Fresher Than Fresh Snow Cones

Funded by Kickstarter in 2010… failed venture in 2013.

I came here over the weekend with my kids and we definitely loved it!

I went in for a sno cone and left with an iced toddy! Delicious!

Went here a while back because of the great reviews. It certainly lived up to the hype. I got the pineapple and Serrano pepper snow cone. It was amazing! I must have told 20 people about it.
My wife also had the watermelon basil which was also good. However, mine was the clear winner.
Make sure to check the calendar before you head to the airstream!

Yes, I finally made it. Checked online and found out they would be at 17^th and Summit — the location with some of my favorite restaurants in town — and was happy to find out that in addition to being inexpensive and naturally made, I was able to order a «flight of freshness» — instead of $ 3 for single snow cone, I got a $ 4 selection of 5 different ones (they serve them in mini, almost bite-​size cups). If you come here really hot and in the mood for snow cones, this is a great way to decide which flavor you want.
Now, the flavors that the friendly, attractive staff scooped up for me…
blackberry lavender
lemon prickly pear (signature!)
expresso mexican cane sugar (topped with a bit of condensed milk to give it an iced coffee feel)
green tea pear
and
the piece de resistance… and a not-​on-​the-​usual menu flavor:
clemen-thyme…it tasted like a fresh tangerine iceball of goodness.

Awesome employees: Thank you for not judging me when I got my 3^rd snow cone this week. Pretty sad when I say, «I’m going to check out the Waldo farmers market» and the bf says «just say you want a snow cone.»

During my hot yoga class, today, for some reason, I couldn’t get my mind of off FTF. I kept visualizing it, and wondered what flavors Lindsey had today. So much for clearing the thoughts…
Today I had Blackberry/​lavendar. the flavor of the day was agave hibiscus, but it wasn’t available. I hit it straight up noon. It was 98 degrees outside, and there was already a little line.
My snowcone was very good, I could taste the hint of lavender and the blackberries. it was the best flavor I’ve had from FTF. Since she is only open on Sundays, and the proximity of my hot yoga class to the Westside North area is about 10 minutes, it will be a frequent Sunday spot for me, and I’m thrilled.

I found Fresher than Fresh at the Waldo Farmer’s Market this year. Once again I got the Flight of Freshness because I just can’t choose between all the great flavors! This year my favorite was the Pineapple and Serrano Pepper. The flavor was intense and delicous! I tried the Daredevil Special flavor… I forgot what it was, but I thought that the Pineapple Serrano was tastier and more daring.

I won’t labor in a diatribe about why I love FTFSC, but it seems that wherever I am, they are there too. I was at a farmer’s market, ahhhh, there you are FTF. I was at a fashion show, there you are again. I can’t seem to get away. To me it’s fate-​my summer must have a need to be filled with snow cones, hence the reason we keep running into each other and I keep shelling out funds.
VEGAN ALERT– for those of you who love ice cream in the summer, this is a great replacement, sans the dairy and calories!

Last year I helped my Mom move to the Kansas City area. To pass the time, I Unilocaled about places to visit and eat at. Well I happened to find Fresher Than Fresh Snow Cones.
Wow, I loved it. I was bummed that I could not do the samples, because they ran out of sample cups. However I asked which flavor was a best seller, the owner told me the blackberry lavender. It was my first time drinking lavender. .. it was good and refreshing.
I love how the place is whimsical, very cute. A small seclusion, away from the bustle of the city.
This place is a must see during Spring and Summer. Check them out!

It’s winter and I’m having Snow Cone withdrawals. Something simple, something sweet, and something that just makes you remember that life is good. Snow cones with grown-​up flavors to choose from.
And for the commitment-​phobic you can choose the flight of flavors and try several! I don’t follow Dave, Widespread, or Phish, I follow Snow Cone Lady.

I’ve never been a fan of snow cones. I’ve always thought of them to be flavorless cups of artificially colored, sweetened nibs of ice (red, white and blue which turns into a dull purple when melted). I can’t believe it’s taken me this long into the summer to get to FTF, but the important thing is, now I can say I’ve had it and loved it.
I tried the flight of flavors (how I love this option! I would have never been able to choose just one): Mexican espresso, pineapple serrano pepper, blueberry lavendar, lemon prickly pear, and mango ginger (the daredevil flavor).
I would have gleefully sucked down a regular, generous «cone» of any of these flavors but my favorites were the espresso (perfectly strong, with a hint of cinnamon) and pineapple serrano pepper (not spicy, but had a hint of the pepper to add a welcome kick to the pineapple). A very close runner up would be the mango ginger, but perhaps I forced myself not to love it too much as it’s not regularly available.
There’s a little area to sit where you’re shaded by grape vines. We got there early in the day, so there weren’t too many people yet. It’s an idyllic setting, surrounded by gardens.
So, now I know the reason that every time I’ve seen the adorable little Shasta trailer there’s a long line outside of it. Now, multiply, please so we can have you more often than Sundays, First Fridays and special events around town :)

Any place that’s piping Calexico from their stereo as you’re walking up to it is automatically cool in my book.
Getting to walk up to a fabulous mid-​century retro trailer nestled in the idyllic setting of an urban-​corner-​lot-​turned-​secret-​garden, and we’re in for an even more amazing experience. And we haven’t even gotten to the snow cones…
We were there; the kids, The Dame, her brother, his wife, on a Sunday afternoon break from the brutal heatwave that had smothered the city for weeks. Snow cones sounded great, by default, and being able to finally try the delicacy that is this frozen fantastication without the famous line-​around-​the-​block was a treat in itself.
I got a couple of generous portions for the kids (the ladies in the trailer kindly hooked them up with PLAIN Watermelon, for their pre-​sophisticated palettes), and The Dame got a Flight (!) of the more adventurous snow cone flavors in smaller cup-​lets. Talk about something for everyone! I JUST DID!
And man, did those flavors deliver. This ain’t now «Snoopy Sno-​cone» set-​up, believe me. You’ve never tasted such… well, FRESH and inventive flavor combinations poured over ice! Gourmet sweetness without that nasty, sickly /​sticky popsicle grossness that would be the norm of a lesser outfit.
These folks know that what they are doing is making accessible art for the mouth, delivered with friendly service (and great background music!). What better way to enjoy the sunshine and sharing with folks who are close to you than by exploring more of the amazing (and uniquely delivered!) edible offerings of this great city? I’m certainly glad we have Fresher Than Fresh here in town to do just that!

Please add me to the addicted lot of people. It’s not often I actually giggle and do a little dance when I see something. But, I think I did both on Saturday when I saw the little trailer parked outside the River Market Antique Mall. It was a sign that I HAD TO have a snow cone. This time I had an espresso and Mexican cane sugar. It was delicious! Then we went to the regular spot on Sunday for another round. The coconut curry was offered again as a Daredevil option. Yummy!
I am not ashamed to say I think about these all week and can’t wait to see what the new Daredevil flavor is.

Anything less than five stars is not an option.
The place is like a magical little elfen enclave, tucked away amidst the idyllic Westside community garden. Every single element is carefully considered, and beautifully consistent. The vintage airstream trailer? Adorable. The handwritten chalkboard menu? Charming. The appropriately sprite-​like staff? Delightful. The «Oh-​my-​gosh-​look-​what-​I-​Found» hiddenness of it all? Joy-​inducing. The refreshingly unique flavor combos? Oh-​so-​delicious. The price-​point? Fairer than fair.
Lindsay Laricks, thank you for bringing this vision to life, and showing us all just how delightful a little snow cone can be.

Hi, my name is Susan and I’m a Fresher Than Fresh addict. Oh wait, this is not the FTF addiction group? Well, maybe I should talk about my addiction since it’s good to talk about these things.
My saving grace is that they’re only around once a week. But now that the owner quit her job and is focusing on FTF full time, the little airstream is around more often, with hopes to get them into City Market on Saturdays. They also do random events on other days. Still, you have to know in advance.
It is a guarantee, though, that they will be in the little romantical park off 17^th St and Summit over on the West Side on Sundays. Wander though the grape vine covered trellis till you see the aqua and white airstream. You are just seconds away from pure bliss. If you’ve never had FTF, you’re probably thinking what’s the big deal about snowcones. How wrong you are! It is not your typical street cone. There are no artificial flavors or colors.
Belly up and order whatever your heart desires. If your heart desires everything, they have just the option for you — a mini-​mix where you can choose five different flavors. There’s six standard flavors including watermelon basil, chocolate espresso, prickle pear, pineapple serano, blackberry lavender and lime mint. There is also the daredevil choice, a different surprise flavor every week. I think this is what keeps me coming back week after week.
Ok, now that I’ve come clean about my addiction, I’m off to… uhhhh… well… *breaking down*… ok, I admit it. I’m off to get some more snowcones from FTF.

Magical (Or Romantical, as Susan N. says) is what this place is.
On a hot day after riding in cars with… Susan, we headed over to this enchanted location for some fresher than fresh icy treats.
You walk through a small rambling garden, under an arbor covered in grape vines and lined with tree stumps and benches, to a grassy space where a small… winnebago? perches brightly, ready to offer some really sweet treats.
It’s shaved ice, but the syrup that goes on top is, like they say, fresher than fresh. The basil in the watermelon basil comes from the garden, as does the mint in their lime mint (my favorite). I tried the sampler platter because I was greedy… and I didn’t know when I’d be able to come back.
The blackberry lavender was interesting (I’d like that syrup in a cocktail!), and my second favorite shaved ice flavor was the green tea pear.
Generous portions, reasonable prices and a beautiful setting makes this a welcome respite on a hot day. I’m happy my friend is awesome and brought me here, because Fresher than Fresh is as awesome as she is.

I didn’t know what I was looking for when I went in search of this trailer… it looked like it was in a park from the photos. The address is just 17^th and Summit. Sure enough, directly across FUD is this little trailer in a flowery/​weeded area. They even a have a little garden growing there. Cute. Shaded area with wood stumps to sit on, too!
Husband got Lemon Prickly Pear and he enjoyed it ($ 3). I got the Flight of Freshness ($ 4). The large plastic container was made from corn. I don’t remember all the flavors I got… I just kept saying stuff off her list until she called time. The size of each sample is the size of the ketchup cups you get at McDonald’s. Pretty small. It was enough to let me pick which one I liked best though: Watermelon Basil. Mmm! The Pineapple Pepper was not my favorite but it was fun to try. I thought I would like the Blackberry Lavender the best and it was good but watermelon stole the show. I think there was a strawberry something or another… it was pretty good too.
There were two flavors listed as «daredevil» and I know I got those… the pineapple pepper might have been one.
Anyway…everyone that was there was happy and smiling and it was a perfect day for a cool treat. Such unique and creative flavors. I want to try them all!
I do agree with Molly — Shaved Ice would be a great improvement. It’s so much smoother. Even so, the flavor is what it’s about!

I first came across this on First Fridays last year. I really enjoyed this. It’s a bit higher priced than some of the artificial junk, but you’re paying for originality and fresh earthy ingredients that will make your heart melt, while cooling you off on a summer day.
This woman serves these crazy fresh flavors as she travels along in her «trailer.» It sounds organic and herbal. Basil this… lemon thyme that… Real ingredients and not those fake chemicals. I don’t think you’ll find high fructose corn syrup or yellow #5 here.

OK, did they write an article about it in the Star or something? We drove by Saturday around 2 and they were hella busy. It was all families and kids.
I would have had a heat stroke in that line. Get there early!
