Terrible service. Not what I expected from reading the other reviews which saddens me. We got an app and a round of drinks and our server never stopped back. Got our tab from the bartender and cashed out. Walked down the street and had a great burger at The Brick. I’d be surprised if this place makes it.

Stopped here before heading to the Sprint Center for a basketball game. Low key, huge beer and bourbon selection, and the bartender was very nice and helpful. The old fashioned I ordered looked like a work of art. Sort of bummed they didn’t have the stuff to make a mint julep, but other than that this place was great!

This place was amazing. It was pretty quiet and quaint until we got a little bit later into the evening. It feels like a Hometown bar with a little bit of a hipster twinge. Phenomenal craft beer selection… with a couple of of varieties of sour/wild ales. Delicious food and not too bad of prices. Perfect place for a Friday date!

Great French fries… And I heard incredible burgers, but I went after dinner and wasn’t hungry. One of the only bars in town with Pappy Van Winkle(not that I can afford it… But that’s saying something) Bartenders are friendly, I like the overall vibe. The drinks are strong and really good. Go in and enjoy one!

So, I haven’t even gotten a beer yet, and I’m ready to leave. Two words: ACOUSTICALTREATMENT SERIOUSLY Relative to the cost of professionally designed and installed absorptive panels, the ROI would be positive.

My fave bar in KCMO nicely located outside the Power & Light. Great selection of craft beers on tap, wines, whiskies, and cocktails. One of the few places I know of that lists the most recent tap cleaning date on their beer board. Laid-back but attentive service, mostly quiet, loyal clientele, and an intimate feel. Owner and chef Celina is often around for advice, questions, or conversation. The small menu has some great options inc. a divine baked rigatoni. I am here almost daily when I am in town.

I like the re-purposed building that houses the Belfry. The rough-hewn bar and bottle light installation over the bar make a hip backdrop for enjoying the great tap selection. Everything on tap is immensely drinkable, with really quality selections that make it difficult to select just one. We went on a First Friday, and it wasn’t crazy around 8pm but soon filled up. Thankfully we were able to grab one of just a handful of tables, and we had about 10 minutes to peruse the beer menu until our waiter came over. He was able to provide some great info about some of the beers, and my hubby and I both selected sours. I went with the Jolly Pumpkin Baudelaire and hubby went with the Julian NBB blend, only available at the Belfry. Really cool that they do their own blend and that it turned out to be a really well balanced sour — bonus! All pours are available in pony or full pours, making it really nice to be able to sample multiple beers. A sign at the bar also mentioned happy hour — we’ll have come back some afternoon to try that out, because, while we didn’t get any food this time, the table beside us did, and everything looked really good.

Intimate bar run by a great chef(who we saw & talked to last night, great lady & dedicated). Connected to the bar is her restaurant Collection so feel free to grab some tasty food. The homemade pickles are different but nice. Great selection of taps. I’m a sucker for sours & I don’t expect to be let down here. Enjoyed the chef’s private sour blend using New Belgium’s sour base Oscar, creating«Love #3». Could get a bit loud if busy but worth it for an extensive selection of beer, cocktails & spirits. Friendly environment & has private parking lot behind the building if the street parking is full. Try it, Collection & Julian in Brookside.

I can’t think of anything The Belfry could improve on. Does The Belfry have Whiskey? Dozens, Whisky? Dozens, Other spirits? Dozens, Beer? Dozens. Great menu items that are way, way beyond bar food? Yep, dozens. Service is always attentive and kind, you get the feeling they really like having you there. The Belfry is the kind of place to go frequently and have a favorite seat. It’s the kind of place that you could eventually go to the same day of the week for a couple weeks and eventually they’d just have your standard fare ready for you when you got there. Well done, The Belfry, well done.

Happened across The Belfry this past weekend while in town for a wedding. It was a simple yet charming place(loved the bottle chandelier), with an absolute KILLER beer and whiskey list. Not a far walk from the loud and boisterous Power & Light District. The bartender knew his stuff. He was able to talk intelligently about the extensive whiskey list, and recommended great things for my friends and I. My friend asked about an «affordable» whiskey pour, he suggested the Willett Pot Still Reserve; good Lord it was mighty tasty. The Belfry has a variety of Pappy Van Winkle whiskey available, even the 23yr. That’s bound to impress someone ;) Last thoughts: beer prices are a bit steep($ 8ish), can’t vouch for the food as we didn’t have any, and the cool«growler» they sell really is a «howler». But all in all this is definitely a sweet place.

Great selection of beer and great small plates but I didn’t really find anything too interesting with their bigger plates. The design is great and more minimal but the atmosphere was really lacking personality. There really wasn’t anyone in there when a group of us went so the small space felt more like a quiet room, which was odd. I can think of better places to eat and drink in the same area for a better atmosphere.

Classy hole in the wall with a secret spot vibe. Enter off 16th street and it feels like walking into a speakeasy. Bearded bartenders in newsboy caps crafted cocktails while I enjoyed an Abraxas. Incredible selection of bourbon with a solid rye, irish and single malts. Lots of bottled beer and interesting taps. Right up there with the beer and whiskey joints that are taking over KC(in the best way!).

I have no complaints. The Belfry is one of my very favorite bars to hit up in my neighborhood(and all of Kansas City, let’s be honest). Owned by Iron Chef contestant and James Beard Award-winner Celina Tio, The Belfry always has terrific, and often unusual, beers on tap. I also like that they give you the choice(in most instances) of a smaller pour. Their whiskey selection is also top-notch. The food is delicious(as it should be). The nachos & mac ‘n’ cheese hit the spot every time. I find The Belfry to be no-frills, yet comfortable and sleek. My preference is to sit at the bar. The bartenders/servers are very warm and voluble — they also know their stuff when it comes to beer or whiskey. I visit The Belfry regularly and haven’t once been disappointed.

Top 5 bars in KC, hands down. First off, I’m blown away by the number of people who haven’t been to the Belfry — I’m always taking someone new and they always leave saying the same thing«How did I not know about this place!?» If you haven’t been — GO. Thanks to the Belfry, this non beer drinking girl, is no longer such. Their bartenders are amazingly helpful and are more than willing to let you sample different varieties before choosing — When you do that, you get my business for life. Their craft cocktails are equally as good as their beer selection and make for a perfect pick-me-up on a sunny afternoon. It’s never overly crowded, so I often will bring my laptop and work while enjoying a beverage or two. This is a place where you will find plenty of people drinking, eating or working solo — I love that! —– Urban and hip, but friendly and welcoming.

I admit, you have to be a certain type of person to appreciate the Belfry — a very certain type of person who savors a good craft beer, appreciates a minimalistic atmosphere, and probably wears their pants a little too tight. Because I happen to fit into this very specific category, I loved it. Thanks to the big painted arrows advertising COFFEE and BEER, the side entrance off of Grand isn’t hard to fine. When you walk in the bar is to the left(I think they serve breakfast/brunch on the right). The interior is about as minimalistic as you can get — it almost feels like there aren’t enough wooden tables to fill the space, but I found it a welcome change from most crowded/sticky/sweaty bars. You and your skinny jeans can drink in peace! The draft beer selection is not huge(it’s no Flying Saucer), but it’s solidly filled with snobby beers — I could hardly decide between the saisons, belgians, and IPAs. What’s even better is they offer 6 oz pours and their prices are very reasonable, especially compared to other places in the Crossroads(and let’s not even talk about P&L). One note: I would NOT come here for the cocktails, because even though they offer a small selection most are on the«yummy» sweet side. HH is every day, which I am a fan of. From 4−6pm they offer a few $ 5 beers, cocktails, and bar eats. The food was good across the board, maybe not spectacular. Like the rest of the restaurant there are no frills here; the mac ‘n cheese is just perfectly al dente macaroni in a cheese sauce, the fries are crispy cubes of potato served with a simple aioli. The hoppy pickles, however, are exceptional — crisp with a really interesting and notable hop flavor. Me and my group of 7 girls looked a tad out of place here, but our server put up with us gracefully. Which brings me to my final reason for loving this place — it may be hipster-riffic, but only in the best ways… there is none of that snooty alternative attitude here. I know I’ll be back in the future — whether I’m in my heels or my converses :).

We headed to the Belfry for a drink and bite. We had read about the opening of the Belfry and The Collection, both owned by chef Celine Tio. We had decided before arriving to just do the bar and keep things casual. On a Friday evening at 8:30 there was not a sole in The Collection; not a good sign for that part of the venue. The Collection and the Belfry share the same location, but are two very distinct and separate venues. The Belfry had a small crowd that was a mix of young and not so young, we fit right in! I was surprised at the size of the place(a bar and a few high top tables), but I really liked the feel of the space. Straight forward décor, nothing fancy just the current trend of natural wood and metal. We took a seat at the bar and enjoyed a great conversation with the bartender learning about the plans for the Belfry to add a brewery in the basement! They had a great beer selection and the bartender was nice enough to offer a wine that was on the menu at The Collection for me to enjoy(the wine list at the Belfry was pretty limited). We both ordered burgers and split a salad(bar menu is simple, but very enticing). Everything was excellent — the food, the service and the atmosphere. I hope this place makes it, it’s just what the area needs.

FIVE! After more than a few weeks and several more visits, I must give my favorite beer spot five solid stars. When we walk in, we are greeted by name. The knowledge of the bartenders is primo; their descriptions and recommendations are always spot-on. I love trying pretty much everything they have ever had on tap, as well as everything I have had from their incredible bottle selection. When we want to go out with our beer snob friends, THIS is where we go! They have all loved it, too. I have yet to try any of the food, but who goes to a beer place for food? Not me! Go here, beer lovers.

Well, the cat was away and the mice were at play while we were there. The bartenders were probably taking attitude liberties when I was there, but I’m game for that while others may not be. :-) So I engaged in some true beer snobbery discussions. The beer selection was excellent. The space was excellent. The food was excellent. Just the bar itself is cool. Different and smaller, but right up there with the bar at Pierpont’s.

While I couldn’t quite figure out what to make of The Belfry on my first visit, after a few trips in I’ll go ahead and now say with confidence that I’m a fan. This cozy, no-pretense watering hole specializes in craft beer and whiskeys(and in the mornings it seems Third Wave coffee), which makes me suspect that owner Celina Tio built it especially for me. Those are my three favorite liquids, ya’ll! With entrances off both Grand(through her restaurant, Collection) or 16th street, The Belfry is incredibly low-key and is going to live and die by its regulars. While craft beer isn’t exactly a new deal — particularly in this part of town — I think people will appreciate that The Belfry is considerably more low-key than any nearby options to get your beer-snob on. Plus, I just like the idea of a well-trained chef selecting the beer list. It gives me great faith that whatever I end up ordering is going to be an excellent representation of the style. There’s a beer club of which I don’t know many details(I’m predisposed from past employment to not get into beer clubs) that I nevertheless suspect will be the main draw. I do know you get your own glass stored behind the bar and that you get first dibs to beer dinners and such. With connections like Tio’s, I suspect their beer dinner events will be pretty much fantastic. One thing that gives me pause is how the beer club seems to have annual dues, rather than a one-time entrance fee. I’ve never ever ever heard of something like that, and I question it as a model. The décor is pretty minimal, to a point where I don’t know if more is coming or not. I HOPE there is. I could go through a list of what I’d like to see, but I’m not an interior designer. I really enjoy their lighting above the bar, and the wooden cubbies that make up the back-bar. I’d only hope for some art on the walls, eventually. I’m really happy to see more development on the East side of the Crossroads. I’ve been saying for ages that this area was in desperate need of a place to get a proper cup of coffee. Tio seems to have been channeling my thoughts, as in the morning hours, this place will serve coffee roasted by multiple local operations! I can’t wait to check it out as a place to work! Grand Street deserves to be a destination, but it’s places like this that’ll make it more of a neighborhood.
