Barbecue(BBQ) is spicy rub and sauce made from love and shared with kindness. It’s an All-American thing, especially in the South and Midwest. It don’t discriminate against actors neither. Me and my friend, Darrell, ate at Big T’s(after touring the baseball and jazz vicinity. Also, an art museum). Big T’s specializes in Bar-B-Q. A real meat and potato lovers kind of place. Satisfying portions. Praise goes up to tasty meats made so very heavenly. It is what it is… And we both appreciate the establishment. I hope Darrell could return to CA with me, however, our paths have changed. I know his Master of Fine Arts will land him a great career in Missouri. Also, I’m sure he’ll return to Big T’s and enjoy more fantastic BBQ. Peace, love and happiness with BBQ. Maybe, next time I visit, they’ll add some BBQ Tofu to the menu for me.

The BBQ sauce is decent! Got a bit of fire in it for being a mild, but I enjoy it. The burnt ends were tasty. Top 10 good BBQ places in KC.

First and last time I come here. Very disappointed. Had the burnt end sandwich, the meat had to much fat, chewy and cold.

I have heard many horror stories about the service at this place but until today, I’d never experienced it first hand. I go there in a lunch break today and there was a lady over the intercom. She’s rude and fast talking and I order my food. I tell her HOLDTHESAUCE. I hate their sauce so I know I specify to HOLDTHESAUCE each time I go. I pull around. I hand her my payment. She begins to hand me the food. I confirm at that moment that ma’am, did you hold the sauce. She gives me this puzzled look and I shrug and hand her the food back. She returns to the window moments later. She hands me my change and says«now you owe me a tip cuz you didn’t say hold the sauce» I wanted to call her a choice name and let her know she just didn’t pay attention but I didn’t want her to spit in my food for having a poor attitude. I give her a puzzled look and hold my hand out for my change and she HANDSMETHERECEIPTANDKEEPSMYDAMNSINGLES. Idk who is running this establishment but someone needs to fix it quick. This is beyond ridiculous. Being confrontational wouldn’t have solved this and I was very hungry and pressed for time. Their food is good. HOLDTHESAUCE but their attitudes are absolutely piss poor.

Great KCBBQ. We were passing through KC around lunch time and wanted some authentic local food. Big T’s did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I shared a plate of burnt ends plus an extra side and it was plenty of food food the two of us. Would go back!

An utter dump in an iffy neighborhood, it’s the real thing. The combo platter fed us both with plenty to spare. Fries were a little soggy, but ribs were topnotch. Service was pretty slow, though!

The pork came across great with good color and feel, however it did lack taste. The fries were the opposite, they had okay flavor but the look and crispiness was not that great. Over all they received an 80%

Service is ambivalent. Food is mediocre(yummy sauce though). The floors had just been waxed and I was skipping everywhere. No ambiance. Feels dirty. KC has far better BBQ.

Big T’s is classic K.C. bbq. Seriously one of the last, Diamonds in the rease. Everything is professionally smoked to perfection. Burnt ends, ribs, sliced beef or truly deep smoked chicken. Don’t forget the Beans!

This place is a hole in the wall, but it’s great food for the price. Burnt ends are our favorite, but they are out occasionally. You get a ridiculous amount of french fries for the price.

On the road from San Antonio and starving for good KCBBQ. Best rib tips and burnt ends. Hole in the wall but worth it.

The food is usually very good but the customer service is horrible! I live around the block but I prefer to go to the other location on blue parkway. On more than one occasion I have gone there around 1100am and they can’t open b/c their meat truck hasn’t arrived and they have no food. This happened last Saturday… I went there on a Friday night at 945pm, waited in line for 15 — 20 min only to be told that they were out of sausage! I knew that I had to pick up some the following morning to take to my family in Oklahoma. So I asked the worker at the window if it was safe to assume that it would not be there at 1100am the following morning. She insisted that someone would be there at 4 am to cook it. After telling me that they had none to cook. I called on my way to Oklahoma to place my order and the reply was: ’ we are waiting on our meat truck and we don’t know when it is going to get here’. Terrible way to run a business! It seems like every time I decide to give them another try, they mess up!

Called in order of beef on bread with fries and rib dinner with sides of baked beans and slaw. Gentleman took my order and said be ready in 10 minutes. Arrived at Big T bbq and no record of my order. Cashier offered to take order any I agree. I went to pay for the order and told their bankcard machine is inoperable. Cash only. At this point I through with Big T bbq and chose to go elsewhere before being told something else didn’t exist. I’ll be driving further for my BBQ. Probably to Gates or Jacks Stacks now. Big T bbq is good, but customer service isn’t their forte. Hopefully, the owner will take positive action since this my second negative comment in less than two weeks. Wake up! Your customers are leaving.

You haven’t had BBQ until you’ve eaten here. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall places with out of this world finger lickin’ good food. Upon recommendation of a worker at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, my hubs and I drove to this place. We ordered a full rack of ribs and fries to share. Let me pause to mentally savor the mouthwatering goodness that was our meal. The tender ribs were smothered with a tangy sauce and the fries were heavenly, especially when dipped in said BBQ sauce. I have to repeat that this is a hole-in-the-wall place so it looks like it’s deteriorating. Nevertheless, the taste and value of the food transcends the restaurant’s appearance. Being new to the KC area, this place is my favorite so far.

Ok. Drove 30 miles from Platte County on the advise of some great co-workers. Ended up on the doorstep of a place that looked sketchy. Ordered the two meat combo with beef and pork and the wife a turkey sandwich. Food came. Bam. Some of the best BBQ I have ever had. The meat was tender and melted in your mouth. Baked beans perfect. Everything. Very reasonable prices. This place proves you should never judge the food by its cover. A must visit.

So, on a magical road trip to New Orleans from Minneapolis my buddies and I found ourselves at Big T’s Bar-B-Q. Now we were recommended here by both Unilocal and local friends. In fact, this was the first place mentioned when we voiced our desire for some real BBQ being that it is astoundingly hard to find in the cold hard beef tip-less north. Now I decided to give this place the rating I gave it because I am giving it the benefit of the doubt. By the time we arrived it was only an hour to close and they were nearly out of everything they were notorious for. So we settled for some plates stacked with slightly less notorious meats. They were still good, but the lack of burned beef tips left me wanting and the ribs I had still were not stellar. So I grant thee a three star until next time Big T’s Bar-B-Q.

I haven’t had Big T’s since I worked at the now obsolete Benjamin Plaza Montgomery Ward. I finally got to pop in today and it was just as good as I remembered. The chopped beef sandwich and fries was the perfect size for me. Their sauce is the right consistency and spice. My daughter got the pork sandwich and devoured it all. Hubby got the sausage special and beans and loved it. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. They even gave him a Fire Fighter discount. Sweet! P. S. They have my much loved fountain red cream soda.

Long story short: Not a bad place for BBQ, but I’ve had better in town. Prices were reasonable. Long story long: January 1, 2012. Back in LA, I had a loose tradition of making my first meal of the new year, typically lunch, of eating something quite hearty. Usually I would go for something like The Hat or In N Out, but being in Kansas City, there’s nothing like The Hat(or at least that I know of yet), so I checked out on here where I could possibly go. I saw this place and figured I give it a try. I try not to come to this part of town so much because well, it’s kind of… shady. Good thing I was coming right in the middle of the day. Just like Paul’s Drive-in across the street(sort of), this place was converted from an old fast food chain restaurant. After checking out the menu, I decided to get a 2 meat combo, deciding on the ribs and the burnt ends. I also got a drink and a side of fries. It all set me back about $ 14 and some change. The staff seemed to be nice enough I took my food home and it smelled and looked good. The fries weren’t too bad. Same with the ribs. However, I was rather disappointed with the burnt ends. Their burnt ends were basically like shredded beef. There wasn’t much sauce on it and it was rather dry. Overall, it was a tolerable experience at best and I don’t think I would return.

We wanted barbecue from somewhere other than LC’s or OK’s.(OK’s is way too far away to just go out and come home, I have to be in the area first.). We decided on this Big T’s location. What I didn’t count on was the daily special on burnt ends. It’s Monday, and I think the order of burnt ends, one side and a drink cost $ 8.50. Special? Burnt ends? I got this. The servings were plentiful for 5 of us. I got 2 burnt ends specials, and one order of rib tips and fries. We didn’t care so much for the rib tips. The fries weren’t OK Joe’s, but they were mighty good. The burnt ends were phenomenal. There were plenty of them. They were highly seasoned, smoked to perfecting, even without sauce. When I added sauce it put the perk into them. The sauce isn’t sweet, so don’t expect that. But it’s definitely part of the Kansas City barbecue scene. The rib tips were just okay. I won’t order those again. We had baked beans, and I’ve still not found anyone’s baked beans better than JS. That’s me being a picky eater, and preferring a sweeter taste. The baked beans there tasted kind of like canned baked beans and were a bit runny for my taste. I noticed the daily specials on Big T’s menu, and on Thursday it involves chicken. The girl at the counter was pleasant, and the whole restaurant deserves a few more visits. The inside is small, clean and smells so good as all barbecue restaurants do. Next time I’ll try to take a picture of the menu. There is absolutely nowhere on line is this information available.
