Discovery Schoolhouse

From our experience with our son, the experience of being first time parents trusting a daycare for his care was HORRIBLE with Discovery Schoolhouse. Most of the staff and the director present no genuine compassion for the babies they care for. From 6 weeks to 8 months of many Dr visits; Catching a virus, thrush, diaper rash, infected penis from not being cleaned properly, throwing up from being fed too quickly and on his last day we went to to the Dr to confirm he had staph infection from not caring for his cuts (I would pick him up bleeding and ask why, no idea why and no attempt to care for it resulting in staph). Poor communication to parents on replenishing baby items, when you ask why, the staff has a huge attitude with you. If you do choose this daycare, I highly recommend keeping every single daily sheet. They will not take any accountability unless you show proof with your daily sheets. Also, do not trust when they offer a week free for your troubles or a free week from an Ad. Make a copy or get it in writing, if not, they will not honor it. They have promised changes during the two weeks (you must place a 2 week notice, no exceptions) and in that time the attitude stayed and he contracted staph infection. Also, the flooring is not practical for learning how to crawl, our son’s foot was terribly damaged. They could also use more toys/​activities for young infants, he would cry a lot. Our son is so much happier at his new daycare and his foot has healed beautifully with care. Hope they make the needed changes for a better experience.

DS was recommended to us by some friends when we moved here from Atlanta. The prices are reasonable compared to other local daycares/​preschools. My 4 year old daughter has attended here for a few months. She had never been in any sort of day care before and was very scared about starting. They were very understanding when she had a melt down in the hall way on our initial tour. They were very patient with her those first few weeks. She now loves going to school. We recently went on vacation to the beach and when we got home she told me she didn’t want to leave again because she missed her friends and teachers. She is learning so much! Her teacher Miss Kia speaks English, Spanish, and sign language, and they also have a mandarin teacher who comes in. I love getting to check on her during the day through their web cam. Her grandparents also love getting to watch her too. They get to spend time outside on the playground, and Wednesdays during the summer is splash day where they get to play in the little splash park. My daughter comes home tired, but happy!

Agree with the majority of the reviews provided. The only pluses of this facility is that its fairly new and clean. We were only using it as a daycare through the summer as the elementary school had not yet opened. Staff was indifferent. No warm welcomes as you arrived. Did not observe any real organized activities to keep the kids engaged through the day. Staff seemed young and inexperienced. At the point our daughter had mentioned she was ‘rough’ handled by a staff member we reported it to the facility manager and promptly removed our kids. If its growing ‘pains’ the facility needs to get it together if they want to operate in that area of Cinco Ranch.

I posted an initial review regarding DS back in ⁵⁄₂₀₁₂ but felt it was important to provide an update given we elected to move our son to a new school this year. In all sincerity, we had nothing but glowing reviews for DS until we began noticing staff turnover later in the school year, followed by management changes, all which seemed to be changing the healthy vibe that once existed. My gut feeling is that DS is going through some growing pains right now and they just haven’t been able to attract and retain quality staff in recent months, which is unfortunate because I do believe good intentions exist. On a positive note, the facility is very nice and there are still some hidden gems continuing their work at the school.
