items became just a tad dry.
Sixty years of sweetness, sixty years of butter, whipped cream and chocolate! Macaroons and lemon tarts that even President Dwight Eisenhower would be proud to have tasted, may he rest in peace. I truly hope André’s can continue another sixty years of quality growth in the confectionary and service industry!
I know that I will be back very soon!

Oh my gosh, it is rare that I am transported into another world when I go out to eat but this gem in Kansas City reminds me why I love to travel and eat. We had an amazing three course meal, from the bread to the carrot soup to the chicken pasta primavera to my dish Croûtons aux champignons; the food and ambiance was simply magical. The chocolate and deserts are in a class all their own as I toured the facility and the chocolates and deserts were being prepared right before our very eyes. This place is old world where art and culinary delights merge into one. I will always treasure my memories of Andrés and I encourage you to visit to sample some chocolate, have a glass of wine or eat lunch in a hospitable environment where everyone is committed to bringing the public chocolate and deserts the artistic way.

What a hidden gem! Who knew that they did something besides chocolate. We had one if the best meat and cheese plates that we’ve had in KC. While we were sitting there we couldn’t help but see some of the other fabulous other items that were waiting for us to try. All that and a delicious glass of wine. What time should we meet for lunch tomorrow!!!

Not expensive. Top quality desserts. Have a sit down café inside as well. Not over priced like CEC. Crown jewel in KC. Seriously EVERYTHING is good

5+ stars for sure for their luncheon food, there are limited choices but it’s all fantastic, as are their desserts/​pastries/​chocolates/​treats. Andrés is a KC legend, and very deservedly so.
But what I absolutely don’t love about André’s is how brusque a lot of their waitstaff are. I get that they’re busy and stressed out, but some of the servers in the dining area are just so grumpy and borderline rude– they seem like they’d rather be anywhere than here. It’s such a letdown to have amazing food served by such sour faces. This is not indicative of all the servers though– most of the younger women are really sweet and the older redheaded lady is a gem. The cashiers in the front are mostly all snooty. Very holier-​than-​thou and annoying. I once picked up a boxed marzipan animal, and one of the clerks snapped ‘don’t pick that up unless you’re buying it,’ like I was 3 years old or something. They also won’t give you a nice sturdy shopping bag unless you spend at least $ 30. They might take pity on your full arms, though, and throw a sad little plastic bag your way.
I go here at least once a month or so, so I’ve gotten to know some of the unwritten ‘rules’ of the place. For first-​timers, these things could be a bit off-​putting or odd, so please note–
*When you come inside, turn left and go to the long bench if you’re there for lunch. However, they only seat complete parties. Even if your friend is parking her car in André’s lot, unless she’s standing right next to you inside the building, you won’t get seated.
*There is a sign saying ‘No Cell Phone Zone,’ but they have scannable signs placed all over for you to use your cell phone on to see if you’ve won a prize. So do they want me to use my phone, or not? I haven’t figured out that weirdness yet.
*They always have Quiche Lorraine and Cheese Pie available, plus 2 other entrées. That’s it. There’s no menu. But everything is dynamite. You can’t go wrong. Check out

*They don’t do separate checks, but the cashiers at the front will separate the bill for you.
*They will let you substitute different side dishes with your entrées.
*When they bring the dessert tray around, ask them if there are any other options. There often are, they just can’t fit them all on the tray.
I love that they’ve expanded the seating area, and there’s a small outdoor patio now, too. And hallelujah that the nightmare that was their parking lot renovation is over. It’s so nice to be able to find a spot close by now.

Came here on my visit to kc and wow… the service was great and I haven’t even mentioned the desserts and wines.
Unfortunately I came in the evening and all the favorites were gone, but the older lady who was working answered all my questions politely and in full detail of what the popular desserts are and how they are made. She was extremely knowledgeable and kind. So was the younger man, but I’ll get to him later.
I ordered the cheesecake. Very simple. Not extremely rich but very creamy. It was not heavy and the crust was not overbearing but had enough presence to compliment the cheesecake. I liked it, but would love to try the other more popular items.
My friends and I went outside to eat our desserts and it had rained. The chairs had all been tucked away and we helped ourselves in getting seated and getting it dry. The younger man who got us utensils came out and wiped down the seats and table for us and brought us extra napkins. It was extremely kind of him to go beyond normal service.
I’ll definitely be back to try more items later this year.

Finest bakery in town. I love the cakes with the four different flavor a-​highly recommend to get this for Mother’s Day for you mom, she’ll love it. Pistachio, raspberry, coffee, mocha. So delicious.
Also their pretzel sandwiches with meat and butter and cheese are amazing! Reminded me of Eating in Europe

There is no place like Andre’s! Their dessert tortes are like no other. It’s the most delicious dessert I’ve ever had anywhere. The almond and marzipan taste present in almost all of the tortes is so delicious. My favorites are the Dobosh and the St. Moritz! But close seconds are the amandine and the lemon pie looking torte (forgot the name). Oh my goodness, I can name so many more because they are all just THAT good. The prepackaged handmade chocolates are just as mouthwatering as well.
I try chocolate wherever I travel to and nothing comes close to Andre’s in Kansas City!

We walk in and the employees say do u want something in a sarcastic tone. Then they were annoyed when we asked questions. I asked about a fruit yogurt dish and how much sugar and the guy with glasses was like ha everything has sugar in a rude tone like I was stupid. Very disappointed on the customer service today.

As a kid we used to buy assorted tortes for various holiday or family events, and as I remember, they are still delicious.
Had lunch today with my wife, but the main reason for the stop, was a gift. More on that later. But, upon walking through the door, the breads and aromas, we’re too much, and the hunger pains convinced us to stay for lunch. We haven’t visited the location for several years, as we live in the northland, but after today, I’m sure we’ll make the trip sooner than later.
For lunch my wife was served a nicely prepared spinach salad with bacon, shaved onions and walnuts. She actually ate it dry, watching the calories you know, but was happy with the mix of ingredients. I had a ham and gruyère on laugen. Gruyère is a cheese from Switzerland, and laugen, which is a German pretzel bread, both terms I had to look up, so I saved you the trouble and filled in the blanks. The sandwich was very good. I think andre’s has perfected their lunch plate sizes, as we were just hungry enough to try their sweets.
With a dairy allergy, my choices were limited, but I tried the green bar. It was a moist marzipan bar, topped with shaved almonds and powdered sugar. Let me say, it did the trick for me. My wife had a slice of pistachio torte to go, she wanted to enjoy the goodness over a couple sittings.
And finally, My mother, the reason for the initial visit, is a huge fan of chocolate, so if your looking for some of the best, Andre’s should be on your radar. She has raved on more than one occasion about just how good their chocolates are. I purchased an assorted box of Carmel’s covered in dark chocolate, and a ½ lb of assorted chocolates. That should put me in good standing with my dear mother for at least a month, so if your in the dog house, I’m not, this could be your ticket out.
Andre’s is a great little spot on main, and just as I remember as a kid, it’s very, very good.

You know a Swiss place is good when you walk in and you hear Switzerdeutsche spoken by some little old ladies sitting at a corner table, sipping fresh coffee and talking about how delicious their desserts are. That was my first experience when I walked into Andre’s. This restaurant is a bit off the beaten-​path in Kansas City, but is known to locals as the place to go for great meals and even better desserts!
Ambience:
Andre’s recently underwent a big renovation, and it looks pretty amazing. The front of the store is a coffee shop with a modern European flare to it. Clean lines, lots of white, and a huge picture window that lets guests look out on KC while enjoying their meal. Behind this is a huge group of display cases with tray upon tray of fresh baked goods. Freshly baked croissants, tartes, and all sorts of chocolatey and marzipany-​filled delights. And then, there’s the chocolate cases: their own hand-​made chocolate sections, reminiscent of those little sweet shops dotted all over Switzerland, are for sale. This chocolate in my opinion is the best in KC, and certainly is a rival to the Christopher Elbow craze that is here in town.
The back of the restaurant is the main seating area, which was thankfully left unchanged during renovation. When you walk in, you feel like you’re sauntering into a chalet in the Alps, with European standards and a gigantic cowbell to charm you. That and the common sight of KC elders speaking French and German in the restaurant complete that feeling of walking right into Switzerland.
Food:
Oh man, this food is off the chain!
They have an a-​la-​carte menu up front in the café, and a pre-​fixe menu in the restaurant proper section. This time, I went for the pre-​fixe, which, for about $ 12 or so, gave me an appetizer, entrée, dessert, and a coffee/​tea/​soft drink, as well as fresh bread. There were options of two different types of quiches, a Quiche Lorraine, and a vegetarian quiche, and then some hot and cold entrée items. This time, I tried one of their famous puffed-​pastry dishes: this was a beef stew packed into a flaky pastry shell. It came with a refreshing carrot salad and a potato purée that was packed full of garlic and buttery flavor. Delicious!
The icing on the cake (literally) was the desserts that came afterwards. The hostess brings a tray over of some fresh cakes made during the day. I had the marzipan and coffee roll cake, while my friend had the «Matterhorn», a mountain of chocolate ganache and butter cream. They were epic! It was hard to choose between these and the Napoleon and other chocolate/​hazelnut/​buttercream options we were presented with. So many tough choices!
For coffee, they have fresh French-​press and drip-​style Roasterie coffee, a huge plus!
Price:
The price overall is pretty reasonable for a meal here; desserts are a bit expensive, though. The chocolates can get a little pricey, as are the tea cookies, but are probably the tastiest treats ever put into my mouth, so I’d say they’re worth the price.
